2016 ES GMs mock draft - and we're spent.

In the tooting of the own horns category...

I still think the most amazing stat of last year's draft was Tampa's GM actually landing 2 middle round picks of the actual Tampa team. I mean, we're not talking top 10 picks here. And if I took Captain Crablegs 1st overall I woulda matched 3 picks.

Kwon Alexander and Kenny Bell... pretty amazing if you ask me.

So was there a "winner" last year or any rankings? Best draft, worst draft, etc? You guys must have put your heads together and compared draft classes after it was over. Any overwhelming favorite? And looking back at how these rookies actually performed, anyone do that and compare to the drafts? Any huge steals, relative to actual NFL draft position or rookie production?

There's a link to the last page of last year's draft in the first post of this thread. A couple of us posted retrospectives on our drafts. Spoiler: My draft had minimal year 1 impact.

So trade up!

You know you wanna'!

Hail.

Feel like I won't need too. I believe in Jerry 'GHH' Jones gullibility and skills to buy on the decoy I will start sending soon (maybe I already did...) so you completely whiff the pick.

The overall consensus was that Dallas miserably failed, because it's Dallas. Winner is yet to be determined, but still, as I picked the guy that the Redskins took IRL, I feel like that made me a winner... Like I always do anyway.

From my synopsis in the other thread...

End of season look at my Redskins picks

Rd 1, pick 20 La'el Collins, OL - starting LG for the Cowboys

Rd 2, pick 38 Jaelen Strong, WR - 14 rec for 161 yds and 3 TDs, playing in 10 games

Rd 2, pick 57 Stephone Anthony, ILB - starting ILB for Saints 112 combined tackles, 1 sack 2 FF 1 int

Rd 3, pick 69 Michael Bennett, DT - played in 13 games for the Jaguars 10 tackles .5 sacks

Rd 3, pick 84 Jaquiski Tarrt, S - starting SS for the 49ers 65 tackles 2 sacks 1 FF 1 int

Rd 4, pick 105 Senquez Golson, CB - put on IR by Steelers in training camp; rehabbing for next year

Rd 5, pick 141 Jarvis Harrison, G - active roster first 7 games for Jets, released and signed to practice squad, signed to futures contract for next year

Rd 6, pick 182 Zach Zenner, RB - Put on IR just after becoming the starting RB for the Lions 17 carries 60 yds 3.5 ypc 2 rec 11 yds; will be a full go for offseason activities

Rd 7, pick 222 Vince Mayle, WR - Was drafted by Cle, released and signed to Cowboys practice squad, was called up to active roster last game of the season

Rd 7, pick 225 Blake Bell, TE - 15 rec 186 yds in 14 games for 49ers

So all 10 still in the league!  We'll see next year!

Forgot to add, I picked up the 13th pick in next year's draft (thanks Chip) and the 12th pick in the 3rd round (thanks Sean)

Interesting points:

Redskins went OL first pick; so did I

Redskins ended up with 10 picks; so did I

Redskins got a pick next year; so did I (2 of them actually)

Redskins drafted 2 WRs, 1 RB, 1 CB, 1 S, 1 DL and 1 ILB (assuming that is where Spaight plays for us); so did I

Redskins drafted 3 OL; I drafted 2, the difference being I grabbed a TE

Except you picked a guy in the first that went undrafted.... That's crappy scouting.

At the time I picked he wasn't under investigation for a murder charge, which he was apparently exonerated from.

Would I have been faulted if I had drafted Tom Brady in the first round the year he came out just because he went in the 6th?  You're making a poor argument.

I drafted a guard who ended up starting and playing well.  If anything that shows that I am a better talent evaluator in that instance than quite a few real life NFL GMs.

Stupid question, but are picks this year affected by trades from last year? Surely not... right?

As much as I would love to have the Eagles first rounder and Saints 3rd rounder as the Redskins GM, no.

Last year's draft means nothing in regards to this year.

This was both my post draft wrap (With links to descriptions of the picks as they were made), and the state of play when the rosters went in the start of the season. 8 out of 11 drafted. All 11 made a team. Need to look again to see if anyones dropped out but I think they're all still in play.

Dallas Cowboys 2015 Mock Draft- The Final Wrap.

So this was 'my' draft. 7 original picks turned into 11. The most picks in the entire Mock along with Pittsburgh. And in red below each pick I've put down we're my guys actually went in the 'real' draft and my thoughts on that.

The Draft (links to the Cowboys assessment and reasoning of/ behind the picks as they happened included):

Round 1. Pick 27/ 27. RB. Jay Ajayi. Jnr. Boise State University. http://es.redskins.c...met/?p=10177470

Round 5. Pick 23/149. Miami Dolphins.

