The Washington Nationals Thread: The Future is Near!

A little story: in game 7 of the 2001 World Series, The Yankees were leading the diamondbacks going into the 9th with Mariano Rivera coming up, aka “the hammer of God.”  Rivera is basically untouchable.

Craig Cousell, manager of the Brewers was part of the greatest rally against Rivera.  There was a broken bat single, and then Counsell got hit by a pitch to load the bases before Louis Gonzalez won the game with a bloop single.

So, it can happen against great closers.

That might be the best sporting event I’ve ever seen.

Broken bat single.  Check.

Hit Batsman. Check.

Bloop single to win the game? Check.

Counsell must be experiencing deja vu.

(Though the diamondbacks win in game 7 against the Yankees in 2001 was a bit more meaningful than a wildcard game.)

No matter what happens from here on out, we'll always have this moment.

...Just gonna marinate in it for a bit

That's what I'm feeling, they jus made history...playing like that against the Dodger could get them swept.  We shouldn't even be here having this convo, that's my focus, such a big deal to finally get the monkey off our back as a franchise

and we're in great shape for thursday, we only used 1 bullpen arm tonight

Yep and still have a fresh Corbin who has great #s vs. the Dodgers lefty heavy lineup.

Hopefully Stras is good to go for Game 2 which would be Friday. Might have to tag team with Sanchez.

Then Scherz for Game 3, hopefully some redemption.

For as much as we can trash Davey, he pushed all the right buttons afterwards. Put Stras in early. Threw out all the PHs. Had Stevenson PR for Zimm.

Agreed.  Hes not perfect, but no one is.  Is it a combo of luck and skill, sure, but cant win with luck alone

I’d go Sanchez in game 2, Strass in 3.

Sanchez has been very good.  Better to have Strass on regular rest.  And at home.

Redemption for what?  3 runs wasn’t that terrible.

I think Stras should still be good for Game 2. He didn't go full workload tonight. And pitching him game 2 means he could pitch in a theoretical game 5 on normal rest.
