I'm a kind of obsessed birder/bird photographer, so I do all kinds of crazy things to get the birds/photos I want. My wife barely tolerates it... There's no one specific tactic. The main thing is to know your subject really really well. I've been birding for ~15 years, and generally have a pretty good sense of what I'm going to see (or what I'm hoping to see) every time I go out. I know the birds preferences regarding weather, habitat, food, etc, and plan accordingly. (I'm not taking the woodpecker bait). To keep us on track, here are some more pics...
