  1. 1. Rookie QB or Veteran QB for next season (2021)???

    • Draft QB first round
    • Rookie QB from outside first round
    • Sign FA Veteran
    • Trade for Veteran
    • Stand Pat with one of the QBs we have on Roster, draft QB in 2022 Draft iinstead
    • I don't know
    • I don't care
    • I'm tired of 5 year development plans burned to the ground in less then 2

I have a feeling that New England is in the Trey Lance sweepstakes and are going to try to find a way to move up for them. Grooming a rookie was probably a part of bringing Cam back and Lance fits the mold of what they want.

Man, we look like we are running out of options left and right.  I'm less optimistic on us getting a quality veteran then I've ever been since I made this thread.  Hope folks are happy with a rookie, because that's what this feels like now.  : /

I thought he was getting cut. Maybe throwing a pick at them to keep the competition in FA down.

The problem is Mariota’s contract, nobody wants to trade for that one year, potential 20mil contract, after incentives.

I think the issue is his current contract and didn't seem to want to rework it

If he can beat out Allen and Heinicke and lead us to win, I'll happily see him get that money.

Breer.  Kim Jones who covers the Jets at times said that she heard their GM< Joe Douglas has seen enough of Darnold to judge that its time for them to move on from him.  but the new coaching staff is intrigued about whether they can coach him up.

Status quo on the Sam Darnold front, with Darnold likely to be the next QB domino to fall....the team would like to see Wilson and Fields throw live at their pro days before making a final call, but has relayed some flexibility on that to other teams. What kind of deal would get it done? My guess would be maybe something north of what Arizona got for Josh Rosen in 2019 (that was a two and a five).

Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera saw a lot of Mitchell Trubisky last year, with the North Carolina quarterback on TV quite a bit in the Charlotte area. The Panthers, set with Cam Newton, weren’t in the market for a quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft, but Trubisky nonetheless stood out to the seventh-year Carolina coach and former Super Bowl-winning Bears linebacker.

For Rivera, more than Trubisky’s arm strength and athleticism jumped off the screen.

“Leadership,” Rivera pointed to. “When you watch him when he was playing — I love watching guys that either get on their teammates when they’re not doing it or they take accountability when they make a mistake. And you saw that with him.

“… We think the young man has got what it takes. We like who’s he’s gonna become. We do. We think the future can be bright for him. We are big fans here.”

So, are you assuming that he would be cut if he is not named the starter?

It's a bonus. If he starts, he gets 20. If he doesn't, he's paid like a back up. It's a very team friendly deal if you're going to gamble. It's bad for the Raiders because they have a starter, so its pointless.

Help me out here, KB13. As I read it, there are escalators for each game played, but if he is not the starter and does not play, he would still make his $10.6M base salary while riding the bench. That means we would be out that much unless we cut him. If I am missing something here, please explain for me.

He’d get base money of 11mil to be a back-up. In comparison Kyle Allen gets 850k and Heinicke not much different.

No way you take that Mariota contract on.
