Why has a female never played in the NFL?

This is something I imagine I could research through the internet but thot it could be a fun topic to discuss..if not, mods work your magic.

Has there ever been a time in NFL history were they have considered allowing women to play in the NFL?

To me it wouldn't bother me one bit. Now I would think if they were going to allow women to play there would be maybe..6-9 women in the league..so you would have a half dozen or more teams with a women on it...I was thinking of an offense of linewomen...that probably wouldn't work..but maybe..but sure as heck could see some defense of linewomen...from my understanding women tolerate pain alot easier than men..and more pain...I don't know  just thought it would be interesting.

At the end of the day, males are just naturally bigger, faster, stronger. You're already taking the most elite athletes in the world and making up those in the NFL. I just don't know if its physically possible, outside of maybe a punter or kicker to match that? I think of the four major sports, football is the biggest long shot, but never say never.

A female player could accuse someone by saying he put his hands on my breasts and groped me while tackling me. Sexual harassment would/could be a nightmare.

Also are the stadium bathroom built to accommodate female players?

Thank you mods for moving...I could see that happening..possibly being the reason for there only being a half dozen or more so women in the league..

Route running

That's just wrong, lol.

I think if it will happen it'll happen at kicker. I think we're more likely to see a woman from the WNBA make the transition to the NBA than women play pro football... though I suppose there are always exceptions/physical freaks.

While girls can sometimes hang in Jr high and high school, by the time males reach full maturity, males are just faster, stronger, more agile, etc. Even in college hoops, you could take some of UCONN's best women's teams and a mediocre mid major could beat them handily. Size, strength, etc. As Burgold said, if it ever happens, I'm seeing the punter or kicker spot. Maybe even long snapper if she's big enough and strong enough, even in strength, there are limits women reach that men just pull far away.

Strangely enough, of the major sports in this country, it is probably football where they have the best chance, not the least because of the specialization of the kicking position. Hundreds of thousands of girls play soccer, and there might be a small chance of one of them being good enough to kick. In addition, there are female college rugby teams and international teams like the All-Blacks female team--females even play rugby in the Olympics. No they are not close to male size and strength, but some of those girls can kick or punt over 50 yards with ease. A female kicker could kick off and just jog off the field. Heck, when the NFL had the first great influx of midget soccer players kicking, coaches told some of them to just run off the field after kicking. Girls also participate in UFC, MMA, boxing, etc....so they are not strangers to physical contact and there is a pool of females who would at least probably give it a shot.

Baseball? Years ago there was a pro girls team sponsored by Coors called the Silver Bullets, coached by Phil Niekro. They were losing to high school boys teams. Maybe a female can develop a good enough breaking pitch to be a specialized relief pitcher, but I doubt it.

Basketball? The physical talent pool is automatically smaller, as there simply aren't many women over 6'2", let alone ones that can ball. Very few can even jump high enough to dunk. The only position I can see a female playing is PG or SG, and the defensive lability would be so great that I doubt they see the floor. If Isaiah Thomas, noted little baller who was scoring 30 a game for the Celtics, was being ripped for his defense, what would happen to a female?

Hockey? Goalie, maybe?? IDK...can't see a girl holding her own in the crease.

The Tampa bay lightning had a female goalie for a time but it was very brief.

Bottom line has been said many times and i'll reiterate, women are not as strong or as fast as men.

That's not to say women can't be better at sports than men,  just that the top of every sport the men are always going to be better,  its just genetics.

Good example,  I play basketball 3 days a week and there's one woman who plays with us who can not only hold her own but she's one of the best players on the court.

Most of us are in our 40's or 50's and she recently graduated from Michigan where she played for the basketball team.

If she was a 40 year old casual player trying to play against a man who just finished playing for Michigan it would be embarrassingly lopsided.

It just is what it is,  until evolution makes women stronger and faster it'll be this way.

I'm a little surprised it hasn't happened yet. And I think the first position it'll be isn't kicker. I think it'll be Long Snapper.

Maybe it'll take a few years now, but with all the new rules protecting the LS (can't line up over, can only leap over if you don't touch or it's 15 yards, etc.), I think it's the one position that would be so easy to break into if you specialize in it.

My wife and I aren't having kids, but I've always told her if we did I'd encourage them to either be a pitcher (if a lefty) or a specialist (LS, P, K).

Not likely. On punts they are the usually the first ones down the field. Thats a disaster/injury waiting to happen.

Its never gonna happen.
