China
Not exactly a challenge, but a stupid "Instagram influencer" story: Three dead after dry ice thrown into swimming pool during Instagram influencer’s birthday party Three people have been killed after dry ice was poured into a swimming pool during a birthday party in Moscow. The victims had been celebrating the 29th birthday of Instagram influencer Yekaterina Didenko at a pool complex in the Russian capital. About 25kg of dry ice was tipped into the pool with the intention of creating a “visual effect” to impress guests. But people inside the pool reportedly instantly began to choke and lose consciousness. Several people were injured during the stunt, including Ms Didenko’s husband, 32-year-old Valentin Didenko, who is reportedly among the dead. China
Shopkeepers urged by police not to sell baked beans to children due to new TikTok trend Kids have started emptying baked beans onto doorsteps as part of a bizarre TikTok trend - forcing police to ask shopkeepers to stop selling tins. Videos are being posted on the social media site under the hashtag #beanbandits, which show youths smearing the juicy breakfast staple onto driveways, doorsteps and even cars. West Yorkshire Police has now urged local shop workers to be aware of youths buying large quantities of cans of beans - in case of "beaning". In a statement, PCSO Michelle Owens said: "It has come to the attention of the police that a new trend has started by groups of youths called 'beaning'. "This involves youths throwing the contents of a can of beans over properties, very similar to the trend of throwing eggs at properties. "If you work in a shop, please can you be aware of youths buying large quantities of cans of beans, if you have children living at home, please be mindful if you see them removing cans of beans from the family home." Last month, Surrey police launched an appeal after the village of Wonersh was terrorised by so-called bean bandits. China
State AG seeks meeting with TikTok CEO over 'Slap a Teacher' challenge Connecticut Attorney General William Tong (D) on Monday urged TikTok leadership to meet with teachers and parents in the state — and himself — to address the “Slap a Teacher” challenge on the app. "TikTok fails to control the spread of dangerous content. In CT, vandalism closed schools and the new “Slap a Teacher” challenge may put educators at risk. I am urging TikTok to come to CT to meet with educators and parents and commit to reforms that stop this reckless content," Tong tweeted. The challenge involves a student calmly approaching a teacher and slapping them. It was scheduled to begin in October, though it does not seem to have caught on yet to a significant extent. In South Carolina's Lancaster County, however, parents were warned about the challenge on Monday after an elementary school student appeared to have followed through with the dare, WYFF reported. Cooked Crack
Quote That's when the Echo speaker suggested partaking in the challenge that it had "found on the web". The dangerous activity, known as "the penny challenge", began circulating on TikTok and other social media websites about a year ago. Metals conduct electricity and inserting them into live electrical sockets can cause electric shocks, fires and other damage.

China
Gnarly ‘garlic in nose’ TikTok trend makes stuffy noses worse: docs Shoving garlic cloves up your nose is snot a good idea. One of the new year’s most hazardous trends isn’t just odious — it reeks of pseudoscience, experts said. The harebrained hack has unofficial healers corking up their nostrils with raw garlic cloves for approximately 10 to 15 minutes in attempt to unclog a stuffy snout. After the user removes the garlic, a flash flood of mucus gushes from their noses, prompting the semblance and sensation of actual decongestion. But what’s really happening is far from therapeutic, Erich Voigt, associate professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at NYU Langone Health, told The Post. “It’s terrible,” the ear, nose and throat expert said. “The body wants to immediately expel the garlic and its chemicals, so it’s creating an overflow of mucus to flush out that irritant,” he continued, noting that the new crop of mucus is adding to the collection of clotted phlegm that originally caused the nasal congestion. “And because the nose is plugged up, the mucus can’t circulate like it would if you were breathing in and out, it’s just accumulating,” he said. In other words, that deluge of snot TikTokers observed is merely a product of their own doing. “It’s not the mucus that was trapped in there due to the disease or virus, it’s the production of mucus meant to get the garlic out,” Voigt said. China
