White House Loses Bid to Exclude Fox News From Pay Czar Interview

I guess it is no secret that I prefer FOX over the other organizations, but I really don't see where the administration did anything wrong. Don't we have freedom OF the press and not FROM the press? Just saying.

However, I can see where the administration committed a faux pas here and this always happens in each presidency. Eventually, they learn to give in and let the press corps do their jobs - as it should be. The problem with GWB was that his aides did it for eight years and that was a huge mistake.

The current admin would be wise to relent and let the entire press corps do their jobs. They don't have to like it, but it's better than taking time and energy away from their actual goals and objectives. Fighting with certain segments of the press is a no-win proposition 100% of the time. And yes, I include talk radio in this equation - even Pres. Clinton learned to simply ignore this segment of the press and it worked to a certain degree.

Not according to the WH :evilg:

I just thought it was a funny Freudian slip that he automatically associated Fox News with the GOP, which is really even funnier because it just goes to prove the whole point about Fox in that they aren't a news organization but instead a GOP party mouth-piece. Its nice to see that people recognize this even if it is just at the subconscious level.

honestly doees this surprise anyone?

Me.

I'm very much surprised by the way they are handling this. I have no problem with WH taking proper, effective action to help expose the alternative universe created by Fox, but this aint it.

Just to play contrarian a little bit, in a way FOX did do this to themselves. By always taking the most negative view, by almost always spinning things within a micrometer of slander, and frequently outright lying you got to realize that you won't be making many friends. By having their analysts frequently paint the President of the United States as the enemy, as a racist, as a socialist monster bent on destroying everything American, as a monster so vile that he is unfit to even address school children... I certainly can imagine the WH saying, "Who needs these bums! We're never going to get a fair shake out of them anyway!"

Afterall, who wants to invite the class brat to your birthday party?

Burgold, couldn't Bush have used the same logic to only invite Fox News to cover his admin? CNN, MSNBC smeared the Bush admin at every opportunity. What the Obama White House is complaining about Fox for doing, Olbermann was doing for 4 years. What would the reaction have been like if Bush attempted to ban MSNBC?

I agree with everything after the first comma.

I get an impression that at this point Fox is not the mouthpiece of GOP, but the GOP is the voting piece of Fox. The party has been marching to the drumbeat so long that the drumbeat is now marching the party... at least that's my impression.

Ahh but see they didn't smear him they simply told what was going on, if that truth happened to not look good for the President don't blame the press blame the President. Fox on the other hand started against Obama before day one, its pretty hard to find fault with a President before he even took office and yet lo' and behold Fox "News" managed to do just that.

So, when did Bush freeze out NBC? You know, the parent company of MSNBC? Fox has no such parent network. And the interview stated very clearly that the "over the last couple months, we didn't do much with MSNBC". Not doing much is vastly different than barring them from participating.

She just admitted to you that they froze out MSNBC and now you are going to argue with her? Parent company or not they are not the same thing. GE is the parent company of lots of things, they make trains and tv's so I guess tv's and trains are the same. Sorry mate but don't argue with Dana when she tells you that the Bush Admin did the same thing to MSNBC and yet complain when Obama calls Fox out for not being news.

SHE JUST SAID THAT THEY DID NOT DO MUCH WITH THEM THE LAST FEW MONTHS. That, in and of itself, denotes that they in fact did something with MSNBC. Again, if MSNBC was allowed to attend the press conferences and ask questions they were included. What Obama's admin proposed was to not allow Fox to participate.
The Obama administration on Thursday tried to make "pay czar" Kenneth Feinberg available for interviews to every member of the White House pool except Fox News.

Look at the clip again she did not say what you claim and the Bush admin did not do what BO and his admin are doing now. Not even close to being the same. Your equivalency position is incorrect.

Either that our she's just understating what they really did in order to save face and not come across like a complete hypocrite.

Fox is not news, and until they reform what they are then why should they be allowed to be in the PRESS room?

Her exact words when discussing MSNBC:
...well, towards the end we didn't do alot with MSNBC, that is for.....{talked over by Fox'n Friends}
I am not claiming that Bush handled the media well. I am claiming that what Obama is doing is in direct contrast to what was promised when elected. Read my first post in this thread to see where I stand.

Go back and read my first post in this thread. Your position on this would please the DNC greatly.

MSNBC is a shining light of reason, fairness, and balanced coverage. Fox is a bunch of extremists who are trying to destroy America.

How does that sound? Well, actually, that sounds like a Fox segment with "MSNBC" instead of "Fox", and "Fox" instead of "Obama administration".

I'd like to point out that administration's issues with Fox are quite legitimate. I do not agree with their actions here. I think that a head-on approach would be a better way to handle this, for example. Remember Obama on the O'Reilly's show?
