White House Loses Bid to Exclude Fox News From Pay Czar Interview

I don't feel bad for them at all... I'm sure there were some bloggers who got shot down too, as well as some opinion columnists who wanted to be there.

Not every member of the press gets invited. I'm sure they reviewed the press credentials of FoxNews and decided that they didn't have any worth being involved.

I watch Fox fairly often and I am constantly amazed at all the ex Bush people who now act as "fox contributors" talking about the current admin. Really, fair and balanced?

Actual news?? A large part of the programming is GOP propaganda...Hannity? Beck? Carl Rove? Ann Coulter etc. etc. Lies, half lies and gross distortions run a muck. I know this because I get my news from other sources so I know when they are, in many cases, just making stuff up...

And to be fair and balance MSNBC is almost as bad... The mud slinging on both sides is sometimes amusing but when you're claiming fair and balance and are also claiming to be NEWS, it's sad really.....

This didnt seem to be exclusion of individuals, it was proposed exclusion of the entire network. HUGE difference and a huge mistake.

Looks like even moderate Dems are saying it's a mistake too.

The "well your guy did it first!" took longer to make an appearance than I would have thought

I didn't excuse what the Obama administration is doing. What it is doing is simply wrong. That said, it's kind of ridiculous that people are acting as though it's unprecedented. It's even more ridiculous for people to say that we are starting to resemble an African country where the enemy is "eliminated."

Which entire network did any of our previous presidents go after as a whole again?

It wasn't so much one network that the Bush admin at times blacklisted as much as the media in general. No one knew what the hell was going on inside those walls.

That being said, this is just another clip of ammo for FOX. Doesn't look too good for the WH. Why not just let Fox reporters in and welcome any questions that have to do with executives not getting paid their normal bloated salaries when the only reason they have a job is because of the American tax payer? The real problem would be if they are not confident their man can answer all the questions in a persuasive fashion. And that would be their fault.

Now this is the story instead of Feinberg.

The WH needs to go on Fox and treat them like they need to be treated--like a mentally unstable person. Fox is beyond a joke at this point and giving them more press like this doesn't help anyone except the tools over @ Fox.

I've never understood the hate for Fox around here. Not like hearing the other side's views?

They need to do better than "we don't like you" if they are to exclude mainstream media.

I don't think there is anything constitutionally worng with it, and I don't even think they "need" too better than "we don't like you" if they are to exclude media.

In the end though, they are just screwing themselves, they are making them look like unprecedented transparency only applies if they have a secrete agreement not to bring up X, Y, and Z

You can't be serious? Never before has a cable news network been excluded from covering the administration. NEVER. Additionally, which political party, if given the opportunity, would not jump at the chance to eradicate the other from the political process? Look at how divided this message board is! 33% of the posters dismiss anything a Dem says as "DNC talking points". 33% of the posters dismiss anything a Rep says as "GOP talking points". Fox News is treated worse than the Huffington Post.

And nice play on my words. I said the winning party tries to eliminate the opposition, not the enemy. Freudian slip, perhaps?

An FYI-

Robert (Bob) Bauer, the top lawyer for the Democratic National Committee and personal lawyer to President Obama and his chief campaign counsel, is emerging as the top candidate to replace Greg Craig as White House Counsel, Fox News has learned.

Senior White House officials declined to comment on Bauer's future status with the White House. But Democrats close to the situation said Bauer is under serious consideration as Craig's replacement. Craig is expected to leave the White House by year's end - if not sooner.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said no decisions have been made on Craig's future or on any potential replacement.

Here is Wikipedia on the job:

Bauer is married to White House Communications Director Anita Dunn. Dunn is also expected to leave the White House by year's end. Unlike Craig, Dunn's departure was understood when she took the communications post on an interim basis in late April. Dunn replaced Ellen Moran, Obama's first communications director, who resigned on April 21 to become Chief of Staff at the Commerce Department.

Dunn declined to comment on any role her husband's might play in the Obama White House.

Dunn also served as a top campaign adviser to Obama's presidential campaign. During the campaign, Bauer played a significant role in Obama's decision to forgo general election spending limits, allowing him to vastly outraise and outspend Republican rival John McCain.

Bauer is highly regarded in Democratic circles as a tenacious and brilliant lawyer with an expertise in election law and the convergence of law and politics. In addition to his current work for the DNC and his role as general counsel to Obama's presidential campaign, Bauer has also been counsel to the Democrats' national Senate and House campaign committees. He was also chief outside counsel to Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle during the impeachment trial of President Clinton and counsel to New Jersey Sen. Bill Bradley's presidential campaign.

Bauer is currently chair of the Political Law Group at the Washington law firm of Perkins Cole LLP. He was graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1973 and received his law degree in 1976 from the University of Virginia.

Here is a recent Washington Post profile of Bauer:

In October 2008, the Huffington Post and the American Bar Association speculated that Bauer could be Obama's first White House Counsel.

During the summer heat of the 2008 campaign, Bauer clashed with McCain's campaign about talks over rejecting public financing for the general election.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Now, how is the press free if the government they are supposed to be covering excludes them from any news coverage? I will give you that the White House is not Congress, and did not in fact try to make a law excluding Fox. But bases on precedence from the courts on this issue, I think we can all agree that an action of this magnitude would constitute an affront of the 1st Amendment.

Just to play contrarian a little bit, in a way FOX did do this to themselves. By always taking the most negative view, by almost always spinning things within a micrometer of slander, and frequently outright lying you got to realize that you won't be making many friends. By having their analysts frequently paint the President of the United States as the enemy, as a racist, as a socialist monster bent on destroying everything American, as a monster so vile that he is unfit to even address school children... I certainly can imagine the WH saying, "Who needs these bums! We're never going to get a fair shake out of them anyway!"

Afterall, who wants to invite the class brat to your birthday party?

LOL Took you long enough to turn it around. What a piece of work you are. You fit the mold of a leftist zealot perfectly. When does your subscription to the Nation renew?
