MEANDWARF
One of my generation's local childhood star. RIP Mr Robinson! https://www.mlb.com/news/frank-robinson-dies/c-303656538 Frank Robinson, a trailblazing figure who was Major League Baseball's first African-American manager and one of its greatest players during a career that spanned 21 seasons, died Thursday after a prolonged illness, MLB.com has learned. He was 83.
Spaceman Spiff
Very sad day, big loss for baseball. One of the true all time greats, I think he was a bit underrated cause he fell just short of 600 homers and 3,000 hits. But he was a complete badass and played hard. One of the games most important figures post WWII for his play on the field and his contribution as the first black manager (and managed some good teams, too, '89 Orioles). spjunkies
I was listening to the radio on Saturday and they said that he was in a bad way. RIP to a legend.
StillUnknown
Posted this in the nats thread, but he was a giant of the game, even in his later years.

Redskin4ever
RIP Frank. Thank you for all you did for the game of baseball. A true legend of the game both on the field and off the field.
Sticksboi05
Will always remember his days as the Nationals first manager. And yes, that stare down was incredible.
TheGreatBuzz
I texted @thegreaterbuzzette, who is from the Baltimore area, to tell her about this. She responded "who?"

You were 10. Very different cognitive memory. At that age baseball was hotdogs and ice cream cones for me.

Rocky21
The only player to be named the most valuable player in both leagues and one of only two players (the other being Nolan Ryan) to have their number retired by three different clubs. I doubt most people who are younger than him, myself included, can truly understand the amount of racist bull**** this guy had to live with. Kilmer17
Reading more about Frank, I just learned that he went to HS with, and played basketball with Bill Russell and also that Curt Flood was on his HS baseball team. Wow.
