PiLfan
some great ones have already been posted. here's my favorite from Fleetwood Mac...not sure why i like it so much, but it's definitely one of my all time favorites. very surreal. also, while i could never quite get into Pink Floyd's "Atom Earth Mother", how can you not love a cover that's nothing but a cow's ass? China
There are others such as Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers, with the actual zipper: How about the brown bag on Led Zeppelin's In Throught the Out Door that if you wiped with a wet brush would become colored to go along with the inner artwork
TheLongshot
I think we should also talk about the guys who do these covers. For example, where would Rush be without Hugh Syme's visual puns? And one non-Rush cover: Tiles - Window Dressing Course, where would Yes or Asia be without Roger Dean's strange landscapes? I have a signed print of this hanging in my house. Course, one of my favorites of his is a non-Yes album by Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic Jason

BG
I second the Vulgar Display choice. Love that cover, it does let you know exactly what you are getting into. Sick... You have to put Wish you were here in there:

81artmonk
Not really the best or my favorite, but the group deserves mention for their covers. I always thought they had some really kick-A@@ covers, but the music didn't match the covers.
Jumbo
Not really the best or my favorite, but the group deserves mention for their covers. You probably already know this, but that artist, Frank Frazetta, made a big name back in the day doing paperback book covers for the Conan series published by Lancer. He also did a series of posters that were big sellers back then (60's-70's). He did comics even earlier, but in a different style.