No real surprise here that he slid that far. I was fully expecting him to go somewhere  in the 4th at the earliest after the news broke a few days before the draft that he had the irreparable, degenerative bone-on-bone knee issue. Real shame as he's a top 40, borderline first rounder and the 2nd/ 3rd best back in the entire draft without that. Still see it as an absolute steal for the the Dolphins who will ride the heck out of him if they're smart whilst he's fully healthy his rookie contract and see where they stand after that long term.

Does this go down as a big fail? That's for y'all to decide being as nobody knew about the injury when we had the mock.

Round 2. Pick 28/ 60. CB. Steven Nelson. Snr. Oregon State University. http://es.redskins.c...met/?p=10179733

Round 3. Pick 34/ 98. Kansas City Chiefs.

Now this one surprised the Hell out of me. I had him at worst a high third rounder and fully expected him to go in round 2. To get him in the third IMHO is an absolute steal by KC and they have bagged themselves at worse a new slot guy with a great chance a new starting corner along with Peters.

But he still went a round and 38 picks below where I took him so I guess he counts as a minus.

Round 3. Pick 27/ 91. DL. Marcus Hardison. Snr. Arizona State University. http://es.redskins.c...met/?p=10182026

Round 4. Pick 36/135. Cincinnati Bengals.

Bengals bagged a starter in a position of need. What's not to like there?

But hey, it's still a round and 46 picks back from where I selected him so it's upto others to decide how big a minus that is.

Round 4. Pick 28/127. OL. Mitch Morse. Snr. University of Missouri. http://es.redskins.c...met/?p=10183790

Round 2. Pick 17/ 49. Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs desperately needed a new starting centre. And they got what I believe will be a real solid pro lineman. Surprised he went this high (My top 2 were Erving and Grasu. Erving had gone in the first, Grasu somehow slipped to the third); but he was the third centre on my board and one of the Chiefs priorities was a starting centre. Great take.

And an unequivocal steal for me. 2 rounds higher than I drafted him.

Round 5. Pick 27/163. Traded to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for the Colts 205, 207 (6th round) and 244 (7th round) picks.

Round 6.

Pick 5/181. * Acquired in a trade with the Detroit Lions. Along with the 181st pick, Dallas received a 2016 6th rounder. The Lions received Dallas' 2016 4th rounder. * DT. Rakeem Nunez-Roches. Jnr. University of Southern Mississippi. http://es.redskins.c...met/?p=10187706

Round 6. Pick 41/217. Kansas City Chiefs.

I don't get this pick at all from KC. Like the Smith pick in Washington, he just doesn't fit in a 34 for me.

But regardless, going the same round and just 36 picks below where I took him makes it a wash for me.

Pick 29/205. DB. Anthony Jefferson. Snr. University of California Los Angeles. http://es.redskins.c...met/?p=10189410

UFA. Chicago Bears.

Going undrafted really surprised me as I had a 5th round grade on him. But he has an excellent chance to stick on the Bears roster given their safety depth.

Round 6 to UFA. A minus on Anthony.

Pick 31/207. LB. Nairon Ball. Snr. University of Florida. http://es.redskins.c...met/?p=10189591

Round 5. 25/161. Oakland Raiders.

This made me whoop the loudest the whole draft. Not because of the flack I got and the justification in my assessment of the Gator. But because this is a top young man who nearly lost his life and has battled back to realise his dream, So, SO happy for him. How can you NOT rout for this kid? The Raiders got a top 100 talent who would of gone in that range had it not been for the medical history.

1 round and 46 picks higher than I drafted him amid a lot of criticism in the mock. Has to go down as a steal right?

Round 7.

Pick 19/236. OT. Tayo Fabuluje. Snr. Texas Christian University. http://es.redskins.c...met/?p=10192978

Round 7. Pick 6/183. Chicago Bears.

Solid back-up with a real chance to start sooner rather than later. Great value pick for the Bears so late.

Another wash, being as he went the same round as I took him and 13 picks earlier.

*Trade* Dallas sent their 2016 7th rounder to Atlanta in exchange for the Falcons 249 pick.

Pick 26/243. RB. Terrell Watson. Snr. Azusa Pacific University. http://es.redskins.c...met/?p=10193597

UFA. Cincinnatti Bengals.

Exactly where I had. A PFA. As I said going into the final round on the mock, there'd be guys you drafted to make sure you had them just because we didn't have UFA.  Great chance to make the Bengals roster and they where so high on him he was their first PFA get.

