Destino
41 minutes ago, China said: The problem is they're not dying on this hill. People are supporting them. If they were actually dying or killing themselves politically with any of the stupid **** they are doing then it'd be OK, because at least they would be seeing repercussions. Unfortunately they're not. I disagree, I think this hurts them substantially. They win when the focus is on deranged framing of parents not getting a say on education that some democrats foolishly accepted. I suspect they win more than we’d all care to admit when the focus is on new concepts of gender being taught in classroom to small children too. That nut running “LibsofTikTok” rocketed from nobody to the national stage mostly by just reposting videos of such things. When they start teaching racist nonsense though, they get support from their base, but they also remind everyone why republicans are traditionally not trusted when it comes to education. EmirOfShmo
Unskilled Florida Man Regrets Missing Out on Being Enslaved TALLAHASSEE (The Borowitz Report)—An unskilled Florida man said that he deeply regrets having missed out on the opportunity to be a slave. The man said that his “lack of access to enslavement” had made his acquisition of essential skills “impossible.” “Every day when I mess something up at work, I wonder to myself, would I be doing a better job if I’d been a slave?” he said. “There’s no question that it would have been a game-changer for me.” He argued that being barred from forced servitude was a form of “white underprivilege,” and that Caucasians who suffer from a resulting skills deficit deserve reparations. “Something must be done to compensate people like me who were unfairly denied the chance to be slaves,” he said. “When I think about the personal benefits I was prevented from obtaining, it makes me furious.” https://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/unskilled-florida-man-regrets-missing-out-on-being-enslaved

China
Whitmer signs bills impacting Michigan teachers and potentially bringing more to the state Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a series of bills Wednesday that expand bargaining power for teachers' unions, make it easier for out-of-state teachers and counselors to move to Michigan and eliminate a restriction on setting teacher pay that only applies to Detroit educators. "This legislation will build on our efforts to recruit and retain the talented educators that provide Michigan students with a phenomenal education," Whitmer said in a statement. The bills aren't the only changes to education policy the governor has made recently. Earlier this month, she overhauled the state's education department, announcing the creation of a new one that will consolidate early childhood and higher education programs currently spread across multiple state agencies. Last week, she signed an education budget that will provide free breakfast and lunch to all PreK-12 public school students and expand eligibility to enroll in Michigan's state-funded preschool program. China
HISD to eliminate librarians and convert libraries into disciplinary centers at NES schools tudents at dozens of Houston ISD schools will return in a few weeks without librarians and to former libraries that have been converted into disciplinary spaces. New Superintendent Mike Miles announced earlier this summer that librarian and media specialist positions would be eliminated at the 28 original schools being overhauled under his reform program, New Education System (NES). Both the librarian and media specialist positions are similar, but librarians typically have an advanced degree in library science. HISD said the 57 additional schools that opted into NES will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. "We understand the significance of certain programs associated with libraries and will strive to maintain those valuable offerings," the statement said. The move is almost a complete 180 from Miles' predecessor, Millard House II, who aimed to put a librarian at every school under his former five-year plan. GoCommiesGo
Quote Former library spaces at some schools will be converted into rooms where students who misbehave will be relocated to watch lessons virtually, work alone, or in groups with differentiated lessons. Books will remain on shelves and students will still be able to borrow books on a honor code system. That is wild, are they hiring additional teachers to help make sure these kids stay on track and on topic? This is just crazy, even by Texas standards. Fan since a Fetus
I haven’t been reading the news lately, but I have heard people talking about the “benefits” of being a slave. I thought it was just podcasts and Newsmax type places saying it was great. I literally had no idea that Florida is teaching this to America’s children. I just looked it up. this is beyond disgusting. What the ****ing hell is wrong with these people?

China
The lessons Florida public school students will learn from PragerU Kids A cartoon Booker T. Washington distorting the history of the Civil War. A narrator explaining that embracing climate denialism is akin to participating in the Warsaw Uprising. An instructional video telling girls that conforming to gender stereotypes is a great way to embrace their femininity. A dramatization of the supposedly civilizing, benevolent era of British colonial rule in India. These are just some of the episodes of PragerU Kids — an offshoot of right-wing propaganda organization PragerU — that Florida has just approved for use in its public school classrooms, reflecting and potentially accelerating the state’s hard conservative turn. “The state of Florida just announced that we are now becoming an official vendor,” said PragerU CEO Marissa Streit in a video heralding the news. She claimed that schools have “been hijacked by the left” and “used by union bosses” to pursue an agenda “not for our children.” “We are just getting started — additional states are signing up,” Streit added. In a Meta ad, PragerU Kids highlighted that teachers can use its materials “without repercussions,” signaling that the organization likely fears parents outside of conservative echo chambers could find the videos offensive and inappropriate for the classroom. PragerU’s infiltration of school curriculum comes as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wages a statewide offensive against public education at every level. Florida recently adopted new classroom guidelines that mandate teachers tell students that enslaved people “developed skills” that “could be applied for their personal benefit.” Earlier this year, DeSantis staged a hostile takeover of public liberal arts school New College, installing anti-civil rights activist Christopher Rufo on the board of trustees; the college has recently seen a “ridiculously high” number of faculty members leave the school. Here’s what Florida’s latest salvo against public education actually looks like. Click on the link for the full article

This is right out of the Herman Goebbels handbook. Has there been any reports on educators reactions to this mandate? I can't imagine any moderate parent Dem or GQP seeing this and thinking it's acceptable/responsible to have there children see these videos. Another series, called “How To" instructs kids on the proper ways to conform to society’s expectations of them, or to repress any unease that results from a sense that power is unequally distributed. "So don’t let anybody tell you it’s bad to fit stereotypes.” Who's "society" are they referring to? I thought Puddin' Fingers banned talk of gender in elementary/middle school? It's Saturday. I gotta stop. My ****ing head hurts. These people...SMFH
Simmsy
Ok, teachers. I'll say it again: its time for you to do something about this **** in Florida. They can't mistreat you and force you to teach this **** if you're on strike. You really want to hurt Florida voters?
