Who are possible replacements for Cundiff? (My vote: Kai Forbath) Edit: Kai signs with team!

I don't know the numbers of an offenses scoring when starting from the 20 or between the 21 and 35 yardline. I can't imagine they are greater than us having a kicker with less than 75% field goal percentage. If he can't kick touchbacks, then just freaking squib a line drive right down the middle and get it to hit at the 15 yard line. Maybe it takes some good bounces and it causes the return man to bobble it a few times before picking it up. I can't imagine the ball would hit down the middle and roll 35 yards to a sideline.

Its probably more valuable than you think. I don't have any specific numbers off the top of my head, but pinning an offense back is very valuable. Certainly part of that is kickoff coverage teams. But a kicker who can consistently get touchbacks is pretty valuable. The new kickoff rules mitigate that value somewhat. And certainly no kicker is worth enough that they can suck on FGs and still be kept around (although sometimes you do have kickoff specialists).

The more interesting stat is that kickoff distance is pretty consistent from year to year. Meanwhile, fg % fluctuates a ton, even among the "elite" guys. So having a guy who's really good on kickoffs and at least decent on field goals pretty much puts you ahead of the game at the position.

If the Skins axe Cundiff by Sunday, they'll be on 19 kickers since 1994. NFL avg is about 8.5. No other team above 13

Damn and they already axed him lol

Yea, and one of those kickers for one game was David Akers. We could have had the whole decade wrapped up with 1 kicker.

However, on August 2, 2011, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a rookie free agent, and was subsequently placed on the reserve/non-football injury list. He was waived on April 16, 2012 by owner-general manager Jerry Jones after a brief stint as his eyeglass wiper.

Tampa Bay BuccaneersThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers claimed Forbath off waivers on April 17, 2012. It is rumored that the mere presence of Cobra Kai in the locker room intimidated "Captain Soulglow Mediocre" Josh Freeman.

The Washington Redskins signed the great Forbath and cut the embarrassing Cundiff on October 9, 2012. Forbath was forced to kick Cundiff through the uprights from 31 yards out in front of the team as his first official Redskin duty. After Forbath was signed, even Billy Cundiff's own mother was seen cheering vehemently. [4]