Is this a minus? That's for others to decide but it's another wash for me for the reasons given above

Pick 27/244. WR/KR. J.J. Nelson. Snr. University of Alabama at Birmingham. http://es.redskins.c...met/?p=10193629

Round 5. Pick 23/159. Arizona Cardinals.

REAL surprised he went THAT high. Not at all surprised someone thought he was worthy of a 5th. This kid could be an absolute beast on kick/ punt returns whilst instantly becomes the Cards 4th/ 5th receiver. Size be damned, he'll stick.

Another unequivocal steal. 2 rounds and 85 picks higher than I took him.

Pick 32/249. Edge Rusher. Ryan Delaire. Snr. Towson University. http://es.redskins.c...met/?p=10194522

UFA. Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Again, exactly the same as Wilson. I had him as a PFA but drafted him because I really like the potential as a DE edge rusher and we didn't have UFA in the Mock.

Apparently the Buccs thought similar too.

So, out of 11 players I drafted, 8 got drafted in the actual draft. 1 had a major fall down to injury but could turn out to be one of the steals of the draft with an EXCELLENT chance to start day 1 in Miami. 2 more slid a round but become instant 2/ 3's on their respective teams depth charts. 2 massive 2 round steals. 1 an immediate starter. The other with every chance to be a stud returner in this league. And another nice 1 round steal of a top 100 talent who only fell to start with down to injury. Couple of washes and even of the three that went undrafted, 2 went exactly where I pegged them and all 3 got signed as PFA.

7 original picks turned into 11. All our pre-draft aims met. Serious interior pass rushing upgrade on the defensive line at both the 1 and 3 tech positions  to give us a great interior rotation. Long term edge rusher who can contribute situationaly added. Back-up offensive line upgraded inside and out. Starter # 2 corner added to keep Scandrick on the outside and allow the new FA acquisition from the Saints to play the slot. And a specialist kick returner to fill Harris' shoes. With the added bonus of top 100 talent LB. And not forgetting replacing last years league leading running back with a potentially better talent and a quality guy to spell him in short areas who we didn't know about the knee at the time of drafting but would still happily ride out our guy for the next 4/5 years and see where he's at.

We did give up next years 4th and 7th (we gained an extra 6th in 2016) which I hate to do; but we're comfortable there in the fact that we fully anticipate at least 3, if not all 4, compensatory selections for this years loses. Not least a third rounder for DeMarco.

It's for others to decide of course, but from Dallas' perspective, which his been reiterated over the last 3 days, we absolutely killed it in 2015 and could not be happier with how it's all played out!   :D.

___________________________________________________________________________________

So now the final rosters are in, EVERYONE of my 11 draft picks are still on a team.   :D.

On active rosters, we have Ball (Oakland)/ Hardison (Bengals)/ Stevie Nelson, Nunez-Roches and Morse, who's the STARTING centre (Chiefs)/ J.J Nelson (Cardinals)/ Fabuluje. (Bears.).

Jay Ajayi is also on Miami's IR list for the first 8 weeks due to broken ribs but was/ is slated to be on the 53 man roster as soon as he's healthy.

On practice squads, we have Delaire (Redskins) and Watson. (Bengals.).

On IR, we have Jefferson. (Bears.).

Conclusion: The Cowboys GM can't half draft!.   :D.

Gonna' be interesting drafting the start of ever round instead of the backend this year. Can't really fail at 4. Although we are open to trade talks as always.

Good luck to everyone and let's have a blast as always, Now for the hard work in prep.

.....

He's a far better guard than anything we have not named Scherff.

That was a real good pick and in real life an absolute steel for the Cowboys.

Hail.

Well, the point at the end of last year was to compare when guys got drafted to when we did. That's just what I'm pointing :P

I knew that would fire you up lol.

I believe Todd Marinovich and Ryan Leaf aren't eligible, but I'm pretty sure you can fail at #4.

My position at five is great again, all I have to do is watch teams battle for a few QB and take what's left. :) Which will, obviously, be great.

I believe that out of the four picks in front of me, at least 2 will be QBs.

I posted this last year.

---------------------------------------------------

The Miami Dolphins 2015 draft picks:

1(14)(14) Landon Collins, SS, Alabama (Collins was selected 33rd overall by the New York Giants)

2(15)(47) Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami (The San Diego Chargers selected with the 16th pick (48th overall) of the 2nd)

4(15)(114) Javorious Allen, RB, USC (Allen was selected in the 4th round by the Baltimore Ravens)

5(13)(149) Josue Matias, G, FSU (Undrafted, on the practice squad for the Tennessee Titans)

5(14)(150) Jamison Crowder, WR, Duke (Crowder was picked by the Washington Redskins in the 4th round with the 105th overall pick)

6(15)(191) Lorenzo Doss, CB, Tulane (Round: 5 Pick: 164 on the Denver Broncos active roster)

All future picks remain the same.

