I'm confused. I thought the role of a true GM was to make final calls and at times that would mean overruling a HC, or is everyone now in favor of a GM catering to the every want and desire of the HC, basically giving him full control?

It might be if we had a traditional relationship where we hired a GM, to hire a coach and architect our franchise/direction.  We have a mess that every coach steps into and sinks, like a big hole full of sewage.  They slowly sink into the sewage and can't find a way to get out.

Shanahan found the way out AND still got paid. ;)

I guess it's easy to point to a HC being overruled as dysfunction when the team isn't doing well, but I was under the impression that a good GM will, at times, overrule the HC. Didn't Casserly and Gibbs used to go to Cooke when they disagreed?

GM-HC relationship is tough, and that's a reason why some go with people they have worked with in some capacity before or have trusted colleagues who have.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?id=3387219  Good article, old one, on GM-HC relationships across the league.

Now if the quote were more specific, and Gruden was having good decisions overruled for very dumb ones, that would be disturbing. I don't doubt the source of that quote, but I doubt the implication that it is an automatic sign of dysfunction when in fact most GMs at times overrule what their HCs want and it causes frustration.

5 star post right here. You my friend get "IT"

Will never give up on the team. But I've given up on the upper management of the organization. Less homecoming events & more talent please!

@BurgundyBlog Watch Morroco work in Cleveland

@HTTR24_7 @BurgundyBlog to be fair, you're just as likely to end up with reggie Mckenzie as you are with a John Schneider.

@B_in_DC @BurgundyBlog To anyone that can actually make a difference.

@HTTR24_7 @BurgundyBlog I'll always wonder who actually made the RG3 trade

@B_in_DC @BurgundyBlog Biggest problem w/ the organization is how they make decisions based on the public/media.From coaching hires to players

@HTTR24_7 @B_in_DC @BurgundyBlog Snyder in many ways behaves like any fan of the team, he has to put that fandom aside for good though

I’m definitely going to look into the #Redskins issues with running the football when the film comes out… Think some is on the RB.

@Manny_PPI Gonna be watching that and third downs. Saw one or two runs where they simply didn't block an edge defender.

@MarkBullockNFL @Manny_PPI I see we are all thinking the same thing. Wanted to see reason we're forced to throw so often

@P_Hazard @MarkBullockNFL Noticed past few weeks Kirk panicked w/blitz or look of blitz on third. Jay seemed to be more cautious this week

I’m going to pickup Jake Locker and start him in fantasy this week……..

I see Jay Gruden's agent has added Giants' exec Marc Ross to his client list Ross would be a great GM choice here...if Skins chose to hire 1

WR Rashad Ross coming to town. has not signed yet, but will take physical and if passes signed to the practice squad.

But to be clear: Ross has not been signed yet...not a done deal...

Rashad Ross who says he is coming back to #Redskins averaged 32 yard per kick return and 39 YPC (2-78) as a WR in preseason.

As to why they'd need another WR and this is just my theory: When Hankerson comes off PUP list, skins will likely cut another WR.

Yeah, it’s too early for a mock draft. But it gets late early when you’re 1-5, or something like that. http://www.csnwashington.com/redskinsblog/2015-nfl-mock-draft-blame-redskins-1-5-start … #RedskinsTalk

IF they sign ross to PS and IF he develops, would give them another speed WR who could also return. 4 later in year or 2015.

Like Rashaud Roses and chemistry with DeSean but bringing in people at that position now? Doesn't say much for Hankerson

@P_Hazard You know what else doesn't say much for Hankerson? Hankerson.

@BurgundyBlog @P_Hazard It would be a practice squad signing, guys. Not to the 53.

@Rich_TandlerCSN @BurgundyBlog I know. But arguably deepest position on roster gets deeper.

Rashad Ross really liked the #Redskins and left hoping he’d one day return. DJax really took him under his wing.

@P_Hazard @twitbeck3 people said Dallas 'reached' with the center they took. Looks good now.

It's homecoming weekend for the #Redskins. They've embarrassed themselves in the past in front of alumni. They need to do better on Sun.

