Police have shut down several roads around the Pentagon after a suspicious vehicle was discovered along Washington Boulevard.

Pentagon police reportedly took one person into custody when a "suspicious device" was found in his car, according to NBC News Pentagon correspondent Jim Miklaszewski.

Police are searching for one, possibly two more people who fled the scene on foot when police stopped the vehicle.

Officials said the suspicious vehicle is in some bushes off of the road. Sources said it might be linked to another Arlington Police investigation.

Officials say the closures will affect the morning rush hour.

Although it was not immediately clear what the device was, one official told NBC News that "it looks like a bomb."

Dude, I got stuck in this traffic for a little over an hour. All exits to arlington were closed, so everyone and their mother had to go into DC. That being said, I'll gladly get stuck in traffic as opposed to these shmucks getting away with whatever they were doing.

Just watched the news conference, this is a HUGE mess.

There really not giving much info, an individual was taken into custody for being in Arlington Cemetary after dark, it closes at dusk.

During the course of questioning they felt it was necessary to search for a vehicle. They located a vehicle in close proximity to the Pentagon

which is what started all of this.

They did not confirm the presence of a "suspicious package"

They did not confirm that the bomb squad had detonated a package

They did not confirm any other suspects were thought to be involved

It appears that business is running at a normal pace in the Pentagon

The only time frame for opening roads and I quote "when it's safe".

Next press conference is scheduled for 9:30am

Yup, they essentially said nothing. The press repsectfully tried to get a few more details. The spokesman respectfully deferred. Both sides did their job. Honestly, we know what we should at this point.

I would take this with a grain of salt at this point

Al Qaeda-related statements, backpack found in suspicious vehicle stopped near Pentagon

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Authorities found al Qaeda-related statements, a backpack containing ammonium nitrate, and spent 9mm shells Friday after stopping a suspicious vehicle close to the Pentagon and arresting a man, ABC's "Good Morning America" reported.

Pentagon Police arrested one person Friday and closed several roads around the US Department of Defense headquarters after officers stopped a suspicious vehicle and discovered a backpack believed to contain ammonium nitrate, FOX News Channel reported.

The vehicle was stopped about 6:00am local time Friday. Police were searching for one, or possibly two, other people who fled the vehicle when it was stopped by police, local news channel WRC-TV reported.

9:30 press conference notes:

Found red 2011 Nissan, no suspicious package in vehicle.

Searched suspect's backpack and found non-explosive products in bags. Further analysis is needed to identify, more details to follow.

Individual acted alone. No charges have been filed.

Opening roads as quickly as possible , still no timeframe.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At this point not much new to report, glad everyone is safe and the threat is neutralized.
