2. Government coming directly after VPN companies for helping circumvent their Porn Site "Age Verification"

There's a reason people choose VPNs based out of countries other than their own (and also not countries that share what they spy like the Five Eyes and Fourteen Eyes countries).  Gubment ain't got no jurisdiction over 'em.  NordVPN, for example, operates out of Panama.

America's most-visited porn site blocks access for Arkansans

The country's most popular porn website has blocked access for IP addresses in Arkansas in reaction to a new law requiring age verification for users.

When a person in Arkansas visits Pornhub, they are met with a single webpage that includes text explaining the company's decision.

"While safety and compliance are at the forefront of our mission, giving your ID card every time you want to visit an adult platform is not the most effective solution for protecting our users, and in fact, will put children and your privacy at risk," the message read.

Act 612 requires age verification for websites that have a substantial portion of material that is pornography or harmful to minors, with exceptions. It went into effect on Aug. 1, 2023, along with hundreds of other new state laws.

A Pornhub spokesperson told 40/29 News that when it complied with a similar law in Louisiana, its traffic dropped by 80%.

Users didn't stop looking for adult content altogether but instead went to other, more dangerous websites, the spokesperson said. Age verification should happen at the device level, where parents can block and monitor minors' browsing activity.

https://apnews.com/article/pornography-age-verification-texas-unconstitutional-48af1b99434cdfddd12351f555aeab11

A federal judge has struck down a Texas law requiring age verification and health warnings to view pornographic websites and blocked the state attorney general’s office from enforcing it.

In a ruling Thursday, U.S. District Judge David Ezra agreed with claims that House Bill 1181, which was signed into law by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in June, violates free speech rights and is overbroad and vague.

The state attorney general’s office, which is defending the law, immediately filed notice of appeal to the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

A few notes here I've been observing over the last few days

- The ban is starting to impact a little as some sites like PH and let's call it "XH" have already started verifying. That's fine as you can just go to another site which has the same video so it's no big loss. But I've noticed when I access this site called "OF" that I keep getting asked to verify my age before accessing adult content. Now as a 40 year old man I am of legal viewing age however it still wants me to verify with ID and then take a picture. And guess what, the picture on the website doesn't even take your picture, it's faulty. So I'm not happy about that!

- Second of all and this is more political, the ads here in VA are inundating the airwaves. We are being bombarded up north with a cavalry of inane ads towing party lines and having burglars interviewed talking about how Democrat Russett Perry loves crime and makes his job easier. Like is that how low we are stooping now? Anyway this guy is advertising his dumb political rhetoric on the other day, and one of the taglines is like "MY OPPONENT VOTED IN FAVOR OF KIDS WATCHING PORNOGRAPHY" which I surmised was related to this very bill...so you can see why Democrats were all behind this bill. If they vote against it their opponent will just drop that dumb line. "MY OPPONENT VOTED FOR KIDS TO ACCESS PORN. DON'T VOTE FOR HIM" uneducated rube "Well by gosh darn that sounds bad I best not vote for him" Moral of the story is never ever believe those dumb ass political ads which ALWAYS have a slant and agenda. Has anyone decided to vote for or not vote for a candidate purely based on a manipulative fear mongering ad?

The amount of effort you're putting into this thread to keep us informed of potential impact to your porn access should be reallocated into actually getting laid.

Logoff, brother, logoff...

I'm concerned about the use of political ads now, if you live in NOVA you see them on TV all the time. So and so candidate voted for children to watch porn and it's just, it seems like it's crossing a line of what is ethical IMO
