drowland
GHH, I think moss acted out the way he did this season because not because he's a brat, but because he probably knew this is his last season with the team. Plus, being inactive most of the first 6 or 7 games has to make him mad cause he wasn't hurt in any way. I'd be angry too. That's probably why he flipped off the fans for being mad at the team for being horrible. Probably not a good reason to flip off the fans, but I don't fault him for it in a bad season, just as I don't fault the fans for getting mad at the team. Now, I don't think its right to call miss a brat for his meltdown against the Giants 2 weeks ago. He was sticking up for his QB, whether right or wrong. Thats not brat-like at all. To me if Moss was mad about being inactive he should of asked for his release. I viewed it as a ceremonious roster spot being held for him which is still a problem with this FO. Good teams don't hold a roster spot for 35 yr old WR who doesn't play special teams anymore and is a healthy scratch every week. He was only playing on a vet min contract anyway so it's not like he would be walking away from millions. Then he could sign with another team with a need for a vet WR and get some playing time. Moss doesn't seem like he's ready to hang it up yet. He's not explosive as he was, but he's healthy and obviously has some fire left in him. SlinginSammy HOF '63
He's produced the best career numbers in the B&G since Clark/Sanders/Monk. That's 22 years since we've had anyone like him. I have a thread somewhere from the past that posts his career ranking on this team. *edit* here it is: http://es.redskins.com/topic/356698-santana-moss-redskins-career-500th-career-reception-in-the-bg-10712/?p=9151153
pjfootballer
Geez, some of you are never satisfied. Always got something negative to say about some players. Can't you just appreciate the good times players brought and just wish them well without coming off as a self righteous jerk? Who died and left you the paragon of virtue to judge people? Pack of jackals. Thanks Tana for a great career as a Redskin! See, it's not that hard to say something nice.

avfan12003
Surprised but then not surprised to see this bumped again being as Sunday surely is his last game here. (And if it's not then that tells you ALL you need to know about our FO's talent evaluation skills.). Since that OP was written, I've soured a lot on Moss this year. Getting into it with fans on the sideline and flipping them the bird (utterly despicable behavior from a so called 'professional' to the very LAST folk he should do that to) took away that modern day 'legend' status for me. Completely losing his discipline yet again a few weeks later in getting tossed for acting like a petulant little brat in NJ just nailed down the coffin. All after being one of the voices we've heard too much of coming out of the locker room. Hail. Why should players have to put up with crap from the people in the stands. Can one show up at your job and shout insults at you for hours and you should be take it?

Gibbs Hog Heaven
Why should players have to put up with crap from the people in the stands. Can one show up at your job and shout insults at you for hours and you should be take it? Do you pay money to support me in my job and are you emotionally invested in what I do and how my performance effects you? If you both do and are, and I am failing you, please, feel free to show up a week Tuesday upon my return to work and let me have it. If you don't and aren't, then this is a redundant conversation as there's ZERO comparison between the two jobs. Rightly or wrongly, criticism/ abuse comes with the territory of being a ball player. Even more so when you've contributed to such a pathetically disgraceful team as ours. If you'll readily accept the praise for the good things, which these guys are all over; then by the same token you need to accept the bad when it's MOIRE than justified on a 4-11 shambles. You get paid the big bucks and afforded the privilege of a position millions would give their right arm for with the expectation as regards this that you are professional enough and thick skinned enough to not respond like a pre-pubescent teenage girl who doesn't get her own way. NO defence for attacking those that keep you in riches and will be here LONG after (in many cases) you've forgotten all about the Redskins. Hail. DJD2
Thanks for the memories Santana. I doubt you are back next year but who knows with this FO. I think you played with heart and guts, and really, what more can a fan ask for? Godspeed.

So they are expected to be grown men, because they were blessed with the physical skills and talent to play a game at high level, but us grown ups in the stands who choose to cheer, and pay our money to see the game are given a pass for acting like pre-pubescent teenage girls who are disappointed? greenspandan
i honestly don't understand getting so upset over a finger. Supreme Wu
Do you pay money to support me in my job and are you emotionally invested in what I do and how my performance effects you? I don't want to take sides on when or if it's appropriate for an athlete to react to a fan, but the 'I pay your salary' argument is always a poor one. Anyone with a job, regardless if its at Macy's or at Applebees, or a great spot as an executive at Apple, is supported by everyone else in the economy. Screaming at an athlete (or cop or whatever) that 'I pay your salary!' is really ignorant, since they very likely also have at some point contributed to your salary. Nobody has a moral high ground to abuse or attack someone without expecting them to react.

Give me a break man. They play a game for millions of dollars. People invest emotionally and want to cheer and JEER. Part of the deal is you gotta take the insults. Yea, I can call you a bum. Don't like it? Get another job. i honestly don't understand getting so upset over a finger. TheItalianStallion
I won't comment on the finger incident (if it even happened, I've yet to see anyone substantiate it), but I have a hard time getting upset with him about losing his cool during the NYG game. I had never heard of that rule before, and I'm betting that most of the Giants' roster and fans in the stadium hadn't either, and were not expecting the refs to make the ruling that they did. Bang
100,000 people in the stands every week, I imagine ONE of them can piss him off enough to lose composure for a second. get over it. There's no reason at all why they are obligated to put up with anyone's abuse, and given how some people carry themselves at the game, I'd bet my dollar it was 100% warranted. JoeWolf990
Fans are losers for the most part. I will never understand how we have free reign to hurl abuse at players and then get shocked when they decide to go back at us. Its hypocritical and stupid but most fans are hypocritical and stupid. s0crates
The first sign that Gruden sucks was his decision not to dress Moss for so many games. It reminded me of Spurrier benching Darrell Green. I've nothing but love and respect for 'tana, and seeing him out there battling has been one of the few things I've enjoyed the past few weeks. He is the last of the Gibbs guys, those guys were all heart. Regarding his place in 'skins history, I think the numbers speak for themselves. Like Mrs. Decker tweeted, 'our life is great'. I'm sure.I would never condone personal slurs- family, race, religion... NEVER. I would promote face to face time. You suck, you guys blow, you're a has been, never was, etc, etc.... MAN UP AND WALK AWAY. I personally don't do to much negative jeers, I do support it. I'm pretty much a homer thick and thin. But because of that if I see lousy play, on occasion it actually feels good to decry these young men. Further, it is permissible. They are professionals akin to those of major corps, they are expected to act above gen pop, fair or not. If Santana flipped off fans, I would never recognize him. NEVER. (I always supported him and his play)
Frediemac
Santana Moss was a good player and every now and then a great player. He made a few great plays but never won anything with this team. He will be remembered for being a solid player on bum teams. nothing more
