High Gun Sales And More Time At Home Have Led To More Accidental Shootings By Kids

Accidental gunshot deaths by children handling a gun jumped 31% during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic compared to a year earlier, new data shows.

There were 98 deaths that resulted from unintentional shootings by children from March through December 2019 compared to 128 over that same period in 2020, research by the advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety shows.

And the trend continues to worsen during the pandemic, the groups says.

So far, in 2021 there have been at least 259 unintentional shootings by children, resulting in 104 deaths and 168 injuries nationally, according to the group's #NotAnAccident Index. Everytown is a U.S. nonprofit that advocates for gun control.

Shooter in Lakeland, Florida kills 4, including infant, shoots 11-year-old girl multiple times, sheriff says

LAKELAND, Fla. — Four people were killed, an 11-year-old girl was shot and deputies came under fire early Sunday in a neighborhood in North Lakeland, Florida.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the shootings took place at 4:30 a.m. in two separate houses.

Judd said two separate shootouts occurred "in short order" between police and the suspect, who surrendered after being wounded. Lakeland police and troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol were also involved. After the suspect was in custody, police discovered an 11-year-old girl who had been shot "multiple times," as well as a man, two women and an infant dead.

Sorry, but there seems to be little or no gun control in this country, if it's not a shootout, or somebody shooting themselves stupidly, it's a horde of guns and ammunition:

Thirteen guns, thousands of rounds of ammo stolen in hotel parking lot

Right now a veteran is offering a $10,000 reward to the person who helps find his stolen guns.

Steven Rankin, a Navy veteran, says 13 firearms and between 3,000 to 4000 rounds of ammunition were stolen from his SUV.

“We had three pistols stolen, we had two shotguns stolen and eight rifles stolen," Rankin explained.

Firearms of different calibers makes and models along with cameras, laptops and cash Rankin says are easily worth $25,000 and vanished overnight.

"It's really frustrating," Rankin said.

The veteran says he woke up to a notification on his phone saying his car alarm had gone off and quickly looked out the window.

"All the contents that had any kind of worth, pretty much, were gone," Rankin said. “They did leave my dog tags on the front seat, so that was fun.

I guess all those guns didn't help him protect his property.

He left 13 guns, including 10 long guns, (in "long gun shaped cases?) in the back of an SUV, in a motel parking lot?

Can he be charged for the crimes those guns are used to commit?

In fact, I'm at least a bit suspicious that it was a plan.

Woman shoots through wall and kills ‘peeping Tom’ outside her Texas home, cops say

A Texas woman shot and killed a “peeping Tom” she said she saw peering into her bedroom before midnight Friday, Houston police told local news outlets.

According to investigators, the woman grabbed a rifle after she spotted the man standing outside the bedroom window, and opened fire, KTRK reported. The woman told police she believed she was in danger.

Multiple shots went through the wall of her home and the man was hit at least once in the torso, according to WOAI. He walked a few feet across the property before collapsing onto the driveway.

The homeowner is being cooperative, police told KHOU, and investigators say there doesn’t appear to be any relationship between her and the man.

Not 100% sure.  But that sounds like a legit use of force, to me.  At least maybe.

Shooting blindly multiple times through a wall she could have easily injured or killed an innocent bystander if there was one.   Seems a bit reckless.

Yes, we need to relax the laws so we can have running gun battles on the roads (no public safety issue there)

Road rage shooting raises questions about self-defense in vehicles

Police say a Monday morning shooting incident on Hastings Avenue appears to be road rage related - but it raises questions about self-defense when public and personal safety may be at odds.

Shooting a gun from a public roadway is illegal in Texas, whether you are in a parked car or a moving car.

However, Amarillo Police Department Corporal Jeb Hilton said that changes when someone else is shooting at you.

"Yeah, definitely self-defense. If somebody is firing a gun at you, you have a right to defend yourself or defend someone else when that comes down to that," he said.

"Whether you are in a moving vehicle, whether you are anywhere else, there is a safety issue when it comes to that. Definitely, when you are firing, you can strike your own vehicle, you can lose control of your vehicle, but you definitely have a right to do that."

That was the scene that unfolded on Monday.

Doesn't seem like they had good control of there guns here:

Michigan shooting range temporarily closed after complaints, ‘bullet strikes in neighboring home’

State officials have temporarily closed a Northern Michigan shooting range due to public safety concerns.

