They couldn't afford to make another system. Yes, an economic decision. And yes, every system is sold at a loss. That is inconsequential to this topic. Companies make the money back over the years as the manufacturing of those systems is cheaper and off the games sold. Sega wasn't getting the return on investment by having a large player base to continue buying systems that were cheaper to manufacturer and games.

It was a good system I agree, but not profitable for Sega to continue supporting.

Exactly...which is why if you go back and look to articles from last year, it was discussed the MS may follow the same model. That's all I was saying. Personally I couldnt care less. I think both systems have their merit and place.

Just because all I currently own is a PS does not make me a fanboy...maybe you need to look the definition up.

False. I never said owning only one system made someone a fanboy, nice try. Some people just can't afford to have more than one and there is nothing wrong with that. It's the combination of owning one system AND believing outlandish theories about that system's competition that show sign of being a fanboy.

I do recall a few years ago when Microsoft was looking for a new CEO or whatever leadership position, one of the potential candidates wanted to sell off the XBOX brand.

The fact that potential candidate didn't get the job should be telling about where the company's goals are.

Fine, I take back the fanboy accusation. That fine for you? We still friends? Can I get a hug?

I'm not saying they're leaving the console business.  And that he didn't get the job doesn't really say anything about Microsoft's dedication to XBOX.  The company is much bigger than the XBOX brand.

This is true, s/he could've wanted to do something else that was also not in the company's wishes. But considering the new CEO has not stopped their business in the Xbox brand, but instead, hired a new Director to oversee it and moved the division in a better direction lends more credence to it.

IMO, I knew the Xbox one was never going to fully recover from it's disasterous launch and debut at E3. The gaming community and media rightly turned against them with their arrogant attitude and bad design of Xbox one. Using three OS with an underpowered GPU was a bad idea. On the other hand, Sony used that outrage against them despite planning on doing many of the same things( "always online" system). Everyone that worked on the launch of the Xbox One works elsewhere now. The new people in charge are hoping the Scorpio can outsell PS4 and PS Pro in the future. Something like that is going mean MS is, at the very least, dedicated the Xbox brand for the next 2-3 years.

PS needs to watch what they do very carefully. Honestly, from what I hear from people, PS4 pro has major issues that need to be fixed especially when it comes to VR.

I think the actual battle will be Scorpio vs PS's response to it.

What kind of issues? I've only heard that some games are having frame rate issues on it.

I still don't think they'll make another console or sku as a response to Scorpio. The console market isn't used to upgrading systems like they do cellphones. Coming out with a third PS so soon could meet with some backlash from the community. They have a great thing going with PS4, they should just continue to keep publishers happy and remind them who has double the install base and should be their bigger priority.

It's mainly a VR issue with the Pro. It bluescreens out and has audio drop outs. I have also heard mixed reviews about it.

I have also heard that PS won't release a new console and go for game streaming instead. But I tend to think that a year after Scorpio you will hear rumblings about a new PS.

Game streaming will suck. Anyone played the PSNow backwards compatibility streaming? It's not pleasant

Yeah, I heard it was bad. I didn't even bother because their pricing scheme was ridiculous. I like the way backwards compatibility is on the Xbox, if you still own the disc you can play it. That simple. If you owned it digitally, it'll just show up as a game to be installed.

I tried it out when it moved to the $5 per month for unlimited streaming but the catalog was limited. I have good internet and never really have issues and playing shadow of the collossus was basically like watching scrambled porn.

Xbox One's BC has been for the most part, excellent

Also, I think some gamers just find consoles cheaper and don't want to deal with the occasional bad ports( ex. Batman: Arkham Knight).

Well i agree with that, I was talking about choosing between consoles. PC ports have been getting better.

I feel PS has already fragmented too much. They can't have 3 different levels of console specs. Well, I guess they can but if you thought people were miffed with this 4.5 generation, they will really be pissed if another more powerful playstation comes in response to the Scorpio. I think they are pretty much stuck with what they got until next generation unless upgrading consoles becomes like upgrading your PCs parts and there are no more generations. Consoles cannot really do that because PCs will then slaughter them when people realize they can just get a baseline PC and upgrade it every couple years. My PC basically is a console as it is, it's hooked up HDMI to my TV, has an Xbox controller and can run in steams big picture mode and I only use it for gaming. I do all my other PC stuff with my iPad mini 4.

*Edit* I see others share this opinion as well.

I agree to  point, but..isn't MS doing the same thing? The have the XBOX one compared to the PS4. Then they have the XBONE S to the PS4 Pro. Now MS is releasing the Scorpio...with no PS equivalent.

So not counting the slims that are always released, what is the difference between PS releasing another and what MS is doing?

Honestly, I am seriously thinking about going back to PC gaming, especially if what I keep hearing is true regarding being able to use PSVR with a PC.

Isn't the XBone S basically an XBone with 4k Blu Ray?

The S is the slim edition Xbox One they just added 4K playback

the Scorpio and PS4 Pro are the competitors to each other

I believe it's specs are bumped up to. The PS4 pro is just the PS4 with bumped up specs.

this is what CNET says about that:
"Update 8/4/16: Several spec teardown reports have uncovered slight difference in the graphical hardware performance of Xbox One S. Specifically, Xbox One S has a small GPU clock increase of 914 MHz from 853 MHz and an ESRAM bandwidth increase of 219 GB/s from 204 GB/s. These bumps are only noticeable in-game in a small number of situations. In fact, they exist only as an bonus side effect of Microsoft ensuring HDR content performs without a hitch."

So it does seem to have an ever-so-slight bump in hardware that is barely worth mentioning.  I think the primary draw for the S is that it is the slim model and brings in 4k Blu Ray.  I mean, the S and Scorpio were announced at the same time, weren't they?

They also added support for HDR, I'll have to check the other additions.

Yeah, and the Pro is a an upgrade in processing speed from the original, but not the slim if what I read is correct

But it's marketed mostly as the slim edition by a .5 console upgrade.

The PS4 Pro isnt competing with the S it's competing with the Scorpio as the fully upgraded console

From everything I read, and these came from neutral sources, they put the Pro Vs. the S, not the Scorpio. Every article I read states the Scorpio is the next gen, and PS is waiting it out.

So honestly, I have no idea.
