Spaceman Spiff
Ran up to the store tonight to get a few things. I go inside and there are two guys standing behind a little booth handing out free copies of todays Washington Post. When they asked me if I wanted one I kinda laughed and asked "Is the post hurting this bad that you're trying to drum up business this way?" One of them laughed and said yeah. He seemed pretty embarrased. He asked me if I subscribed and I told him no, I get my news online. Is the Post hurting that bad? I know people are turning to the internet for news now more than ever...Just odd to see that one major DC establishment may be on the decline... Anyone know anything about this? heyholetsgogrant
Washington Times, New York Times, Baltimore Sun etc, are all losing money. It kinda hurts when your lead/breaking story is talked about a day before it comes out. -Grant
skinfan2k
i get the entire week for only 1.50 but now theyre running a special for the entire week or sundays for only 77 cents.. my parents get the paper just for the sunday circular and what not
Thiebear
If they switched to real stories and IN-DEPTH reporting they would kick back in again. The lack of details and pushing forth so FAST you have to fix it 4 times makes the cable channels lame.

I can buy the Swimsuit Issue when it comes out, but their sports stories are old when you receive the issue.
Midnight Judges
All fine print should be on the decline with minute-by-minute updates online. That has nothing to do with it. They are losing subscribers because America has rejected their far left agenda!

ntotoro
The only reason my wife and I get any paper at all is for coupons. I think all print media is possibly somewhat hurting right now.
skinsfan44
Yes, the WP is hurting, mostly from Internet news sites and partly from the drop off in subscriptions after the feud with the Redskins. How do I know this you say? Because a neighbor up the road from me that works for the Post told me this.
Mark The Homer
I prefer to read the news in newsprint, and I do subscribe to the post, but 9 times out of ten, the main news on the front page is old news that I already read the day before online. chomerics
that is the only reason I take it nowI read the post online DING DING DING!!!! We have a winner!!! Why pay for something you can read for free online? ALL print media is going the way of the horse and buggy. The internet changed the landscape for the next generation. Dan T.
I do sense the daily paper becoming an anachronism, given 24-hour television news and the Internet. Yet - call me a Luddite, but I still like to have the morning paper spread out on the kitchen table to read. Granted, I've already heard about most of the major stories already, but print journalism can give more details and background into the headlines. Reading online just isn't the same. And it's tough bringing the laptop into the can.
Lombardi's_kid_brother
I probably get 90 percent of my news from online sources at this point. But I still subscribe to the Post because I like to read the paper with my lunch. I may be the last of a dying breed however.

redskins59
Does this income statement look like they're hurting? Hell no, if anything, they're making money, and loads of it. Warren Buffett still owns shares of Washington Post. It's a good company, and guess what, they're still growing. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/is?s=WPO
