DM72
I had to be around 7 (1980) when we first got cable. I still remember Burt Reynolds being on the cover of "TV Host" when we first got cable.

HogNose
Cable was available in some capacity around 1985 or so but my Dad figured NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, and Channel 5 & 20 ( DC stations) were all we needed. Rabbit ears and changing the channel without a remote went along with that. " Son, get up and change the channel". The first time I had cable TV was when I got to my duty station at Ft. Carson and that was in 1988. One person had the cable account, and the rest of us would splice the line and get our cable from him.

War Paint
I had it most of my life I believe. I remember having it when I was around 5 years old. I'm not sure if I had it before then or not. I can't remember. ---------- Post added January-14th-2012 at 02:44 PM ---------- You guys had cool parents..... Yeah, I was one that had cool parents. One of my friends didn't have cable. When he slept over at my house, watching HBO and such was like him going to Disneyland lol.
PCS
I believe it was an early version of cable wayyyyyyyy back in 1969-70 in Colorado Springs. I think we had to do the foil wrap flags,on arm in the air,one leg out to the side thing with antennas after that until 1982 when we moved in to the Van Dorn apartments. Good timing too, since MTV was still getting started.

Bubble Screen
You guys had cool parents.....We had cable pretty much my entire life. Parents got it as soon as it became available in our neighborhood. Cable, to me, is a must-have (if you are able to afford it).

SC_RedskinsFan
I think we got it in the late 80's so I was 8 or 9.
TheLongshot
I don't know exactly, but probably late 70s. My parents got it because reception was weak in our area, and they wanted PBS so that I could watch Sesame Street. I remember it simply being an A/B switchbox which you could switch between two different set of channels. It got a little more sophisticated when I moved to Chesapeake in '82. 88Comrade2000
My parents didn't get basic cable; at least what we know it to be as today until 1990. They had simple, simple cable with just the local channels, PBS, the Weather Channel. Ironically, we got some of the cable channels free for a little while before they came online in 1980 where I lived.

Captain Wiggles
Always had cable growing up. Which is really surprising cause my dad was really cheap about such things. I also remember my folks having a subscription to get new VHS movies in the mail. This was around 1984 when we lived in Va Beach. Damn I am OldS! hockeysc23
We've always had it as far back as I could remember but my wife a year younger's parents only got it when she was in college.
No_Pressure
I was 16, which was back in 2003. We're not big TV watchers. For the record my wife and I don't have it now. 50-60 dollars for cable, 50-60 dollars for cable internet? I get the internet and my parents let me set up a slingbox at their house. Solved our problems.
