BruinSkin
Never seen this forbath kicker....see the girlz nor the sucs thought he was better than current kickers, apparently. Forbath was injured last year, so he didn't have a shot at winning the job, obviously. Connor Barth is an excellent kicker (26 of 28 last year and 9 of 9 so far this year), so he didn't have a chance to beat out the entrenched starter. Barth is a known commodity and a proven one for the Bucs the past 4 seasons. Doesn't mean Forbath wouldn't be a great fit for us, however.
Gibbs Hog Heaven
I really like the prospect of Forbath the more I read on him. Seems we'd loses on kick-off's as he's not got the driving leg strength for many TB's, but we'd gain with a very accurate FG kicker who has the leg and accuracy over 50 too. And at 25, we may find a surprise long term answer. Here's hoping he works out as good as his college prospects were. Hail.
TheREALJBird
Forbath sounds like a winner to me, maybe he can prove to be solid and stick around for a while.
CRobi21
Who cares about kickoff length? You kick it in-bounds and Zo Alexander will demolish him. I too am liking the sounds of Forbath and Brown. Would prefer Forbath.
wilco_holland
Outside the blocked kicks Gano was pretty decent...but that would be some move by the front office. I don´t think they have the balls to admit they made a mistake.
Skins3000
I like Neil Rackers and John Kasay (even though they're old) I am screaming John Kasay name to the mountain tops especially over Olinde Mare
Laron Burgundy
I'd like to see Sam Swank given a shot. He was awesome in college, I always thought he deserved more of a chance in the pros. He was 9 of 12 on fg's over 50 yards. He also handled punts for Wake Forest and was voted team mvp for one of his years (how many kickers get honored with that?). UKskins
I've been a strong supporter of getting Gano back, as that doesn't seem likely to be happening, of the options that appear to be on the table, I'll take this Forbath kid over the veterans no-one else wants. Same reasons as Gano really, at least there's some upside to him, and with a veteran, we know they're on the way down and we'll have to replace them in a few years. If this Forbath kid is making FGs from the ranges talked about in here, then he can be coached up to smash touchbacks on Kick offs. He obviously has the leg strength to do it, just needs to work on technique, it's quite possibly something that could be coached into him. I honestly couldn't care less about kick offs at the moment anyway to be fair though, our Special Teams, especially Lorenzo are getting down the field and making the stops. I'd rather have automatic points on the board in the 40 than have the opposition starting on the 20 every time.

But what about the Coach we have, is he capable of coaching up a kicker?
hunterx
Brown would be OK with me if he's hired, but I'm agreeing with most everyone in this thread for Forbath. Franchise kicker to go along with the franchise QB. Let's be careful calling a free agent kicker a franchise answer at the spot You are probably just kidding around with it, but some people will read it and think that he is! I'm all for trying Kai out for the year. In the end, I think we need to get someone else in the offseason. I'm a fan of a few kickers in the draft, or going with some vet in the offseason. I'm not convinced he has the accuracy needed to be an NFL kicker between 45-52 yards. Nothing I read on his UCLA bio suggests that he does--or doesn't which could be more damning. skinzplay
Bringing in a young kicker like Forbath would be a disaster. Under Danny Smith, he will not develop. Smith is only good at coaching coverages....that's it. He does not know how to develop specialists, and that's been a less-than-subtle whisper around the league for years. If the team is going to bring in a kicker, it should be a veteran with an already-developed skill set. Smith will do too much damage to a young kicker. No_Pressure
Kai Forbath just so if he becomes half decent we can nickname him "Cobra Kai" and tell him to "sweep the leg".

If we sign the kid, I want our coaches no where near him. Our special team's coach has never had anythng but a negative influence on kickers. Look at their trendline from when they get here, to when they've played a bit with us, to what happens when they leave. They're always better before or after. After ten kickers that can't be a conincidence.
mojo
Its Tuesday morning. Why is cundiff still on the team? He's obviously lost it between the ears. Bring in rackers at the minimum. At least he can kick the gimmes.

Good enough not to lose games.

Maybe we'll get one that can coach Kickers. Regardless, I'll still take the young guy rather than the declining veteran kickers. A caveat though, didn't Gano actually improve year on year, if you take away the blocks which weren't his fault? HTTR
Skins Wingman
im not a big fan of the old veterans either. would rather take a chance on some young unknown maybe he will be a diamond in the rough. we need consistency not brining in vets every 1-2 years
Ghost of
They're always better before or after. After ten kickers that can't be a conincidence. I am tending to agree with you. There is also the possibility that some kickers we get simply when they aren't ready yet. Suisham was with Dallas first, right? Wasn't very good for us but then has gone on to secure a job. santana_4_prez
Man, this is frustrating. It should not be rocket science. We should always have a plan B ready to roll with a phone call...kind of like what San Diego does w/ Novak. He comes in and does the job.

I know that they tell them how to kick off and are responsible with blocking/coverage schemes. But I can't imagine that someone like Danny Smith really pulls aside our kickers and steps through the fundamentals of kicking FGs. Each kicker is so unique and (usually) quirky that it would seem to be a difficult task.

I don't know either but I would be shocked of they weren't coached on toot placement , timing, etc. given how micro they go into every other players mechanics I can't imagine kickers are not coached
