Quote DUI suspect in hit-run crash that left boy, 6, badly hurt was deported 15 times http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/public-safety/sd-me-dui-deportee-20170509-story.html San Diegans who oppose Trump's immigration policies spoke out against using this case to depict all immigrants as criminals. "Drunk driving is a nation-wide problem that has affected the lives of far too many," said Andrea Guerrero, executive director of Alliance San Diego, via email. "Using the pain and suffering of victims and their families to vilify a single community is irresponsible and unhelpful. We all need to work together, immigrants and citizens alike, in an atmosphere of trust in order to solve public safety issues." Because of the Banda-Acosta’s immigration history, the boy and his family will be eligible for help from the new Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement, or VOICE, office created by President Donald Trump in an executive order. The office aids victims of crimes committed by unauthorized immigrants.

LD0506
http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/12/us/oklahoma-lawmaker-immigrants-schools/index.html Quote Ritze, a doctor from the Tulsa suburb of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, told KWTV this week that he and a group of Republican lawmakers had come up with a number of ways to fill a hole in their state's budget without raising taxes. One way to save $60 million, he said, would be looking at the tens of thousands of students in the state who don't speak English. "Identify them and then turn them over to ICE to see if they truly are citizens," Ritze said. "Do we really have to educate non-citizens?" visionary
Quote The number of immigrants arrested by US authorities has soared in the first months of Donald Trump's administration, rising by nearly 40 percent, according to new official figures. Trump has emboldened immigration agents in a crackdown on people suspected of being in the country without documents. The numbers released on Wednesday by Thomas Homan, acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), are seen as a snapshot of how the new president is carrying through on his campaign promises to make immigration enforcement a top priority. Overall, 41,300 people were arrested for deportation between January 22 and April 29, a 38 percent increase from a comparable period last year. In contradiction to Trump's past claims that immigrants with criminal convictions would be prioritised for deportation, nearly 11,000 had no criminal convictions. That is more than double the number of immigrants without criminal convictions arrested during a comparable period last year. That increase is a result of recent guidance given by Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly to implement Trump's executive orders on interior immigration enforcement and border security signed on January 25, just days after the Republican president took office.
