We'll see about this. We all assumed he would be a 3 and done, but it's really been more like 2 and done.  While I am certain he would wow them at the combine, Diggs would be an almost certain 1st rounder if he played every game his senior year.  Looking at 2nd/3rd round right now.  I think the smaller risk / higher reward is playing at MD.

Yep.

I think it's in his best interests to come back to school.

I'd like to see him play with a QB (Caleb Rowe) who has an arm.

A Closer Look: Maryland vs. Penn State in Local Recruiting

Maryland's win over Penn State attracted a load of attention to the potential rivalry, and with it the recruiting overlap between the two programs. Randy Edsall was jazzed up about his newly boosted sales pitch for recruits considering Penn State, and several recruits said they liked the feistiness Maryland showed at Beaver Stadium.

But not everyone was as high on Maryland's prospects of competing with the Nittany Lions on the trail. On Monday following Maryland's win, ESPN published a story describing the Washington area as "Nittany Lion territory" (Insider), while Rivals claimed Maryland, despite beating Penn State for the first time in 51 years, in Happy Valley and with many mutual recruits watching, managed to lose ground in recruiting against PSUbecause of its players' pregame behavior.

As usual, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Class of 2015

The Rundown: Penn State has commitments from two locals, Gaitherburg's Kamonte Carter and Quince Orchard's Adam McLean. The other top local coveted by both schools is Isaiah Prince, the No. 1 player in Maryland and the nation's No. 9 offensive tackle. Maryland currently holds 43 percent of selections in his Crystal Ball while Penn State hasn't received a prediction yet.

Penn State also landed a commitment from St. John's (D.C.) safety Ayron Monroe, a three-star prospect who was also recruited by Maryland.

Conclusion: Maryland never offered Carter and seemed to shy away from McLean, but they're two top-five locals headed to Happy Valley nonetheless. Aside from Prince, there aren't any other top-25 in-state players choosing between the schools.

Two Maryland commits earn bumps

Maryland commits Mike Majette and Ty Johnson have each been given bumps in the 247Sports rankings. Johnson is up from a low three-star to an 87 while Majette now has a grade of 89, the highest possible three-star.

With Johnson, we had a chance to see him in a Nike Camp setting in the spring and while he had a good showing, he also demonstrated that he's not an elite athlete. At his size and weight, we would have liked to see more flash athletically. Then we got a chance to see Johnson's senior film and when the pads come on, he does show that flash. He's got great burst with the ball in his hands, is able to finish runs with power and he can ride out with long speed on big plays. He's more of an every down Big Ten back than we probably initially gave him credit for.

With Majette, he's had an outstanding season and we love his versatility. It's hard to project a guy like Majette because he hasn't perfected one position in high school. I like a guy like though that can do it all with ball skills, movement skills and big play ability on either side of the ball. He's got upside with that kind of skill set. With Majette now on that four-star cusp, I wouldn't even rule out the possibility of him earning that fourth star as we look at the rest of the state of Virginia in context after the season.

Maryland Welcomes Top-10 Recruiting Class

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women’s basketball team will welcome two stellar players to its family for the 2015-16 season, head coach Brenda Frese announced Wednesday. Brianna Fraser (Brooklyn, N.Y./South Shore High School) and Kiah Gillespie (Meriden, Conn./Capital Prep Magnet) make up the No. 10 recruiting class in the nation and the 10th top-10 recruiting class brought in by Frese and her staff in her 13 years at Maryland.

Both are ranked in the top 20 of the class of 2015. Fraser, a 6-3 forward, is the No. 12 overall player by the All Star Girls Report and is the No. 15 overall recruit in the class by ESPN’s Hoop Gurlz.  Gillespie,a 6-2 forward, is ranked No. 14 by Prospects Nation and No. 27 by ESPN’s Hoop Gurlz.

“We’re really happy about the two players and families we’re adding into our program with this signing class,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “I want to thank everyone we built relationships with along the way. A lot of people helped us in the process. Both Bri and Kiah have the chance to make big impacts here and to play this game for a long time. They both have special qualities that are very hard to find. They’re both also interesting stories in that Bri is fairly new to the game and was raised in a family where cricket was the No. 1 sport. Meantime, Kiah’s dad and mom both coach basketball, so you can see they took different paths to reach the same destination. It’s going to be awesome to be a part of their journeys. They’re going to make us a better basketball program.”

“I’d also be remiss if I didn’t give a huge ‘shout-out’ to our terrific staff that works so hard to make days like this happen.”

rivals thinks MD hurt its recruiting chances vs PSU because of the lack of handshake?

i dont think so.

I agree. If MD was recruiting a bunch of old white guys, then they are probably correct that it did hurt them. But they are recruiting kids who love seeing stuff like that. They stood up to someone trying to bully them and then won the game. Kids love that.

What's everyone's opinion on inviting top recruits to games where you're likely to get your ass handed to you?

In Penn State's case, I know the night games at Happy Valley with the white outs are impressive, and you can sell the stadium size, the atmosphere, etc.  That being said, I was still hesitant to invite recruits for the game against Ohio State.  As it turns out, the game was close and the atmosphere was great, so it worked out, but if Ohio State had rolled us by 30 points, I'd be curious if it hurt more than it helped, especially considering some of the recruits are being pursued by both schools.

Similar question going into tonight.  I have no idea what sort of atmosphere Byrd Stadium has, I've never been.  Are you comfortable having top recruits visit for a game where you're expected to have your doors blown off?

Side note, this isn't trash talk.  Penn State plays Michigan State in two weeks and I'm pretty sure they're going to slaughter us.

even when i went there, MD would invite top recruits to both bball and football top games.  I think they are selling the atmosphere and you could be seen as a god if you can play well in a terps uniform.

I guess they feel like, while they may lose, they won't get their asses handed to them. They were respectable against Clemson last year at home when they were in the top 10.

HUH????   You are joking right.  Ohio State rolled us.  Maybe you should watch.

Pretty sure he's a PSU fan and that game (PSU-OST) went down to the wire.
