The Chad Ochocinco Thread

I love this quote from Merriman, on Chad :

""It's like a little kid, you hold out your hand and you hold their head, and they swing, you know, and they can't do anything. It's one of those things."

"Bring it on': Ochocinco says he'd like a piece of Merriman

Associated Press

SAN DIEGO -- Chad Ochocinco wants to fight Shawne Merriman.

Merriman says that if anything happens between the two star players Sunday, it will be just like his nickname: Lights Out.

Ochocinco, the unpredictable Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver, went off about the Chargers' outside linebacker during a conference call with San Diego reporters Wednesday. The Chargers (10-3) will play host to the Bengals (9-4) on Sunday in a meeting of division leaders, with the winner securing a playoff spot.

Ochocinco and Merriman ran some smack against each other during a Twitter exchange earlier this year. They apparently have a history going back to 2006 when Ochocinco, then known as Chad Johnson, mockingly did Merriman's spasmodic "Lights Out" sack dance after scoring against San Diego in a game at Cincinnati. Merriman wasn't even in the stadium; he was serving a four-game suspension for testing positive for steroids.

Ochocinco went off when asked if their Twitter exchange was in fun.

"I will beat Shawne's head in, right now," he said. "It's not even fun. This is not in fun. This is personal. Bring it on. It is what it is. I think he might be one of the only people I don't really get along with. I want to fight. I'm not sure how to get the fight on without him suing me."

How did this happen?

"I don't know," Ochocinco said. "You just have somebody that, like, you have the itch, you just want to fight? That's what it's come to. I just want to fight."

And when did this start?

"I think back when we played last time," Ochocinco continued. "I can't remember. I don't know. You know what, I think I copied his dance after I scored, and I think it pissed him off."

Ochocinco is 6-foot-1, 192 pounds. Merriman is 6-4, 265.

Asked if Merriman would be a tough guy to fight, Ochocinco said: "Tough? Why? That's not how I look at things. I'll whoop his ass, right now, like Will Ferrell. Yeah, like in `Step Brothers.'"

Merriman sent Ochocino a twitpic of the two players' faces superimposed over those of actors Ferrell and John C. Reilly in an advertisement for the movie "Step Brothers" with the message, "see u sunday."

"I'm not going to really explain the seriousness of it or where it's at or how serious it is because we're a few days away from Sunday," Merriman said.

NFL RedZone

Watching football on Sundays will be a whole new experience with NFL Network's new channel, NFL RedZone. Find out why.

What kind of fight would it be?

"It would be a joke, man," Merriman said. "It's like a little kid, you hold out your hand and you hold their head, and they swing, you know, and they can't do anything. It's one of those things."

Merriman mentioned the 2006 game when Ochocinco did the "Lights Out" dance.

"Coming from him, disrespect," Merriman said.

The Chargers rallied that day with 42 points in the second half to beat the Bengals 49-41. Ochocinco set a team record with 260 receiving yards and two long touchdowns.

Merriman jokingly wondered if he could play cornerback against Ochocinco. The two are sure to meet up sometime on the field.

"I'll get him at some point," Merriman said. "It's going to be a good game all around. I don't want to make this Ocho's deal at all because it's not. He's just running his mouth, I guess. But because of our position and this opportunity we put ourselves back into, I think it's going to be a heck of a battle."

Whatever happens, Merriman said it won't be serious enough to attract NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's attention.

"Roger has nothing to worry about in this case," Merriman said. "I'll keep it legal -- as possible."

Earlier this month, the NFL fined Ochocinco $30,000 after he briefly donned a mock poncho and a sombrero next to the bench following his touchdown catch during a 23-13 victory over the Detroit Lions. That's $10,000 more than the fine he received for pretending to bribe an official during a game earlier this season.

Further proof that Ocho is a complete clown. lol Btw, I loved the comment from Shawn about holding his head, and him just swinging That's definitely how that fight would go. Only Shawn would probably end it with ONE punch. lol Seriously, can Chad be any MORE dumber?

I think the whole "fight" thing is an act.

Just another ploy for Chad to get media attention.

Not many players spoke in the locker room, but receiver Chad Ochocinco was the most broken up and emotional. He had tears in his eyes as he spoke about the five-year player and said that he had spoken to Henry Tuesday night.

“My grandma always says you never question the man upstairs on decisions he makes,” Ochocinco said. “Everyone makes mistakes, but … I don’t see how Chris was supposed to go already, especially when he was on the right path. Other than that, he’s going to be missed.”

Was quite sad to see Ocho speaking about Henry.

It seems like the Bengals saw Chris the same way that the Redskins and we saw Sean at the time of his death, which was a lot different than the typical outsiders' perspective.

I just saw Ochocinco, Palmer, and a few others on NFL Network talking about him....it's really tough to watch those guys go through this.

....they also just said that Ochocinco was wearing Henry's #15 at practice today :(

I wish they'd let Chad wear Henry's jersey Sunday. Come on, Goodell. It's one game. It's a shame they won't let him. Hopefully he wears it under his jersey or something.
Wait, Goodell would fine Ocho for that? Seriously?

Then again, Ryan Clark got fined for having 21 on his eyeblack :doh:

a facebook friend of mine and former classmate that lives in SD posted this on facebook this morning:

says I get up this morning @ 0500 to go have an early breakfast meeting with my team to talk about our final presentation for the class I am finishing today. And what do I see @ Denny's? Chad Ocho-Cinco having breakfast with a bunch of Bengals fans."

I know he is brash, but he is a good guy.

I'd not be surprised if he has a big game tomorrow.

Just read on ESPN.com that the NFLPA cannot pay the fine if Ochocinco gets one for wearing number 15. Goodell needs to be smacked

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4756880

Guys, this is no different than when Taylor died. Didn't Portis want to do the same thing? Rules are rules. Its a nice gesture. But you have to set boundaries. There are other ways he can honor him. You think Ocho is the only guy in that locker room that would like to wear #15? And I know some people are gonna bash me for saying all this. But once again, I think Goodell got it right.

:slap:

Rules are rules, but some rules are stupid.

When Unitas died, Peyton only wanted to wear black high tops, like Johnny used to wear. And Goodell, or whoever was in charge then (I forget), wouldn't let him do it. It went against the uniform code. I give the NFL credit for standing by their guns. Again, other players in that locker room would probably want to wear his jersey, too. Where do you draw the line? Then there were several teammates of Taylor's on the Redskins when he died. Don't you think all of them would have wanted to wear Taylor's jersey after he died? I think some of you just like to find something to moan about.
