@Ball Security Giolito for Eaton. Good trade or bad trade?

Good process.  Good results because of the  WS.  If no WS, bad results because of his lost 2017 season and he didn’t return to the 5ish WAR player he was for the previous three seasons.

When you give up a top end pitching prospect who has struggled in their short time in the majors, sometimes they turn into Jake Arrieta.  Sometimes they turn into Jarrod Parker or Daniel Norris.  Giolito, to his and CWS credit, has followed the Arrieta path.

Thank God this post is no longer valid.

Gonna go drink one for every player the Nats have traded.

Stop looking back. Drink one for every player they received.

I am a simple man:

As of this post, Eaton contributed to a championship-winning team and Giolito has yet to do that.

Good trade.

It was one of those rare trades where both teams got exactly what they wanted. White Sox got guy that turned into a top end starter for their rotation. Nats got a guy who they probably would not have won the WS without. Totally fine with that outcome.

I would venture that in the next year, Juan Soto will be re-upped with a major contract extension given all the questioning about the Lerners' willingness to sign their young talent.

dont think its up to the Lerners yet

Giolito was given the chance to go out and just pitch. He figured some things out. He would not have gotten that opportunity here. He's a good guy and am example of perseverance.

Eaton was a good player for us and irrationally hated by a lot of Nats fans for some reason. It was unfortunate he got hurt like he did, but it wasn't his fault.

So the QO Compensation rule was updated. If we sign Corey Seager for example, this is what we forfeit:

Quote

A team that neither exceeded the luxury tax in the preceding season nor receives revenue sharing will lose its second-highest selection in the following year's Draft as well as $500,000 from its international bonus pool. If it signs two such players, it will also forfeit its third-highest remaining pick. If that team loses a free agent, it will be awarded a Draft pick immediately following Competitive Balance Round B.
