Williams looked good, I'm betting that is why Miller is gonzo. They were both larger backs (Williams 217 n Miller 220) and were probably in direct competition with each other to be the deep depth in case of injury to Gibby or Barber. I can see Williams making the PS with the covid rules extension.

I don't see us carrying 4 RBs so I still think Patterson goes to the PS as well. Don't think anyone would poach him and he is a safe bet to clear waivers.

That would give us two RBs on the PS, One scat back and one w/ more of a bellcow build, which would be great in the face of an elongated season.

Sad to see Harmon go. hopefully he gets a shot somewhere else.

Harmon looked good when I watched him.  I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in Atlanta.  I recall Kyle Smith was high on him.

KDawg is the only person here who is high enough on Patterson.  Hes going to have a role this year.

He's not the only one.  I was calling for him among others in the 7th round before he ended up undrafted.  I was jazzed as heck when they signed him.  Posted a lot about it on the Patterson thread.

So to me it’s: Gibson, McKissick, Patterson and then it’s between Williams and Barber

Forgot whom, maybe it was Keim, who said Barber is a borderline lock.  Said they heard they are high on Barber and want someone who can get short distance yards like him.   And for Patterson to make it, which he might, they thought it was about having a 4th RB on the roster which is a possibility versus beating Barber.  I guess we will see though.

I think he gets in there and contributes later in the year after attrition sets in on a longer season. Even has a chance to be McK's natural replacement next season.

I just don't see a significant amount of available scat rushing reps for a guy behind Gibby, Mck, Samuel and Terry with some combination of Sims/Sims Jr/Wright/Dax (depending on who makes the roster) who have all taken handoffs in some capacity and can fulfill Patterson's role. Unless he proves he can give something on teams, even if he makes the roster it would be a struggle to even have a player like Patterson active on gameday. Hard to make an early impact if your not on the field is all.

I like Patterson, I just don't see a wide open pathway for the guy provided good team health atm.

If McK gets hobbled, he is right there. Without movement however he is absolutely buried under the depth chart for rushing opportunities as it expands well beyond the RB sphere. He is not seeing volume touches over Gibby McK or Samuel for scat reps. He is not getting a share of Gibby's, Barber's n Thomas's power run sets either. How is he supposed to make an impact facing that.

Love Patterson's slipperiness/quickness/vision.  My only reservation when watching him was he struck me what you'd think he'd be at his size at pass blocking -- poor at it.  And that I heard is a concern of theirs from a beat guy (I think it was Keim too if I recall) so I am assuming they are working with him on it.  I think if he can contribute on special teams he makes the team even though some think they still try to get him on the practice squad.

My last real RB camp crush was Almo, a late round pick who made the most of every opportunity. I kind of have the same vibe with Patterson. I'm pulling for him. But Almo impressed mostly because he fell forward on every run, gaining 2 extra yards on every touch. I know that's not Pattersons gig, instead he's a quick cut guy with vision and explosiveness. But I do feel he probably won't see much real game action regardless.

I am not a big Barber guy and I like Patterson so I'd love to see Patterson beat him.  But if its a 4 back rotation and Barber is back that's fine.

I don't see Patterson as a #1 RB type.  But I think he brings something different to the table.  Change of pace.  He's not fast but he's super quick and makes real quick cuts.  I don't love him.  I was calling for other backs in the draft ahead of him.  But I like him.  Once we got to the 7th round, I thought he was really good value and said so on that days draft thread.

I am with that fan below as for Barber.  I don't get it.   Barber struggles to even pull off a 3 YPA.   But judging by what some who have covered this team have said, Barber makes the team.  But Patterson has a shot too.  Good sign he's working today with the 2's.

I’m not some massive Peyton Barber apologist, but a short yardage back will generally have a lower YPC. If you’re putting him in when you only need one or two yards and the defense is geared to stop the run, a 3 yard carry is a success.

Agree.  But Gibson has the size IMO to fill that role.  I don't think its a coincidence that Gibson is good at finding the end zone in short yardage for example.  Old school 1980s football often had teams with a short yardage specialist but I don't see the need with this team so much.  Having said that, I trust Rivera.  So I never really give him that much of a hard time on any roster move because I trust him.  So if some beat guys end up right and Barber makes this roster is all likelihood -- I won't whine about it.  But for the record, I am not a big Barber guy.  Don't hate him either.    If I had to pick between Patterson and Barber, I am going Patterson albeit I get they are entirely different kind of backs.
