Trump can’t get out of deposition in E. Jean Carroll defamation lawsuit, judge rules

A federal judge rejected former President Donald Trump’s attempt to pause his deposition in a defamation lawsuit scheduled for later this month saying Trump’s efforts to delay the case are “inexcusable.”

Trump is scheduled to be deposed on October 19 in the defamation lawsuit brought by E. Jean Carroll, a former magazine columnist who accused Trump of raping her in a department store in the mid 1990s. Trump has denied the allegations.

Judge Lewis Kaplan said the lawsuit wasn’t over yet and as they wait for a federal appeals court to rule on a key element of the case, “completing those depositions – which have already been delayed for years – would impose no undue burden on Mr. Trump, let alone any irreparable injury.”

“The defendant should not be permitted to run the clock out on plaintiff’s attempt to gain a remedy for what allegedly was a serious wrong,” Kaplan wrote.

The judge said that Carroll would face “substantial injury” from further delay, citing the lengthy appeal process, which has already taken 20 months and is still not over, and the ages of Carroll and Trump, who are both in their 70s. Carroll’s deposition is scheduled for this Friday.

Kaplan noted Trump’s efforts to delay the lawsuit and said his production of “virtually” no documents was “inexcusable.”

An attorney for Trump could not immediately be reached.

NYC judge reverses course after ordering large portions of Trump’s deposition in rape case unsealed

Former President Donald Trump appeared to dodge another legal bullet Monday, when a federal judge ordered large portions of his deposition in a rape case unsealed — only to abruptly reverse course and allow them to stay under wraps for the time being.

Manhattan Federal Judge Lewis Kaplan ordered the unsealing of portions of the transcript of Trump’s sitdown with E. Jean Carroll’s lawyers, which happened late last year, and then granted a request by the former president asking for three days to oppose it.

Kaplan had earlier noted that Trump was obliged to file his opposition in mid-December but did not — “and has made no effort to justify the continued sealing of his deposition.”

Carroll’s lawsuit, filed on Nov. 24, accuses Trump of pinning her against a wall and raping her in a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman’s on Fifth Ave. near E. 58th St. between fall 1995 and spring 1996. She says she still has the dress she wore during the alleged indecent and believes it has Trump’s DNA.

The suit also includes a defamation claim tied to inflammatory comments Trump made in September, when she first notified the court of the new lawsuit. Trump doubled down on remarks for which Carroll was already suing him, ones he made when he was still president.

Carroll first sued Trump, in an ongoing case, for calling her a liar when she initially went public with allegations in 2019 and he said she was “not my type.”

RNC Race Heats Up Between Trump-Supporting Chair And Trump-Supporting Challenger

Facing a contested race for chairman for the first time in over a decade, the Republican National Committee is hosting a members-only candidate forum at its winter meeting this month, where incumbent Ronna McDaniel will have to face challenger Harmeet Dhillon.

The closed-door confrontation is not technically a debate, like Dhillon has repeatedly called for, but rather a forum for the candidates to present their pitch and, if they wish, take questions from the members in attendance.

“The candidate can use the time to give a speech, take questions, or both. The use of the allotted time is in the sole discretion of each candidate,” read a memo sent to the RNC’s 168 members Tuesday. “A podium and microphone will be provided, but the use of audiovisual or electronic equipment is prohibited.”

Dhillon’s main argument is that McDaniel has presided over poor Republican performances ever since she was hand-picked by Donald Trump to run the RNC after he unexpectedly won the White House in 2016.

In 2018, Republicans lost control of the House. They lost the White House and the Senate two years later, and then barely took back the House in the recent midterms while actually losing a seat in the Senate.

Neither Dhillon nor McDaniel, though, has of yet publicly put the blame on the person many Republicans privately acknowledge was the reason for those losses: the coup-attempting former president himself, who, while popular with the GOP base, has long alienated key swing voters.

Dhillon, in fact, has Trump as a law client and continues to praise him, telling audiences that she voted for him twice.

List of George Santos Lies: All the Mistruths the Congressman Is Accused of Telling

New York Rep. George Santos is facing a laundry list of allegations that he's lied about virtually everything in his personal and professional backstory - some of which he's acknowledged, some of which he's remained silent on.

Following is a list of what Santos, a Long Island Republican representing New York's third congressional district, allegedly lied about, and what he has admitted or denied:

  • Lying about where he went to school - Santos has admitted that he did not attend the universities he had previously claimed on his resume.
  • Lying about where he worked - Santos has admitted lying about this as well.
  • Lying about owning a number of rental properties - Santos claimed to own a series of rental properties but later acknowledged he didn't.
  • Lying about being robbed of his rent money - Santos said he was once mugged while on his way to pay his rent in Queens. The NYPD has no record of such a robbery.
  • Lying about being Jewish - Santos repeatedly said during his campaign he was a proud American Jew - but later backtracked and identified as "Jew-ish" after reporting raised questions about his ethnicity.
  • Lying about his criminal status in Brazil - Santos has stridently denied committing crimes in Brazil or anywhere else, but Brazilian prosecutors have moved to reopen a years-old fraud case against him.
  • Lying to donors - CNBC reported that Santos' staff impersonated staffers for now-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in order to raise funds from wealthy donors. Santos' lawyer would not answer CNBC's question about whether Santos knew of the deception.
  • Lying about his athletic accomplishments - Long Island GOP officials said Santos told them he was a star volleyball player at Baruch College; Santos has already acknowledged he never attended the school.
  • Lying about the timing of his mother's death - Santos has publicly said that the 9/11 attacks claimed his mother's life, though she died in 2016 and there is no evidence of a connection.
  • Lying about his campaign finances - Santos has denied any improprieties in his fundraising, but law enforcement sources tell News 4 that federal prosecutors are looking into his campaign finances amid claims of fraud and improper donations.

Umm.. banning speech?

BANNING SPEECH.

The Government made a law banning a word.

We have a whole host of words that people find offensive. Have any of them ever actually been made illegal to say?

Why do we even HAVE a Constitution?

I have an idea. "****" isn't banned, neither is "inbred ****".
I think it would be nice if those words being shouted are all anyone can hear whenever she speaks anywhere.

The old battle ax did us a favor.  “Latinx” is big reason why the DNC has lost ground with Spanish-speaking/bilingual voters of late.

Spanish is very gender specific which why many Latinos/latinas don’t care for Latinx.  Also, many Latinos are catholic; so they tend to be more conservative .

In a 2021 Gallup poll, when Hispanics/Latinos were asked their preference between Hispanic, Latino, and Latinx, the overwhelming majority—57 percent—put down, “Does not matter.”

As someone who literally lived through the colored/negro/black/African American phases, I find it incredibly difficult to base my desire on who should be in charge of the country over it.
