What the **** is Grok? 🤣

Originally, before AI, Grok was….

Quote

Grok /ˈɡrɒk/ is a neologism coined by American writer Robert A. Heinlein for his 1961 science fiction novel Stranger in a Strange Land. While the Oxford English Dictionary summarizes the meaning of grok as "to understand intuitively or by empathy, to establish rapport with" and "to empathize or communicate sympathetically (with); also, to experience enjoyment",[1]

Watch A Cybertruck Fail To Negotiate Minor, Snowy Incline, Get Recovered By Ford Super Duty

There’s definitely a feeling of schadenfreude when we see social media posts of Tesla Cybertrucks trying to do truck things and just completely ****ting the bed. In what likely was an attempted PR stunt on Monday, some genius took a pre-production Cybertruck “Release Candidate” into Southern California’s Stanislaus National Forest, down the Corral Hollow Trail, and took it well off the trail to gather a downed Christmas tree. Unfortunately for the Tesla employee involved, the truck couldn’t make it back up the hill to the trail, and needed to be rescued by a passing Ford F-series. Oof.

There are a number of factors at play here, which aren’t necessarily the fault of the Cybertruck. First of all, the factory-equipped Goodyear tire is an all-terrain tire, which doesn’t necessarily deal with snow all that well. Secondly, the truck is attempting to navigate a snowy hill that is certainly off piste. According to the Instagram post the truck’s “lockers” weren’t usable because of a software issue. And there may be a bit of user error in here as well, because the drivers didn’t air their tires down for more traction, though I personally question that tactic in deep snow.

The post goes on to claim that there aren’t any pickup points or recovery points on the front of the Cybertruck, which seems like a total oversight on Tesla’s part, if true. In the video below, it looks like the tow straps might be using suspension points as recovery hookups, which is, uh, not great.

Tesla claims California false-advertising law violates First Amendment

Quote

Tesla is trying to use a free speech argument to defeat a complaint that it falsely advertised "Autopilot" as an autonomous vehicle system. In response to the California Department of Motor Vehicles allegation about Autopilot, Tesla claims the state laws cited by the DMV violate the US Constitution's First Amendment.

The DMV's July 2022 complaint alleges that Tesla falsely advertises its Autopilot-enabled cars as operating autonomously and seeks a suspension or revocation of Tesla's manufacturer license.

Tesla's response, which was filed last week and published yesterday in a story by The Register, says that several California statutes and regulations cited by the DMV "are unconstitutional under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and Article I, Section 2, of the California Constitution, as they impermissibly restrict Tesla's truthful and nonmisleading speech about its vehicles and their features."

One of the state laws that Tesla complains about is Cal. Veh. Code § 24011.5, which says that companies "shall not name any partial driving automation feature, or describe any partial driving automation feature in marketing materials, using language that implies or would otherwise lead a reasonable person to believe, that the feature allows the vehicle to function as an autonomous vehicle."

:ols:  You're infringing on our god given right to lie our asses off!

Elon’s X In Hot Water As EU Launches Investigation Into ‘Worst Online Platform’

The European Union (EU) has launched a formal investigation into Elon Musk’s online platform, X, over potential breaches of stringent social media regulations. This marks a pivotal moment as it is the first inquiry of its kind since the implementation of rules designed to tackle the toxicity of online content.

European Commissioner Thierry Breton announced the commencement of formal infringement proceedings against @X under the recently enacted Digital Services Act. The investigation will delve into X’s systems and policies, focusing on suspected infringements without precluding any potential outcomes.

Johannes Bahrke, spokesperson for the European Commission, revealed in a press briefing in Brussels, “The Commission will now scrutinize X’s systems and policies related to certain suspected infringements. It does not prejudge the outcome of the investigation.”

The probe will specifically examine whether X, previously known as Twitter, took sufficient measures to curb the spread of illegal content and assess the effectiveness of its strategies against “information manipulation,” particularly through its Community Notes feature.

Additionally, the EU will investigate X’s transparency with researchers and explore suspicions surrounding the design of its user interface, including the blue check subscription service, with concerns of a potential “deceptive design.”
