clskinsfan
I know there is a thread about Joe Barry "turning things around". With the talent that will be available at Defensive Coordinator this off season I dont see Barry getting a chance to turn anything around. Here is the expected defensive coaching talent that will be available in the off season: Greg Manusky it is: Now that we know who the "new" DC is we can start to talk about the teams plans for aquiring talent on that side of the ball this offseason. I will update this thread throughout FA and the draft with articles about any players and coaches added to that side of the ball. He are a bunch on Greg Manusky and a lot of it is not very good press IMO. Greg Manusky: Manusky most recently ran a 3-4 Hybrid defense. He also has experience in the 4-3. He obviously studied under Chuck Pagano who ran the Ravens Defense for a while and Tony Dungy: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/ManuGr0.htm http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/nfl/colts/2014/10/23/colts-defensive-coordinator-greg-manusky/17792389/ http://www.colts.com/team/coaches/Greg-Manusky/6dd78169-300c-4a8f-a414-6e50fdf67126 http://www.upi.com/Sports_News/2016/08/03/Indianapolis-Colts-personnel-lagging-behind-new-defensive-mindset/1291470199359/ http://www.boltsfromtheblue.com/2011/5/11/2166889/a-peek-at-san-diego-chargers-defensive-coordinator-greg-manuskys-history http://www.scout.com/nfl/colts/story/1629868-colts-fire-defensive-coordinator-greg-manusky http://www.mercurynews.com/2007/08/24/niners-put-new-look-3-4-defense-on-display/ http://www.csnmidatlantic.com/washington-redskins/redskins-defensive-coordinator-resume-greg-manusky http://www.stampedeblue.com/2017/1/5/14182216/chuck-paganos-defenses-with-the-colts-have-been-really-bad http://horseshoeheroes.com/2015/01/31/colts-defense-improved-enough-pagano-manusky/
DM72
Rex Ryan or Todd Bowles. Rex Ryan preferred.
Mr. Sinister
Very lovely options, those are. Gotta have one of em.
SemperFi Skins
Vic Fangio/Rex Ryan.... No to everyone else. Prefer Fangio, even if he turned us down.... He turned the 32nd ranked Bears defense to 7th overall in one offseason and used to run a hell of a ship in San Fran.
SemperFi Skins
preferable option: Throwing a boat load of money at Kirby Smart, head coach of UGA and making Olivadotti the assistant coach of defense.
drowland
No thanks to Rex. His defense has been exposed and he's too stubborn to adjust, much like his old man. He took over a Top 5, SB caliber defense in Buffalo and made it average because he wanted them to play his way. Give me Bradley or someone who calls a defense where the players aren't looking over at the sideline confused.

I absolutely don't see him working fine with Jay. 39 minutes ago, clskinsfan said: Todd Bowles His D in NYJ is a mess, with better overall talent than around here. His stout D in Arizona was inherited from Horton (who's on pace to became the second 0-16 DC in the NFL). What makes you guys think he would succeed here? 39 minutes ago, clskinsfan said: Gus Bradley Guy needs a break. Had crappy D everywhere he went but for 2 years in Seattle when they invested heavily in it. So he needs talent to perform, which we don't have. 39 minutes ago, clskinsfan said: Greg Williams Bounty. No way. 39 minutes ago, clskinsfan said: Vic Fangio He was our first choice two years ago. He said no. Let him out of Redskins Park. 39 minutes ago, clskinsfan said: Marvin Lewis Not sure the guy that have raised Jay Gruden will want to come to play under him. That may feel like a regression. Boss_Hogg
I see Joe Barry coming back next season unless our team gets torched by Matt Barkley and Elijah's backup in week 17. The only guy up there who has a slight chance of coming here is Gus Bradley. Why? Cuz he was a Tampa guy before a Seattle guy.
MartinC
Don't want to rain on anyone's parade here but the prevailing opinion of all the beat guys based on what they are hearing is Joe Barry will be back next year. The blame is being put on lack of talent to work with not coaching.
SoulSkin
I saw the same thing from a couple of beat guys on twitter yesterday too. I can't remember who. The powers that be are 'sympathetic' to him because of the lack of talent, and they like his vison for the D, or something like that.

I heard Cooley this morning saying he thought it was more than likely that the team would be moving on from Barry. So there seems to be some mixed messages in the media. But what else is new as far as that goes.
sonofzorn187
Same or different defensive guy is going to have some of the same issues if they don't improve the personnel on defense. You can mask things with certain packages but you are who you are and the NFL will pick up on things with a quickness. The draft is going to be vital to this teams success in the future especially when Cousins gets his payday. Would love an upgrade at corner for sure and whoever is here with have to decide what players fit the defensive scheme better.
bobandweave
If we are dumb enough to keep Joe Barry around another year it will be a huge mistake and a wasted season.
skinfan2k
Why do people keep on insisting to get former HCs as defensive coordinators??? I dont need someone to come here for a year, then go leave us? All defensive coordinators look good when you have great personnel. All defensive coordinators look terrible when you dont have ballers

skinzplay
Keim is the only beat writer whose opinion I'd fully bank on. He's been more than diplomatic in trying not to say that Barry should be fired, but if you read between the lines, he gives clear (and compelling) indications of why that should be the case. Still a bit miffed that we could've had Wade, but let him walk in favor of Joe doggone Barry. Utter lunacy, and it certainly shows. I want to see Gruden succeed because, hey, I want to see our Skins succeed. But I have a feeling that keeping Barry will ultimately stunt the development of a lot of young players, keep some players from coming here (agents know when coaches are trash, too), and put this team in too many situations where we're left scratching our heads at soft zones and prevent defenses at the end of close games. TradeTheBeal!
Tough to spend too much energy thinking about DCs when you don't have a single ILB on the roster. I've seen Barry dial up schemes all year that get Compton unblocked right in the hole...and the dude gets trucked. Fix it, Scot.
zoony
I'm not sure I want a HC retread who is going to be a distraction and feed the offseason hype machine but if it's going to be one of them I like Todd bowles the Ryan's are done in the NFL
lavar1156
It wont matter who we hire if we trot out the same ILB's and safeties next year. Good lord they are terrible.
ExoDus84
Offer Wade an assistant head coaching position, and back up the brinks truck. I'd take Fangio or maybe Ryan. I don't know enough about Bradley or Bowles. I do know enough about Joe Barry to give me a stroke, and would like to see the team move on.
Dark Acre
I'm tired of the 3-4. Done with it. I don't care whether we hybridize it or what. Our defense, which was respectable within recent memory, has sucked ever since we went 3-4. Baker to DT, Murphy to DE, draft a DE, DT, MLB, S. We may not get stars, but we can certainly upgrade. Last night was disgusting how bad our front 3 or 4 or howevermany were getting trucked. Redskins football: control the clock, convert on 3rd down, and run the 4-3. Commander -JB-
I'm pretty sure Jay Gruden won't get canned. I have a feeling that he will can Joe Berry (Scapegoat) who was just a stopgap coach I believe until they obtain more talent and better options to coach up the defense. However, I do not think Rex Ryan is a good option.
clskinsfan
I actually prefer the 3-4 as theoretically it allows you to have more speed and playmakers on the field in your base set. The only stipulation to a true 3-4 is that you MUST have a real NT. That NT needs to be huge and athletic. And there just are not that many human beings that fit that description alive in the world. I would not be against going back to the 4-3 base. But we dont have the personnel to run it right now. Although I am going to assume we will see big changes to the defensive side of the roster in the off season. Which would give a new DC the ability to set whatever base he wants. I have generally been against going crazy in free agency. But with what the Giants have done this year I am more open to it.
