KCClybun
Let's keep in mind that Schuler was an option quarterback. Not a spread option, mind you. Just option. Like what Georgia Tech runs. He wore number 21. It might be hindsight, but goddamn I don't know what the hell Norv was thinking...
Hitman21ST
 Well, I guess we're ****ed then. Everyone, we might as well not watch football this year. EDIT: and WOW to Theismann's hair. That was impressive.

LehighValleySkinsFan
Yea. we truly couldnt win that year. Shuler or Dilfer? YUK
Burgold
It was widely considered a really bad year for qbs that year. Trent Dilfer was the unchallenged second best qb in the draft and there was some doubt whether he was the best. With that in mind, Norv Turner... offensive genius Norv Turner, wanted a qb to mold in his image. Ratings be damned. And thus we got Heath Shuler. I think the closer parallel would be Heath Shuler and Gabbert last year. Shannahan chose not to reach for a qb even though he was considered the next best guy and we had a gaping need at QB. This year, we're making our move and we'll either get RGIII or Luck. Will it work out? Knock on wood.
roanoker
It was a nice Sunday. The birds were chirping, Spring is in the air, the draft is around the corner, what brought this up?
Enter Apotheosis
I enjoyed the clip just because of mid-90s Jaws' mullet and moustache.
SkinsHokieFan
All I can say is I was one very excited 12 year old at the time But my goodness look how far the passing game has come in 18 years, both in the NFL and at the college level. Shuler today wouldn't even be drafted
TheDane
Theismann endorses everyone. Bless his heart, he's a hopeless homer.

HogNose
"John Friesz is there....no need to start him just yet." Jesus why doesn't Berman age or do they just put him in a freezer each off season?

The Robert Griffin Experience
Oh god those ratings. Shuler with pocket presence? Mechanics? Hilarious. It sounds like Shuler got with some NFL guys, and managed to put just enough lipstick on his pig of a skillset, similar to Akili Smith, that people believed that that's who he was. Commander -JB-
1995 was more than 15 years ago. Its safe to say, scouting & everything that goes into deciding prospects @ the QB position has been upgraded 1 zillion fold..
Darth Tater
"John Friesz is there....no need to start him just yet." Jesus why doesn't Berman age or do they just put him in a freezer each off season? Its a Portrait of Chris Berman thing. I guess he could have had the same deal as Dick Clark had. MWCREDSKINS
Look at Heath Shuler, ouch! But I think RG3 is much better than Shuler
SonOfWashington
Well ****, let's watch the acquisition of Gus Frerotte later in that draft while we're at it. 3rd overall or 197th, Norv sure knew how to pick a winner at QB.
Tastes Like Chicken
I was quite excited about this draft. 20 years old, 3 Lombardi's from age 9-18. A couple off years, and then Norval was supposed to grab his QB. Shuler to Westbrook (drafted the following year) was supposed to be our version of Aikman to Irvin. No one was supposed to beat that, turns out the worst beating was Westbrook on Stephen Davis.

Mercuryrising
Imagine if we had done a RGIII deal to move up to #2 in 1994? 1994 #1 QB Shuler 1994 #2 OG Tre Johnson 1995 #1 WR Westbrook 1996 #1 OT Andre Johnson For a guy named Marshall Faulk. Heck, let's throw in 1997 #1 too (DL Kennard Lang) and it still would have been a steal for us... Hopefully the RGIII trade is the same kind of deal, and I think it just might be!
