Gansler, a former Democratic state attorney general, is making another attempt to become Maryland governor. Gansler, 59, has largely been out of the public eye since 2014, following a rocky run for his party’s nomination for governor. He said now that voters are not interested in past “political shenanigans” that caused that campaign to struggle, such as concern over his visit to a beach party where teenagers were drinking. In his comeback try, Gansler is seeking to position himself as a candidate with the experience needed to run state government and the ability to enact progressive policies. He planned to launch his campaign Tuesday with a 2-minute introductory video splashed across social media. A former coworker of mine. Oh the stories I could tell. China
Trump endorses Kelly Tshibaka, Murkowski’s challenger in Alaska’s Senate race. Former President Donald J. Trump endorsed Kelly Tshibaka on Friday in her race against Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, giving his support to an outsider candidate who promoted false claims of election fraud last year and has written articles in support of gay conversion therapy. “Lisa Murkowski is bad for Alaska,” Mr. Trump said in a statement, criticizing her vote to confirm Deb Haaland as secretary of the Interior Department. “Murkowski has got to go!” Ms. Murkowski was censured by the Alaska Republican Party in March for her vote to convict Mr. Trump during his second impeachment trial. Hoping to seize on the popularity of Mr. Trump, who twice won Alaska by wide margins, Ms. Tshibaka has positioned herself as a “MAGA”-loving outsider, promoting false theories of voter fraud in the 2020 election. As a student at Harvard Law School, she endorsed “coming out of homosexuality,” writing approvingly of a day “dedicated to helping homosexuals overcome their sexual tendencies and move towards a healthy lifestyle,” according to archives of her work unearthed by CNN’s KFile. She also urged gay people to participate in “pastoral counseling” and “accountability groups.” Click on the link for the full article
China
Rudy Giuliani's son, Andrew, gets zero votes from GOP leaders in bid for New York governor The son of former New York mayor and Trump personal attorney Rudy Giuliani received no support for his bid to be the next governor of New York in a secret vote by local Republican leaders this week. In May, Andrew Giuliani announced he was seeking the GOP nomination for the 2022 contest, claiming he was a born politico. "I'm a politician out of the womb," he said. "It's in my DNA." But leaders of the New York Republican Party were not feeling it. As the Democrat & Chronicle reported, Giuliani, who served in the White House under former President Donald Trump, received no votes from GOP county chairs or members of the Republican state committee at a straw poll in Albany on Monday. The New York GOP said more people chose to abstain — 10% — than vote for Giuliani, who has described his views as "very, very similar" to the former president's. Burgold
2022 will be an important test for the nation. Usually, off elections are bad for Democrats. Considering that and the bad news from the census plus extreme gerrymandering and changing in voting laws, it might be tough for blue to win. On the other hand, the Republican party stands for nothing but obstruction, conspiracy, and lying these days... So, red voters can't remain suckers forever, can they? China
Iowa Democrat Finkenauer seeking GOP Senator Grassley's seat Democrat Abby Finkenauer, a former congresswoman, is running for Republican Chuck Grassley’s U.S. Senate seat, hoping her blue-collar credentials will propel her forward in a state that has grown more conservative over the years. The 32-year-old former state lawmaker, who planned to announce her candidacy by video Thursday morning, would offer a stark contrast to the 87-year-old Grassley, who was elected to his first term in the Senate eight years before Finkenauer was born. “I’m running ... to make sure that Iowans and, quite frankly, our country has someone sitting in the United States Senate representing them and working for them every day who actually understand working families,” Finkenauer told The Associated Press in an interview before the video release. Finkenauer, despite losing her House seat in 2020 after one term, remains a youthful prospect in the Iowa Democratic Party, which has struggled to produce a new generation for statewide office. Along with 38-year-old Democrat Dave Muhlbauer, a farmer who previously announced his bid for Grassley’s seat, she is hoping Grassley’s slipping poll numbers provide an opening to revive a shrinking segment of the party’s once diverse electorate: rural voters. Grassley has said he will announce by November whether he will seek an eighth term, though he talks regularly with campaign aides and reported this month having $2.5 million in his campaign account as of the end of June.
