I just dont even know what to say.  What makes someone think that this is okay to do to another human being and then broadcast it on facebook?  Victim was special needs and barely an adult.

When I read things like this it makes me want to disregard criminal justice and prison reform and just start locking people up for life.  Hard to be shocked nowadays but this one did it.

The first glib answer (that's about the only kind of answer I'm qualified to make) is that it's people who want publicity.

Which unfortunately then leads up to arguing that we need to legislate making it illegal to publicize the event or the individuals.  And I've got a problem with that "solution", too.

His attackers laugh and shout "**** Donald Trump" and "**** white people" as they kick and punch him and and cut into his forehead with a knife.

When you repeatedly overstate someone as a racist, then conflate all of his supporters into that same 'basket'.. you will get these kinds of reactions from people who don't know the whole picture and think they are somehow doing good.. no clue on the kid's affiliations, but they appeared to have an idea.

I think they arrested a bunch of 18-19 year olds, so I wouldn't get too freaked out.  Kids do stupid stuff all the time...even the kids on the swim team at Stanford.

This is dumb. This is way,way beyond kids do stupid **** here.

#BLMKidnapping is trending on Twitter.

No surprise there. 50/50 or greater chance it was started by someone or someone's not even remotely involved with BLM. Or anti BLM for that matter.

Just now, TheGreatBuzz said:

Politics aside, this is about hate.  Hate doesn't know party lines.  Until all sides learn to sit down and discuss concerns, even if those concerns are unfounded, hate will just continue.

Yup.  Nothing to do with politics, just a convenient excuse

Pure sociopaths and need to be locked up for life.

Really?  Are you familiar with some of the hazing stories that gave come out in the last few years?  The perps are gonna get the book thrown at them and they should, but I'm not ready to "lock them up for life".

Her Facebook page is quite active right about now.  Hopefully cyber bullying works like everyone says it does.

As much as i dislike mass online bullying, i mean, i guess im a hypocrite because i agree 100%

I'm having a hard time understanding the kid gloves.  These are adults.  Why the hell am I reading this:

Quote

"Although they are adults, they're 18. Kids make stupid decisions -- I shouldn't call them kids, they're legally adults, but they're young adults and they make stupid decisions," Duffin said. "That certainly will be part of whether or not... we seek a hate crime, to determine whether or not this is sincere or just stupid ranting and raving."

It's possible the racially charged statements were little more than people "ranting about something they think might make a headline," Johnson added. He said he did not believe the attack was politically motivated.

Cops are now deciding if people had real hate in their hearts?  Just ignore what actually happened, what was said and done, and just assert that they didn't really mean it.  Why not?  They tied someone up, beat them, stabbed them, yelled racist insults at them, then posted the video because they were proud of what they did and wanted to heap humiliation on to the pile of horrors.... But other than that what could possibly lead anyone to conclude that these "kids" are bad enough to be racist?

No one should be in a hurry to excuse any of this right now, especially police.  If they find a damn good reason to do so later, share those finding with the press.  Right now, worry about the victim.

And CNN wtf....

Quote

Because the victim was white and the people in the video are black, police are investigating whether hate crime charges are appropriate, Duffin said in response to reporters' questions about the possibility of a bias attack.

Right, that's why.  Certainly not the whole "**** white people" thing that happened while they tortured a white guy.  It's entirely because they just happened to be black and the guy the tortured just happened to be white.  Thanks CNN.

I consider myself to be the epitome of a stupid kid. Never in a million years would it cross my mind to do something even approaching this. And i went to federal prison at 23. Psychotic behavior. Period.

That said i wouldn't attach anything bigger politically to it. Not yet anyway. We desperately need to get back(?) to judging the individual in this country.

I think violent crimes need severe punishment.  Non violent crimes need house arrest unless it involves major amount of $$.

So you think people like Bernie Madoff should only get house arrest? Crimes like fraud, burglary (when no one is home), etc would only get house arrest? There are all kinds of terrible crimes where violence didn't occur  (espionage,  purchasing child pornography etc, etc).

I didn't watch the video, but I read that they basically tried to scrap the kid.  They should be charged with attempted murder if that's the case.

This isn't hazing, this isn't kids being kids, this is a hate crime in one of the most violent cities in the country.  A crime that the perpetrators had no problem sharing with the world.

I believe she attached a disclaimer of "unless it involves a major amount of $$".  And I wouldn't speak for her except to say that she's a reasonable person, and obviously espionage and purchasing child pornography would register as "violent", whether it involves physical injury or not.  Context matters.

Taking no position here but curious if you took the same position on violence at Trump rallies