Reviewed some of the game (against all rational sense). Will Compton is no slouch. Better than Riley in coverage, maybe overall upgrade.

@BurgundyBlog Old-school player. Has some savage in him.

#Redskins ranked 31 in 3rd down pct. #Titans are ranked 32. Should be fun.

If we're drafting top 5, we need to trade down. We can get difference makers all throughout the draft JJ Watt was the 11th pick. Patrick Willis was the 11th pick. Ahmad Brooks was a third rounder. We just need to target these guys.

@BurgundyBlog @MarkBullockNFL @KenClyburn And at same time, Compton spent more time on ps watching from afar, Robinson spent more with rehab

@BurgundyBlog @MarkBullockNFL @KenClyburn Certain players can pick up things, not necessarily taught

Mark Bullock ‏@MarkBullockNFL  2m

@P_Hazard @BurgundyBlog @KenClyburn Yeah, but I think some of the coaches have done something. Even likes of Baker, Kearse showing up well.

@KenClyburn @Rich_TandlerCSN @P_Hazard Just looking at Trent, didn't realise he's only 26. Personally, I'd keep him here til he's 32, easily

@MarkBullockNFL @KenClyburn @P_Hazard But he’ll be 28 when up for a deal. Would have to sign until 33-34.

@Rich_TandlerCSN @KenClyburn @P_Hazard Could they try and lock him up this coming offseason, avoid that problem?

@MarkBullockNFL @KenClyburn @P_Hazard Perhaps. You’re still wondering if Trent can play on one leg, as he is now, at age 30. Legit question.

@Rich_TandlerCSN @KenClyburn @P_Hazard Yeah, it's a fair point. I'd think he'd have the potential to slide to G, which could help prolong

@Rich_TandlerCSN @KenClyburn @P_Hazard But it's a legit concern, I take your point.

When I said sink in a hole I didn't mean they wont get paid.  Gruden will get paid too :)   Some people actually hope to have a career after leaving the Skins ;) It's not all about the money.  Some people want a legitimate head coaching job that they might have a chance to succeed in.

It's one season later, we couldn't fix their mess in just 1 offseason

Groundhog Day. We've been singing that tune for over ten years. Instead of fixing things, they made it worse.

Wasted 11 mil franchise tag (could have been used along o line)

So far none existent draft class, minus Breeland, who is on trial by fire

Keeping Haslett

just those three things alone, doomed this season.

It's one season later, we couldn't fix their mess in just 1 offseason, so while they are not 100% at fault today the roster still has some of their influence on it, both good and bad.

We were a mess when Shanahan was hired, I believe we need a deeper focus on what is truly dysfunctional with this organization if things are to change.

#Redskins are looking for an identity. Lose to the Titans, they'll be looking for disguises. My Times column http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/oct/14/six-games-in-jay-gruden-faces-harsh-redskins-reali/ …

I don't know how good our scouting dept is, but Bruce Allen has shown us over the last 4 years that he's interested in trading down in the draft and getting more picks. Maybe a better scouting dept would have known to value Watt over Kerrigan and Jenkins/Hankerson (i forget), but I wonder how much that was known at the time.

But I'm confident that we can get some talented players. Question is will they be difference makers, or developmental guys to contribute in 2-3 years?

and if the latter happens, will gruden still be around?  or will we again be getting a new coach where the players selected for gruden's system will not work with the new coach's system....  seems we can never get out of this vicious cycle....  and of course, on top of all that, there will be 0 FA's that will want to come to a losing team without it being all about the almighty dollar...   it's so damn frustrating.

Alfred Morris missed an easy catch out the backfield on the second drive of the first Q. Could have gained some yds. Has to do better.

@Manny_PPI Or (my vote) the need to go elsewhere with the ball.

That would be wise

On that same drive -- #Redskins called read option. Kirk gave it to Alf, of course. Would have been a big gain if QB kept the ball.....

Drive 1, 3rd and 3 - #Redskins had trips right and Cards sent blitz. Pressure in Kirk's face but J. Reed was wide open. Kirk has to read hot

He definitely could have completed that ball downfield to DJax, but w/pressure you have to read hot. Easy 1st down if it went to J. Reed.
