Califan007 The Constipated
Do we do these for Free Agents? Or just draft picks? lol...If not, feel free to merge (not that you needed my approval to do that..heh). Free-agent analysis: Adam Hayward What he got: Three years, $3 million with a $300,000 bonus. Quick analysis: Hayward is considered a good leader and solid special teams player, both of which the Redskins needed. He spent seven seasons in Tampa Bay, starting 13 games. He’s 6-foot-1, 240 pounds and runs well. His best time in the 40-yard dash in 2007 (when he was coming out of Portland State) was 4.46 seconds. Having big players who can run is an absolute must on special teams; it’s also one of the reasons Lorenzo Alexander was so good in this area. He’s also considered a good locker room guy. Obviously the Redskins know him well, with Raheem Morris and Bruce Allen both having worked with him in Tampa Bay. You typically do better in free agency when you have a history with a player. Impact: The Redskins needed to add inside linebackers, but considering Hayward is more of a special teams standout it’s hard to imagine their work here is done. They had been linked to Joe Mays as well; he’s another special teams standout. Tough to see how this bumps anyone off the roster considering they lacked depth.... Buc's Mailbag Andrew Economos (is) as steady and dependable at they come at a specialized job that is generally only noticed when something goes wrong...if the cap hit is acceptable there is no need to look elsewhere for someone to fill that thankless role. It is also clear that he is respected in the locker room; it was Economos that called a players' meeting early last season. The same is true of linebacker Adam Hayward, who has been the team's special teams captain for the past two years. Hayward, Jonathan Casillas and Dekoda Watson– all set to be free agents – accounted for all eight starts at strongside linebacker for the Buccaneers this past year, and all three are strong on special teams as well. The strongside spot is generally not one at which the Buccaneers will break the bank – he is often the first player off the field when sub packages enter – but all three of those players can help you in a variety of ways, and none has hit his 30th birthday yet. I would like to see the team bring back at least two of them, if not all three. Bucs' free agents: Nos. 1-5 1. Adam Hayward, linebacker. As a linebacker, Hayward has limited value as a backup. But Hayward was the captain for Tampa Bay’s special teams last season. New coach Lovie Smith places a premium on special teams, so it would make a lot of sense to bring Hayward back. New Bucs Coach Has Decision To Make Concerning Unrestricted Free Agents One of the first things new coach Lovie Smith will have to do is to evaluate and decide what to do with the unrestricted free agents on Tampa Bay's roster. The Bucs have 19 players who are unrestricted free agents in 2014. While most of these players won't make a lot of money, the value against their play may not be worth it. Some should be no-brainers (Adam Hayward, Andrew Economos) when it comes to the team re-signing. And, to show it's not all daffodils and unicorns lol... Shiv
Thank you for posting this. I like this because I don't have to wade through 10000 posts in that FA thread.
Gibbs Hog Heaven
High character guy who'll be an invaluable leader on teams for the new ST coach. No problem with this for a few years or so. Hopefully Keenan develops in that time frame to similar. Hail.
bradboyd80
LOVE the fact that he is so highly regarded for special teams. Guess it goes without saying how badly we need that.
imissbobbyb
This is the kind of free agent that is not splashy but that is ok. Splashy has never won the redskins anything in any off season.
Larry
Let's hear it for relatively cheap, high character, special teams guys. - A guy who's only purchase of a Redskins authentic jersey was Rock Cartwright.
Year_of_The_Monk
Can't wait to see my man Hayward run down the field and take somebody's head off on ST. In his interview, he already talked about leading the ST to be a top 5 squad; I love that ambition! HTTR and welcome Hayward (we need you)

Dan T.
The biggest impact of this move might be that it gets Perry Riley off special teams. Perry Riley sucks at special teams.

Redskins Ruckus
This was a massively good deal. Our Front Office is not making headline news, but is really kicking butt. This is great for us. Welcome to the team!
Jumbo
We traditionally have had such specific threads for each FA/draft pick actually signed/made, once it's official. Unless no one cared enough about the guy.

He may even get better there. But save him a spot on the bench when the punt team is on the field.
