Thursday 8/2: Training Camp Tweets/Comments/What not

Recommended Posts

I wonder if Indy might have made a bad pick. :)

If RGIII is getting wall to wall TV commercials in say 3 years I will be excited as tha will denote he has been a big success on the field. Right now I could care less how many TV spots he has verus Luck and I doubt the Colts are worried either.

#Redskins training camp is a week old. Here's a breakdown of a standout at each offensive position: http://tinyurl.com/cxmvnj6

Quarterback: Robert Griffin III

I don’t list Griffin as the standout quarterback because he’s blown me away. He’s gotten better as camp has progressed and he’s had a couple of particularly strong practices. He still seems deliberate when carrying out fakes in the backfield, and there are times when I think he holds the ball too long, but his raw tools and athleticism are on display daily. He’s got the strongest arm of any of the Redskins’ passers and his blazing speed gets flashed multiple times a practice.

Running back: Alfred Morris

It should be noted that Morris is on this list ahead of Roy Helu and Evan Royster because I didn’t know much about him and had no idea what to expect from him. But the 2012 sixth-round draft pick out of Florida Atlantic has shown very well during the first week of training camp. Morris is a power-runner who stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 218-pounds, but his shiftiness in the open field is what has surprised me mos; he’s elusive and has quick feet for a big guy. He’s also run very decisively in practice, making one cut before getting up the field with aggression.

Wide receiver: Brandon Banks

I could have listed Pierre Garcon, Leonard Hankerson or Terrence Austin here and felt just fine about it. They’ve performed exceptionally well, too. But Banks has more to prove than any of those other wide receivers, considering that he made the Redskins each of the past two seasons exclusively as a return specialist.... He’s flashed each day in practice, using his quickness to beat bump coverage at the line of scrimmage and his speed to get open in the middle of the field.

Tight Ends: Nobody has separated themselves

No single tight end has been substantially better than the rest, but most of the key guys at the tight end spot have had their moments. Fred Davis and Niles Paul have both used their speed to get free down the field and Chris Cooley may be leading his tight end peers in receptions during 11-on-11 work, with most of his catches coming underneath.

Offensive line: Trent Williams

I can’t praise Trent Williams’ training camp efforts enough in this blog post. Frankly, he’s deserving of his own post. Watching Williams dominate one-on-one drills the past few days has been like watching Christopher Nolan direct a batman movie. Williams has had his way with whoever he’s matched up against, including both of the Redskins’ starting outside linebackers Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan.

Bowen says the DL is "like a family" says Jenkins is going to not skip a beat, and "that's the way u become great" to have same core

Mike Jones Mike Jones ‏@MikeJonesWaPo

Bowen says Jarvis Jenkins brings much-needed depth, and the #Redskins will be able to attack people in waves.

Redskins DE Stephen Bowen says he, Cofield and Carriker are playing with more confidence after playing together for a year.

I have a feeling that the fans are going to start a KC over RGIII thing in the future. I'am praying that this doesn't happened, but I do know how fickle this fanbase can be at times. If RGIII has a bad preseason, and KC lights up the scrubs, some wild fans will start it up. I know most of us have sense, but alot of us have none at the same time.

Kentwan balmer still not at #redskins park... Went missing while in san fran too in 2010 camp. Niners traded.

He better have a spectacularly good reason for being AWOL or he's done here, and probably out of the league.

Love what I'm reading about Trent Williams. For the #4 overall pick the guy has seemingly been underrated ever since he's been in the NFL. This year, if he plays as well as he's shown he can, there might only be 3 or 4 linemen better than him in the league.

what specific thing (news reports, tweets, etc) would make you have that feeling? I havent seen a single thing that would make me wonder that?

Is anyone else besides me don't want Austin to make the final roster? To me he's Taylor Jacobs Part II. He's always lighting it up in practice, but when he gets in "real" games (not preseason) he disappears. I'd rather Banks, Lewis, Briscoe or AA make the team before he does.

Darrel Young was bothered by the hamstring last season. Need to be careful w/ recovery. I don't expect to see him before 3rd preseason game.

Darrel Young said he tested his hamstring by "just running, got on the treadmill and walked a little bit." #Redskins

Did you watch the games he was in last season? He's not in my 6 WRs list but I still think the guy can play.

Me too. If he can stay on the field and be as solid as what seems so far, he can help alleviate some of the other potential OL issues. I hope that he has finally "gotten it" and can turn into the next Chris Samuels. A Pro bowl LT protecting RG3 for the next 8 years would be a welcome addition.

I like hearing that Cousins is picking things up. It can only be a good thing to have 2-3 guys who can run this offense.

For one thing, it means more of the WR's reps are quality reps with a QB that can run the offense. Whereas last season we had Grossman giving quality reps, and then Beck and Crompton as bleh. Hard for a WR to get better in practice when only some of the reps will actually be useful.

There is not one guy who I don't want to make the roster.

#redskins DE Stephen Bowen didn't like losing twice 2 dallas in '11. "It ate me up all year. I'm definitely looking forward to thanksgiving"

I know we're winless against Dallas on Thanksgiving, but I love that day (and the football associated with it) so much that I get butterflies when I remember we play the Cowboys on Thanksgiving this year. Imagine what a great weekend it will be if we win!
