Ex-police sergeant gets 120 years in Florida child porn case

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A former Florida police sergeant was sentenced to 120 years in federal prison for making and possessing child pornography, including images downloaded on his patrol car's computer.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Corrigan on Thursday sentenced former Live Oak police Sgt. Kyle Adam Kirby after a jury found him guilty of producing, possessing and accessing images of child sexual abuse.

Federal prosecutors say the 37-year-old Kirby used his patrol car's computer to download child pornography dating back to December 2014.

They also say Kirby used concealed cameras to film unsuspecting minors and transferred the pictures to his police computer.

So is he saying the government is keeping a database on protestors?  Also, how exactly does this totally legitimate and reliable information allow his department to "minimize any incidents"?

I don't actually expect any answers though, because I suspect that his "robust intelligence platform" is really just right wing internet posts/tweets.

(Sacramento sheriff)

Maybe they have list of outside agitators  like anarchists who go to protests in various places to start fights or destroy property.  Or maybe he meant national BLM officials.  Or maybe he’s just full of **** and wants to divert attention from his department.

This is absurd.

Certainly absurd to be outside attacking a tree with a knife to the point someone called 911

Absurd to hold a knife when cops arrive with guns out.

i'm trying to parse this all.

Sotomayors dissent says she wasn't near the cops or threatening, yet the article says she was 6 feet from the other person.

She then goes on to suggest she posed "no object threat of harm to the officers or others", which is obviously not true in the context of the situation.

21 feet is the safe distance from someone with a knife. 6 feet is entirely too close. You'd think a supreme court justice would know that.

If it would have been fatal would you have the same mindset? I suppose you would but I want to be accurate while I judge you.

Also, that tweet is dumb. It doesn't shield you if you claim to not know you were violating someone's civil rights, it shields you if the rights you're accused of violating were not clearly understood to be civil rights at the time of the alleged violation and requires you to be acting in good faith and with due care.

Quote

In essence, qualified immunity gives civil servants a legal cushion. They have a margin of error "when they navigate uncharted areas at the margins of constitutional criminal law," according to the case of Tarantino v. Baker. The practical effect: Officials get sued less.

Though qualified immunity is broad, it is not meant to be an absolute protection for everything a federal or state employee might do. Even while acting in the scope of their employment, federal, state, and local officers can still be sued for intentionally violating a person's constitutional rights. The theory of qualified immunity requires that an official act in good faith and with due care.
