The upcoming Changes on Defense (Manusky Hired) Tons of links

I know there is a thread about Joe Barry "turning things around". With the talent that will be available at Defensive Coordinator this off season I dont see Barry getting a chance to turn anything around. Here is the expected defensive coaching talent that will be available in the off season:

Greg Manusky it is:

Now that we know who the "new" DC is we can start to talk about the teams plans for aquiring talent on that side of the ball this offseason. I will update this thread throughout FA and the draft with articles about any players and coaches added to that side of the ball. He are a bunch on Greg Manusky and a lot of it is not very good press IMO.

Greg Manusky: Manusky most recently ran a 3-4 Hybrid defense. He also has experience in the 4-3. He obviously studied under Chuck Pagano who ran the Ravens Defense for a while and Tony Dungy:

No thanks to Rex.  His defense has been exposed and he's too stubborn to adjust, much like his old man.  He took over a Top 5, SB caliber defense in Buffalo and made it average because he wanted them to play his way.

Give me Bradley or someone who calls a defense where the players aren't looking over at the sideline confused.

Rex Ryan

He's an ambarassment in the making. That would be a Vinny signing here...

I absolutely don't see him working fine with Jay.

His D in NYJ is a mess, with better overall talent than around here. His stout D in Arizona was inherited from Horton (who's on pace to became the second 0-16 DC in the NFL). What makes you guys think he would succeed here?

Guy needs a break.

Had crappy D everywhere he went but for 2 years in Seattle when they invested heavily in it. So he needs talent to perform, which we don't have.

Bounty. No way.

Vic Fangio

He was our first choice two years ago. He said no.

Let him out of Redskins Park.

Not sure the guy that have raised Jay Gruden will want to come to play under him. That may feel like a regression.

Don't want to rain on anyone's parade here but the prevailing opinion of all the beat guys based on what they are hearing is Joe Barry will be back next year.

The blame is being put on lack of talent to work with not coaching.

That is interesting. I heard Cooley this morning saying he thought it was more than likely that the team would be moving on from Barry. So there seems to be some mixed messages in the media. But what else is new as far as that goes.

Same or different defensive guy is going to have some of the same issues if they don't improve the personnel on defense. You can mask things with certain packages but you are who you are and the NFL will pick up on things with a quickness.

The draft is going to be vital to this teams success in the future especially when Cousins gets his payday. Would love an upgrade at corner for sure and whoever is here with have to decide what players fit the defensive scheme better.

Why do people keep on insisting to get former HCs as defensive coordinators??? I dont need someone to come here for a year, then go leave us?

All defensive coordinators look good when you have great personnel. All defensive coordinators look terrible when you dont have ballers

Then maybe Dan should just save his money and have no coordinator?  Seeing as how they are completely irrelevant.

Keim is the only beat writer whose opinion I'd fully bank on. He's been more than diplomatic in trying not to say that Barry should be fired, but if you read between the lines, he gives clear (and compelling) indications of why that should be the case.

Still a bit miffed that we could've had Wade, but let him walk in favor of Joe doggone Barry. Utter lunacy, and it certainly shows. I want to see Gruden succeed because, hey, I want to see our Skins succeed. But I have a feeling that keeping Barry will ultimately stunt the development of a lot of young players, keep some players from coming here (agents know when coaches are trash, too), and put this team in too many situations where we're left scratching our heads at soft zones and prevent defenses at the end of close games.

I'm tired of the 3-4.  Done with it.  I don't care whether we hybridize it or what.  Our defense, which was respectable within recent memory, has sucked ever since we went 3-4.  Baker to DT, Murphy to DE, draft a DE, DT, MLB, S.  We may not get stars, but we can certainly upgrade.  Last night was disgusting how bad our front 3 or 4 or howevermany were getting trucked.  Redskins football:  control the clock, convert on 3rd down, and run the 4-3.

I actually prefer the 3-4 as theoretically it allows you to have more speed and playmakers on the field in your base set. The only stipulation to a true 3-4 is that you MUST have a real NT. That NT needs to be huge and athletic. And there just are not that many human beings that fit that description alive in the world. I would not be against going back to the 4-3 base. But we dont have the personnel to run it right now. Although I am going to assume we will see big changes to the defensive side of the roster in the off season. Which would give a new DC the ability to set whatever base he wants. I have generally been against going crazy in free agency. But with what the Giants have done this year I am more open to it.
