Hurricane Lee strengthens to Category 5: Projected path, maps and tracker

Hurricane Lee, now churning over the Atlantic Ocean, has become a Category 5.

As a Category 5, hurricane Lee is expected to have winds of 160 mph.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) sent out an advisory notice after Lee became a Category 5, warning that dangerous beach conditions were expected to develop around the Western Atlantic through early next week.

"Lee is a dangerous Category 5 hurricane, and further strengthening is possible," the NHC said in an advisory notice at 5 a.m. on Friday morning. "Lee's core is expected to move well north of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Island, and Puerto Rico this weekend and early next week."

Man did we dodge a bullet. Still getting winds and rain already. No beach or diving for the week because of tides and rip tides.

My folks used to have a cabin in the mountains not too far and every spring, fire season, was nerve wracking.  I can only imagine how that is for you guys down there re hurricanes. Glad this one passed you up.

Videos shared on social media show the pool flooded with floodwaters storming outside of the gate, as the sea lion is sheltering on the top of a rock. Due to the severe rainfall in New York City, it was reported that a female sea lion at the Central Park Zoo was able to swim out of her pool because of flooding in the plaza.

Clouds and rain tomorrow for the DMV.

Mentioning this as we'll miss this year's eclipse - 2023 Annular Eclipse

Hopefully we'll have sunny skies for next year's total eclipse, which should be, very slightly, better than 2017's for this region.

(fysa - the next eclipse (annular) to pass directly over DC will be in 2111. Can't wait!)

Washington Nationals annual law firm softball tournament IS PROCEEDING AS PLANNED.  I hope they at least put a canopy over the beer garden.
