Hooper
http://www.apple.com/trailers/magnolia/outrage/ Anyone seen this or read about it? It apparently outs some pretty well-known politicians, like Florida Governor Charlie Crist and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. None of this is a surprise to folks on Capitol Hill, and the point of the documentary is to point out the hypocrisy of homosexuals voting against gay rights, but I don't know... something about it seems wrong. Definitely gonna check it out though -- Kirby Dick is a fantastic filmmaker.
ACW
I agree with the purpose of this movie. If politicians are closeted, fine, but if they're hypocritical about it, all bets are off :2cents:
Cooked Crack
There are politicians on the down low but I'm not going to take people's words as truth. For me to care there better be some wide stance type proof here. It's pretty much gossip flick if not. (though I will say I got my own suspicions)

Definitely gonna check it out though -- Kirby Dick is a fantastic filmmaker. It's hard to feel much compassion for those folks, but it seems pretty distasteful for a movie to out politicians just because the filmmaker doesn't like the way they vote. It's not uncommon for people in the public eye (musicians, actors, politicians, etc.) to keep their sexuality to themselves for their own personal reasons and frankly I don't think it's any of my business. It doesn't change the way they vote, so it SHOULD be irrelevant to their constituents. McConnell isn't there to vote in ways that benefit him personally (in theory anyway), he's there to represent his community. And if they're anti-gay rights, and he votes consistently with that despite his personal homosexuality, is that all it takes to make him a hypocrite? I don't think so. He's there to represent their interests and that's exactly what he's doing. The exception is when they start doing amoral things because of the combination of their family, political careers and sexuality. I don't think homosexuality is amoral, but cheating on your spouse (with a man, woman or prostitute), soliciting public sex from strangers in airport bathrooms, etc. is not cool. NavyDave
The good thing is that The governor of Florida Charlie Crist is a moderate who blindly voted for the President's Stimulus plan and was part of the push to have Moderates in control of the 2010 elections as the face of the new GOP. I applaud this move since it helps us weed my party of liberals and moderates and hopefully removing a potential Senator with Souter like results from our ranks. If politicians are closeted, fine, but if they're hypocritical about it, all bets are off :2cents: Define hypocritical about it...is it simply voting against their own interests or the gay agenda? Don't know about you but I elect representatives to represent MY views and vote accordingly....despite their own proclivities or feelings. They may exercise personal feelings when I don't express my preference. I think the outings for political gain are hypocrisy myself

I think the outings for political gain are hypocrisy myself I think the larger point may be made here that just because a person is gay that it means they automatically have to vote in favor of things like gay unions. They don't have to. I don't think that's hypocrisy. Now if you hear them saying being gay is immoral, then being outed, that is hypocrisy.
Thiebear
So Being a Christian and NOT VOTING lock step means your doing it out of professionalism. So Being a Homosexual and NOT VOTING lock step means your outed? Nice: Ugh.

Nice: Ugh. I think their main point is not on the voting records, though it is a part of it. Instead the bigger point is how many of these people use rhetoric such as “homosexuality is an immoral sin, unnatural, and an abomination” to GAIN power by manipulating constituents all while being a closeted gay person. In my opinion, to them it is all about the drug of power. They use this rhetoric to gain power by any means necessary. I think it is FINE for a closeted gay man to vote against gay rights to represent their constituents, I think it is another to manipulate voters though. McD5
Kirby Dick :hysterical: Maybe someone should do a documentary on his life. Detailing any arrests, and any drug use or sexual diseases. What a tool.

jnhay
Wow, that trailer makes me mad. If they're gay, so what? "They're against gay rights." Why can't a gay man be against gay marriage and gay adoption? They're not hypocrites, considering they aren't married to men and they haven't adopted a baby with their boyfriends. Outing these politicians is just low, and disgusting. If they wanted to come out they'd do it. Just because you disagree with them doesn't mean you should run their personal lives. Burgold
None of our business. I do think that if they are denouncing homosexuality as a perverse lifestyle and they are gay that's a problem. Otherwise, I really don't care who they fall in love with or what they do concentually in a bedroom.

Ford
1) It's none of our damn business whether or not these guys are gay, I don't care if they are elected officials. 2) Why is it assumed that their sexual preferences should guide their legislative agenda on gay issues? How is it hypocritical if they don't support issues deemed as essential to gay rights as others? Maybe they freaking disagree... I support gay marriage, but I feel no outrage toward homosexual legislators who have different views on the subject..

I have no clue what they've done as far as denouncing homosexuality. Oh, I have no idea if they have or haven't. I was just stating the one condition that might make me care about whether they were gay, straight, bi, or necropheliac. As far as I know these guys are all completely intellectually consistant (well, as consistant as politicians can be), and simply choose not to talk about what they do in their bedroom which is absolutely fine with me. As long as no one is being hurt or abused I really don't care about a Congressman's sexual preference.
