Marilyn Manson Loses His Makeup, Gains a Mullet

bca65a8d.jpg

Believe it or not, the mullet-wearing man in this photo is actually controversial shock-rocker and performance artist Marilyn Manson.

The 41-year-old (real name: Brian Warner) is rarely seen without his goth-like heavy white makeup, black-rimmed eyes, and red lips, so why is he sporting such a distinctly all-American look in this photo?

According to Interview magazine's website, which published the photo, it's because Manson is a huge fan of a certain TV show.

Interview reports that Manson is a "diehard" fan of HBO's "Eastbound & Down," the critically worshiped comedy starring Danny McBride as a washed-up former baseball star whose trademark mullet and angry face Manson is imitating in this photo.

[Another buzzy photo Venus Williams' distracting dress]

Interview's reporter Hunter Stephenson was intrigued when he found out from "Eastbound" creators that Manson is "obsessed" with the show and its sporting protagonist, Kenny Powers. So he asked a director currently working with Manson about it.

"Whenever I see Manson, he's repeating entire chunks of dialogue and dressed like Kenny," Adam Bhala Lough, who's directing Manson in the upcoming film "Splatter Sisters," told Interview. Lough went on to say that Manson dresses like "Eastbound" character Kenny Powers all the time, and provided this photo, credited to Manson himself, as "evidence."

While it's completely believable that Manson would be a fan of the hilarious "Eastbound" -- despite his freakish exterior, Manson does have a decent sense of humor -- it's also worth noting that "Eastbound & Down" co-director David Gordon Green is also producing "Splatter Sisters." Hmmm.

"Eastbound & Down" begins its second season September 26, and "Splatter Sisters" (which co-stars Manson's on-again, off-again flame, Evan Rachel Wood) is due out next year.

So many people freaked out about him and his make-up I guess they didn't see it for what it was, an act. meh... He'll just be another footnote in the pop culture history books, he brought nothing of note to the table to better the art, instead he was there to shock sensibilities...:yawnee: Been there, seen that...

The guy is a huge dork.

That's a pretty good Kenny Powers impersonation though.

Yeah, and at least Alice Cooper was somewhat original....somewhat. But you're right, MM act was just a rebranding of Cooper's 70's act.

Cooper could actually sing, too.

Don't know about MM. Never heard a second of his, stuff.

Hahahaha, awesome.

I love old school alice cooper but Marlyn manson does have talent.

If you like angry music there isnt much better for psych up tunes than beautiful people, his remake of sweet dreams is pretty damn good and his remake of tainted love is amazing (the video is pretty hot.)

I met him once early in this decade, there was a rumour that he was the big nosed kid from the wonder years. he was on tour in edmonton and we had a nightclub called the morgue (used to actually be a morgue) and of course he was there hanging out. one of my buddies bet me a beer that I wouldnt ask him if it was true. I walked up and asked, he laughed and said " I don't know how that bull**** got started but no I am not." He seemed like a pretty decent guy TBH.

we need some of the old guys to come chime in about the "devils music" to really make this thread.

I would expect everything in his house to be painted black. The bright white bathroom with stars in the shower and orange bottle of shampoo definitely was a surprise.
there's a video of an interview he did with bill o'riley a while back, that actually shows some insight into him as an individual. Without saying it directly, he implied he was very aware that he was just an act and was peddling a product.

I mean, how could anyone see his **** and conclude that he is anything original or genuine?

Only dumb teenagers fall for that. I hope too many of them don't get depressed when they find out he's just a businessman trying to sell records. :pfft:

Marilyn Manson is a product of Trent Rezznor.

Yep. Manson saw that Reznor was touching a nerve with Nine Inch Nails, and he said "I'm gonna get me some of that action. All I have to do is add some costuming."

The fact that Manson doesn't have Reznor's talent is immaterial (but I admit that "Beautiful People" was a good song, even if the video is a ripoff of NiN's "Closer").

no...Trent Rezznor produced MM....not as a copy cat..Trent had a hand in the creation. They then had some falling out and now Trent Rezznor has no ties to MM
