If you trade Wall then you need to start over.  Beal is not good enough to be the #1 for a contender.  We'd just stay stuck in 45 win purgatory, spinning our wheels until Beal fell out of favor next.  We'd be further away than ever from bringing in another AS who can compete within the same window as Beal in order for make the leap to the same echelon as Toronto/Milwaukee/Boston/Philly.  Those rosters go ten deep in quality too.  How do we get there?  Pray that we somehow get Zion and he is insanely good immediately in his career?

We need to be realistic, dealing Wall means a full rebuild is necessary.  If we didn't tear it all of the way down, and decided to just try to run John out of town, blame him for everything, and retool around Beal and a couple of role players, then we're going to be having this exact same conversation about him in four years that we're currently having about Wall.

What do you think the Wiz could get in return for Wall?

Wall isn’t good enough to be the #1 on a contender.  If he was we’d have seen it by now.  With him as the best player, the team never won 50 games.  Wall hasn’t even shot .400 or better from the field in a second round playoff series, and only twice in the first round.  That’s your #1 option on a title contender?  I don’t see it.   I love Wall, but I’d love him a lot more as the 3rd option.  He doesn’t have the scoring tools to be the #1 option in this era.

Wall at his best was better than Beal, but how often can Wall be predicted to be at his best going forward?  What’s his average game look like now and for how long can he maintain it?  At the end of this season he’ll have played in just 73 games in two seasons.  I have serious concerns about pinning my hopes on an highly paid often injured point guard leading a broken locker room.  It feels like I’ve already seen this movie and the ending sucks.

Beal has a smaller contract, is younger, and has been far healthier lately.  He also shows up in great shape at the start of the season, which shouldn’t be an issue but sadly has become one.  If we’re picking one of our current guys to keep and hopefully pair with another star in the future, Beal is that guy.  He fits any offense, can play next to any kind of player, and he’s only getting better.  There’s a reason he has the most trade value, and that reason is because other teams would rather have him than Wall right now.

I'm not 100% sure. Lets say we trade Wall and get some cap relief and young assets, and land a stud in the draft(we'll probably have a high lotto pick). I think that puts us in a better position long term then relying on a now injury prone and soon to be 30 year old John Wall.

Lead has shrunk to 1.  Might steal this one.

Yeah crazy how they were down by 8 like a minute ago and now down by 1.  Beal with a 3, then Porter, then Beal again.

It was really weird getting home today at 4pm and watching the second quarter of a Wizards game.

This franchise is a joke.

Hey the owner himself said today the plan has always been to "get into the playoffs, get passed the 2nd round, and try to get lucky."

Does that not sound like a winning formula to you?!

To be fair, this is the first year we’ve had to wonder what eastern conference team would be in the finals since 2011.  Since then, get past the second round and hope to get lucky was every team’s plan.  Ted knows this team isn’t a contender, but maybe he’s hoping these guys can prove something to themselves by making a playoff run without Wall.