Warning issued over ‘dragon’s breath’ viral video trend Indonesia is warning people against consuming liquid nitrogen after more than 20 children were harmed eating a street snack known as “dragon’s breath” that’s at the center of a dangerous new viral video trend. The children suffered burns to their skin, severe stomach pains and food poisoning after consuming the colorful candies, according to Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, which is urging parents, teachers and local health authorities to be vigilant. The candies are dipped in liquid nitrogen to create a vapor effect when eaten. They are popular with children, dozens of whom have uploaded clips to short-form video app TikTok showing them blowing the fumes out of their mouths, noses and ears. One video showing the preparation of the snack by a street vendor has been viewed close to 10 million times. Around 25 children have been hurt consuming the candies, including two who were hospitalized, said the ministry’s director general Maxi Rein Rondonuwu. No deaths have been reported. Using liquid nitrogen in food preparation is not illegal. Top chefs often use the vapors to create theatrical effects when serving dishes. It is clear, colorless and odorless, and commonly used in medical settings and as an ingredient to freeze food. However, when not used properly, it can be hazardous. China
TikTok challenge leaves teen disfigured with nearly 80% of body burned A TikTok challenge that went horribly wrong left a 16-year-old North Carolina boy severely disfigured, with burns covering nearly 80% of his body. Mason Dark and his friends were creating a makeshift torch with a spray paint can and a lighter, which triggered an explosion that consumed the teens in flames. “He’s unrecognizable. Unrecognizable,” his mother, Holli Dark, told WRAL. The teens from Wake Forest, a town roughly 17 miles northeast of Raleigh, were participating in a dangerous TikTok challenge where social media users use flammable aerosols to create miniature flamethrowers. EmirOfShmo
Influencer dies after live-streaming himself drinking bottles of Chinese spirit Baijiu A social media influencer died soon after live-streaming himself drinking several bottles of strong alcohol on China’s version of TikTok, state-run media in the country are reporting, in a development likely to renew debate about how to regulate the industry. The influencer “Sanqiange” (or “Brother Three Thousand”) was found dead just hours after broadcasting himself taking part in a competition with a fellow influencer which involved drinking Baijiu, a Chinese spirit with a typical alcohol content of between 30% to 60%, Shangyou News reported. One of his friends told the outlet that Sanqiange – identified by his real-life surname of Wang – had taken part in an online challenge known as “PK” against another influencer in the early hours of May 16 and live-streamed the results on his Douyin channel. “PK” challenges involve one-on-one battles in which influencers compete with each other to win rewards and gifts from viewers, and often involve punishments for the loser – apparently in this case, drinking Baijiu. “I don’t know how much he had consumed before I tuned in. But in the latter part of the video, I saw him finish three bottles before starting on a fourth,” the friend, identified only as Zhao, told Shangyou News. https://news.yahoo.com/influencer-dies-live-streaming-himself-070306274.html

China
Anyone heard from @tshile lately? Dangerous TikTok trends claim 4 lives in 6 months in Alabama: officials At least four people — including a father — have died in recent months for giving in to a new and deadly TikTok trend, Alabama authorities said. The thrill-seekers jumped or flipped off the backs of speeding boats, only to break their necks on the wake and drown, according to Cpt. Jim Dennis of the Childersburg Rescue Squad. “Last six months we have had four drownings that were easily avoidable. They were doing a TikTok challenge. It’s where you get in a boat going at a high rate of speed, you jump off the side of the boat, don’t dive, you’re jumping off feet first and you just kinda lean into the water,” Dennis told WBMA. The trend — dubbed boat jumping — has been an issue for first responders over the last two years, the captain said, but has especially picked up since the beginning of the year. tshile
Hah I’m alive as someone who grew up on boats and around water i assure you there is no shortage of dumb people doing dumb things on the water one night last week the day before the fourth I watched some drunk college guys paddle board out into the main traffic lane of the creek were in. At like midnight. I told the people with me a boat will come around that corner and kill one of them. Within 5 minutes of them heading in one came ripping around the corner. we have people hit islands in the middle of the night on jetskis the worst one ever was the aunt that took her niece out on a jetski. Niece falls off. Aunt thinks it’s funny to spin the jetski I’m a way to splash her with the jet. Nieces hair gets pulled into the intake. After some frantic moments of the aunt not being able to get her out of there she decides to gun the jetski to the shoreline. Drowned that poor girl to death. all she had to do was roll the jetski over so she could breath and then flag someone down to get scissors or a knife or something. It almost always seems to be a kid that dies from a not immediate relative doing something stupid. it’s kind of refreshing to see adults doing it to themselves on their own. Sad but not nearly as tragic as a 10 year old dying at the hands of an adult that should know better.
