renaissance
Just curious about average commute time as mine recently increased a ton. The poll is looking at total daily commute - so to and from work. Poll on the way.

MattFancy
I live a mile away from my office, so on a bad day, 5 minutes! And yes, I do walk sometimes when its nice
G.A.C.O.L.B.
45 minutes. Easy. To go about 20 miles.
Kilmer17
About 10 minutes. But in the winter, it takes about an hour and half to drive past a restaurant with an early bird special.
tone_dubbz
Va. Beach to Newport News, via HRBT. 40 miles there, 40 mile back. About 45 minutes getting to work, around an hour to get back home
renaissance
Takes me just over an hour each way. Up to 2 hours just to get home if I leave too late, or if it's raining. I can't wait for the full ICC to open next week!
Skins_Fan82
about 20 miles both ways, but it's all highway with a 70 MPH speed limit. And I get to work at 6:00 AM, so there's no traffic.
Corcaigh
About ten minutes each way, so I selected 30 total as the closest option..
Thiebear
Alexandria to Tysons: At 5am-5:25am its 25minutes to get there and back at 1-2pm. At 6am+ its an hour, after 2pm it adds 10mins coming back. Though with the new hybrid, traffic = no gas.

G.A.C.O.L.B.
I'm going Gainesville to Chantilly btw. Which is really nothing. But Manassas to Centreville, might be the single worst stretch on 66. Blows ass.

I had a job at an apple sauce factory out in Winchester. 12-hour shift, 5am to 5pm. When I got out and came home to Gainesville, I decided to see if I could make it work. Left the house at 3:30am. That lasted a whole two days.
Pick6
5 minutes on the metro and about a 10 minute walk to the office. More or less depending on the day. So both ways about 30 minutes.

Popeman38
3.5 miles each way, straight south on Loudoun County Parkway to work, straight north Loudoun County Parkway home. 15 minutes each way... ...unless some idiot, drunk 18 year old T-bones a poor lady driving to work at 60 MPH on the overpass causing every rescue squad, firetruck and police car within 50 miles to converge on said overpass, and two medivac choppers to land and evacuate both drivers. Then it takes and hour, because the overpass is the ONLY WAY OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD. Not that I can really complain
gchwood
I go from Purcellville to Reston. On a good day it can be 35 min, on a bad day 1 hour 30 min+, so I said an hour. ---------- Post added November-17th-2011 at 10:18 AM ---------- 3.5 miles each way, straight south on Loudoun County Parkway to work, straight north Loudoun County Parkway home. 15 minutes each way......unless some idiot, drunk 18 year old T-bones a poor lady driving to work at 60 MPH on the overpass causing every rescue squad, firetruck and police car within 50 miles to converge on said overpass, and two medivac choppers to land and evacuate both drivers. Ellis
About 1,000 feet.... roughly 1 minute. But as soon as my wife and I settle on this house... it'll be 20 miles one way. With traffic, about 45 minutes. Mon-Fri.

I was "lucky" in a sense to land a fairly high paying job to at least help off set the fuel expense. I'm getting more accustomed to the commute now, its been about a year and a half so far. They also let me telecommute one day a week and whenever we face poor driving conditions. Its not perfect, but it works somewhat for now. I also use the drive home time to either do conference calls or to have some great conversation time with my Mom.
TheLongshot
Just started a new job and it is 45 minutes, which is the worst commute I've had since I moved out of my parents place. Back then I was commuting from Frederick and going to Fairfax. Not fun.
