Sure call a penalty on us but not on them earlier. 😡

And just like that they score again on their PP. :(

Less than 2 mins left in the game. Welp.

Yeah, there was a clear trip on Jensen, I believe it was, not too long before.

Officiating sucked for sure, but the refs aren't to blame for us getting outshot 3-1. We were hanging on, trying to steal a win.

Despite the shots on the board, Carolina needed puck luck to get that puck in our net and keep it out of theirs.

The analyst on the post game show, a former coach, was so furious about that penalty not called that he had to bite his lip and said I am glad I am not coaching tonight.

Was it Boudreau?

Somehow in the offseason they need to find a legit replacement for 1 or 2 of Nicky, Oshie, Kuzy, Ovi, Carlson..

The only way to truly replace those guys is to draft and develop them. They're not available on the waiver wire, or via mid-grade free agent signings, or via trade (unless you want to give up a lot in return).

It's very rare that a team can effectively replace an entire aging core without sucking for a few years and rebuilding through several top #5 draft picks.

And speaking of high draft picks, that really sucks that we're going to likely miss the playoffs, and not even have a top #10 first round pick to show for it. That's like your wife leaving you because she catches you having an online affair with someone, but you don't even get to bang the girl (I actually know a guy that happened to, btw).

Crappy night to be a Caps fan.

Sam Reinhart is set to be a free agent at the end of the season.  He's currently sitting at 53 goals.  Just saying, the Backstrom and Kuznetsov salaries would go a long way towards paying him.

Jumping into high-end free agency. That 's one alternative to rebuilding the right way (i.e. taking your licks for a few years, and stocking up on high draft picks who will be under team control at reasonable salaries for a long time). And it's a risky alternative.  Signing a guy like Reinhart, hoping his 50 - 60 goal season is sustainable (even though it's almost double his career high, and he won't be playing with half the talent in DC which he is in Florida). There's a chance it works out,, but there's a really big chance it won't.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love for this team - which has almost zero secondary scoring - to add a weapon up front. I just don't think it would address all the other flaws we have.

Not sure what happened to our spurt of scoring but it's definitely dried up again. Thought they were starting to find a groove last month, but maybe it was just luck and fools gold. And we pay an excessive amount in salary to defense that is bad at playing defense. We screen our own goalie at least 2 or 3 times every game. 😒

These bums don't even deserve to be in the playoffs anyways.

What a ****ty power play as usual.  I simply do not understand how they have better offense when it is 5v5 than they do 5v4.

Even the commentators were saying how the Caps need to put more shots on goal and go for rebounds and stuff, instead of doing all these stupid cute passes.

True. Honestly, if they make the postseason, they're going to get their asses handed to them by the Rangers or the Bruins. If they somehow manage the 3rd spot in the Metro, I could see them pushing Carolina to 6 or maybe 7 games, because they seem to match up well against them.

At the same time, they've played themselves out of a good draft pick, so we may as well root for a playoff berth, even if it will amount to nothing more than a one and done.