The Dolphins focused this draft mostly on first names and early on, focused on players from big programs considered the best at their positions. Landon Collins is the best safety prospect in the draft and will play immediately at strong safety, scratching off a huge need for the Dolphins defense. Denzel Perryman from Miami was first team All-ACC the last two years and third team All-American last year. He is a tackling machine and a natural run stopper, which this defense sorely lacked. His Miami link gave him the edge over other similarly rated prospects and he is also arguably the best ILB prospect in the draft. Both of these players make this defense much better at stopping the run. Plus Landon and Denzel are cool names.

Javorious Allen took over USC's lead running back duties midway through the 2013 season and shined. He was first team All-PAC-12 in 2014 and will compete behind Lamar Miller. The coaching staff has high hopes "Buck" will provide solid backup work and snatch yardage in spells when necessary. He is a solid one-cut runner and earned almost 1500 yards last year for USC, even without game breaking speed. He will have to play to his size in the NFL. Josue Matias will also be given a shot to show NFL intensity and a professional level of play after spending 3 years starting at guard for FSU. He earned All-ACC all 3 years and has the coached skills from a national champion program to compete for a job in the middle of the Dolphins offensive line. The coaches have a "thing" for J's right now, and we all know a coach's "gut feeling" outranks a scout grade. So that's mainly why this is happening.

Jamison Crowder from Duke earned All-ACC the past three years as well, usually leading the conference in receptions and receiving yards. He is small but his production warrants a chance to show his skills at in the big leagues. Crowder had 269 receptions for 3,478 yards and 22 touchdowns in 3 years. He will get a shot in slot and multi-receiver packages so hopefully Ryan Tannehill can take advantage of his playmaking experience. He will also get an opportunity to show his skills as a kick and punt returner. Crowder is the first wide receiver from Duke to be drafted in the past 25 years. Rounding out the draft is an interception creator from Tulane, Lorenzo Doss. He has 33 passes defended and 15 interceptions in the last 3 years starting at cornerback, but he will need to refine his skills and get stronger. He has the experience to play immediately but only if he can stop grabbing so much, help more in run support, and at least keep up with slot receivers.

TLDR: The draft filled several needs and the front office and coaching staff are happy with the picks. The expectation is that the top 2, Collins and Perryman, will become solid starters and make our weak run defense more stout. The hope is that the next 4 guys will contribute this year in at least some fashion since they all play positions of need. Allen and Crowder should give our offense a good jolt but it all depends on Ryan Tannehill. Hopefully all 6 young men picked for the Dolphins 2015 draft class will live up to their groovy first names.

______________________

I am very proud of the draft.

Collins is the starting SS for the Giants and will remain in NY for years it seems.

Perryman had a good rookie year setting up a future at LB for the Chargers.

We all saw Buck Allen contribute for the Ravens and its clear he is the main #2 guy behind Justin Forsett, most likely eclipsing Forsett in the future.

Matias and Doss are in learning systems, especially Doss. A rookie CB on arguably the best defense in years and the best secondary in years, Doss will take over IMO once the Denver starting CB's leave for bigger money. There's just way too much talent at CB in Denver right now; perfect place to learn.

My biggest draft accomplishment is Jamison Crowder. I picked him in the 5th to do slot work behind Jarvis Landry and eventually take over as the #2. I expected a lot from him, and that's exactly what he's doing for the Skins who picked him in the 4th. Crowder should be the Skins main slot guy moving forward (good riddance Andre Roberts) and should be good for a 60-800-6 stat line, at minimum. Last year Crowder posted 59-604-2, which is AWESOME as a Redskins rookie WR considering our ****ty ass luck at drafting WRs.

You'd have to be an spic idiot to fail at 4. Top 5/10 for me should be about BPA regardless. That way you limit your chances of mistakes. Even more so in this draft that isn't brimming with top end talent. So you're guaranteed one of the top 4 guys you have on your board. Simples. Just complicated by people who think they're smarter than they ever where.

As for QB's, I can see Cleveland taking one. Not that there's one that should go anywhere near the top 10 IMHO. But they're desperate. After that I'm struggling.

So who's the other one?

Hail.

I can honestly see valid reasons for every team besides the Titans. It's either they have no real QB or they need a replacing for an aging vet with not much in house. That is baring any trade or FA moves in the upcoming free agency.

Also, I wouldn't be surprise at all if the Titans can sucessfully ship that 1st pick in this draft. Some are really desperate.

We talking our draft or real life?

Don't see any way Dallas drafts a QB at 4 in real life.