The Department of Natural Resources says the North Pioneer Road shooting area located on state forest land in Benzie County will be closed to all target shooting for at least 90 days.

According to the DNR, expanded target shooting activities in the area have created unsafe conditions for public land users and neighboring landowners in the vicinity of 2167 N. Pioneer Road, in Beulah.

Additional complaints about projectiles leaving the target shooting area and unsafe conditions, including multiple calls about “bullet strikes in a neighboring home,” have been received both by the DNR and the Benzie County Sheriff’s Department.

Apparently in this country, rather than gun control, we'd prefer our children to live in fear:

Frisbee causes activation of school's active shooter alert system

An errant Frisbee appears to have caused a Kenosha school to activate its active shooter alert system.

It happened around 10 a.m. Monday at Indian Trail High School and Academy in Kenosha.

According to investigators, students and staff were notified via the alarm system to implement ALICE, which includes barricading doors and evacuating classrooms, among other tactics.

"It is believed that the system was triggered due to a device malfunction, which is still being investigated," a school official said.

Students told WISN 12 a Frisbee was thrown in the gym which hit a sensor and triggered the automatic alarm system.

"They said it's a shooter in the gym," senior Marcelo Johnson said. "They said it's a shooter in the gym. So, when they said it's a shooter in the gym I'm kind of freaking out. But it's a shooter in the gym. I'm right by the gym."

"I'm just like thinking, 'Will I make it out?'" sophomore Conrad Anderson said.

The Kenosha Police Department arrived on the scene and did a full sweep of the building out of an abundance of caution for the safety and security of all.

Shortly after 11 a.m., families were notified that the building was cleared.

"All the information that has been given to us is that we have a malfunction due to a potential Frisbee strike with one of our (gun) shot detectors," the principal told students over the public address system.

"They said it was a Frisbee. They really don't know what is going on," Johnson said.

I actually like the idea of gun shot sensors. Hadn’t heard of that before for schools.

I hate it’s a need, but I like the idea

sucks a frisbee caused it but given the current state of things I’ll accept a false alarm when the intent is to do good within the context of the current situation…

Agree and it can be further tuned im sure to reduce false positives.

Obviously I would rather not need it but until such a time its a worthy idea.

So the argument is that "gun control" laws in Wisconsin allow a 17 yo to "hunt" humans apparently:

Hunting laws allowed Kyle Rittenhouse to carry weapon during fatal shootings in Wisconsin, lawyers say

Attorneys for Kyle Rittenhouse, who is charged with fatally shooting two people during a protest in Wisconsin last year, argued that hunting laws allowed him to carry the assault-style weapon used during the shootings.

Wisconsin law prohibits anyone under age 18 from being armed, but Rittenhouse’s attorneys argued that state laws only forbid minors to carry short-barreled rifles and shotguns. The other prohibitions pertaining to children fall under hunting laws, which say children under age 12 can’t hunt with guns, Rittenhouse’s attorneys said at a hearing Tuesday.

Rittenhouse, of Antioch, Illinois, was 17 on Aug. 25, 2020, when he fatally shot two men and wounded another man while carrying an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle at a protest prompted by a police shooting of a Black man, prosecutors have said.

“There appears to be an exception for 17-year-olds,” defense attorney Corey Chirafisi said, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Hopewell Police investigating first case involving 3D printed gun after accidental shooting

A 16-year-old is back home after he accidentally shot himself with a homemade gun on Saturday.

Hopewell police responded to the shooting at a home along Grant Street over the weekend.

Officers said the teen accidentally shot himself in the leg while making part of a handgun with a 3D printer in his bedroom. He was making a glock-style pistol using spare parts for the top half. The bottom half of the gun was made from the 3D printer, according to police.

Lieutenant Cheyenne Casale said the teen bought the 3D printer himself and his parents weren’t aware he was building the gun.

Before this incident, Casale said he wasn’t familiar with people building handguns with 3D printers.

“It’s a fairly new issue that police are dealing with now,” Casale said. “This is the first I’ve come across or the agency for that matter.”

Casale said it’s illegal for the teen to have been making the handgun, however no charges have been filed at this time.

“There are certain limitations as far as like creating portions for a firearm, like accessories,” he said. “However, that’s all regulated by ATF protocols at the federal level and even the state level.”
