Keim's podcast from this morning.

A.  He covered Dan's full tenure.  He sensed Dan might not be a good owner, fairly early on. Dan inserted himself in decisions.  he didn't know how to build a good team in the FO, etc.

B.  He expects Harris is to be good.  He hires the best people and stays out of their way.  He has a good reputation.

He then had an NBA reporter who covered Harris.  That reporter used to be a WP reporter so he knows Dan's era well.

A. Unlike Dan, Harris doesn't interfere with his decision makers.  He runs a normal operation -- little drama or worries about off field issues

B. He relentlessly tries to hire the top people he can find for the FO.   He mentioned he kept shooting for the Golden State FO guy, but I gather he didn't get him, went after Morey multiple times until he got him

C.  He's willing to invest top dollar in everything (including for the FO) to win and from a fan standpoint that's all you can ask for.

D.  he doesn't like the limelight, doesn't talk much to the media

E.  He has a stadium specialist who he has used for his other teams and that dude is smart.  He expects that person to be used here.  Knowing Harris he thinks he shoots for a stadium in the City.

Sidebar on Howard Eskin who hates this team and hates Harris.    The NBA reporter said, Harris is a big sports fan.  I've heard the same said from others.  Eskin claimed with no supporting evidence that Harris doesn't care about sports and knows anything about it.  Eskin comes off like a dude who is just flailing. Hitting him for owning multiple teams.  Calling him a carpetbagger. Hitting him for the downtown location he's targeting for 76er arena because of traffic issues.   it wouldn't surprise me if he blamed him for the heat wave inflicting the NE.  But in short, I don't take Eskin seriously.  The NBA reporter refuting the idea that Eskin isn't into sports was the kicker for me.

Random thought-- I wonder if the $250M "loan" negotiated into the sale is a backstop for any remaining legal loose ends. I.e.: The new ownership owes Danny $5.8B at closing and then $250M in a year or two-- I imagine that if the team has to pay out any sort of remaining legal settlements, it comes out of the $250M.

I can imagine there is already a nudge, nudge, wink, wink between Goodell and Harris over any fines that may be coming Washington's way and like you said is already worked out.

Let’s keep in mind he has debt to pay off so it won’t ALL be profit. It helps me.

He bought out Fred Smith, Dwight Schar and Rothman for around $875 million for their 40% stake 2 years ago. He got an NFL waiver to finance $450 million of that against the team. That was when interest rates were nearly nothing.

That $875 million which he leveraged with cheap debt just sold for $2.4 billion 27 months later. He literally made an extra $1.5 billion for being toxic. Completely rewarded for his behavior and business practices.

He will leave the biggest part of his life, wherein he got to live the dream and own his boyhood team, with hundreds of thousands of people cheering his departure.

He may have the money, but when your funeral is a parade, you lose.

Probably.

Dan though finally did talk to MJW so I wonder if that was one of the conditions.

Personally, I'm not ready to move on.

I think its extremely important this report sees the light of day.

More important than 🏈

Beat me to it. Thank you. Football fans are basically the least effected victims in this whole thing, which given our level of investment obviously says a lot. But at the end of the day it’s way bigger than football fans being unhappy someone ruined a sports team.

That said, it's also the reason he can't afford to keep the team. No new stadium, no new sources of revenue to even pay back that loan... unless he sells the team.

I question if Snyder was really a Redskins fan or if he just wanted to impress his dad by buying the team. I believe his dad was a Redskins fan.

Is there any proof that Dan is or was besides him telling stories of his dad getting up early and cooking?

I've heard that before too, that Snyder himself was too busy trying to set up scam businesses as a teenager to be a sports fan, and that it was his dad that was a big fan.

After watching a 30 for 30 they did on Dan Snyder years ago, that's what I believe. For those that are interested, it's probably still on YouTube.

It's tough for me to believe he was deep down that into sports and this team.  Dan was more about Dan and his ego.

Heck if I had the money to buy this team, no way I'd insert myself on decision making, not even a little on anything.  Like others here, I play amatuer scout on the draft thread, etc.  but that's me having fun and opining on stuff but its nothing real.

If you want to truly win, you got to hire top professionals and get out of their way.  something that Dan was never willing to do.

I missed that news. When did he talk to MJW?

It was posted in a WP article about 4 days or so ago that I posted here.  Sheehan talked about it recently on either a podcast or a radio show, forgetting which.  The article didn't say when it happened.
