I think John Wall is definately a top pick an untradable. Think about Rondo...imagine if Wall had KG, Pierce, and Ray Allen to work with, wow. Imagine if Wall had Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol, and Rudy Gay to work with. Imagine if John Wall had Kevin Durant to work with. While Wall needs to get better, so does the talent around him. We need a consistent go to guy, hopefully its Nene and Seraphin next year.

Yeah thats alot of the point i've been making in previous pages.

Give Rondo a lineup of Crawford, MKG, Booker, Nene and see how many assist he gets.

Wall needs guys that can knockdown shots off his dribble drive especially coming off screen&rolls.

---------- Post added June-2nd-2012 at 09:14 PM ----------

If the 2010 draft were held over again, would John Wall still be the top pick?

I think so. His body of work over two seasons is far and away better than anyone else's from that class.

But DeMarcus Cousins would certainly get some burn for first overall. And Cousins would certainly go second. Could be a similar dynamic with Andre Drummond in several years. Taken lower than he should have been, but ends up being better than several of the guys in front.

Anyway, this class lacks go to style scorers who were super productive in college.

Damian Lillard scored 26 PPG, but unfortunately for us he's really a PG and probably shouldn't receive heavy consideration even if we trade down.

After him, the only qualifying prospects who scored at least 17 PPG last year are Jeremy Lamb, Harrison Barnes, Thomas Robinson, and Jared Sullinger.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are only five NBA ready scorers in the entire class--Lillard, Lamb, Sullinger, Barnes, and Austin Rivers.

One thing I drew from that is that a PG's college stats are almost no indicator of what he'll be capable of in the NBA scoring wise. DWill and Derrick Rose are two of the best scoring PGs in the league and their stats look pedestrian. DWill's look crappy actually.

Another thing I drew is that the shooting splits for the shooting specialists don't change a whole lot from college to the NBA. Steph Curry and Ryan Anderson for example. FT shooting ability in college seems to be a good indicator of general shooting ability.

Rebounding seems to hold true for the bigs from their final year to their NBA career. If you're a 9 RPG guy in college like Aldridge, Bosh, etc., then that's probably what you'll be in the NBA. If you're a double digit rebounding monster in college, then you'll probably be that in the NBA (Love, Griffin, Cousins). There are a few exceptions though. Guys who play on loaded teams and one and done bigs tend to have much lower averages then they go on to have in the NBA if they're successful.

- Blake Griffin's final season in college is statistically amazing.

- Ditto for Durant's

But Michael Beasley's stat line is absolutely baffling. He's the owner of arguably the greatest one and done season in recent history. It absolutely blows Griffin's and Durant's out of the water. The guy was an amazing all around force in college. But his NBA career might have been utterly ruined in part by his position change and the situation he was drafted into.

To go from 12 RPG at KState as a freshman PF to 5.6 RPG as a combo forward. Dude is damaged goods I suppose. But he might also be a lot better than anyone realizes. I bet he draws almost no interest when he hits free agency and can be had for cheap. He could be a minimal risk/high reward signing if you have him play as a Bosh style perimeter power forward. Not sure he fits on our team since we'll have a lot of SF/PF types assuming we draft MKG or TRob. But I bet someone out there could make something of him.

Lamb will score from day 1. Lamb is much better then Rivers off the dribble, he can spot and shoot off screens and is probably a better shooter overall in my opinion.

Just read that Eric Gordon plans to test free agency. Imagine a lineupmof wall, gordon, mkg, seraphin, and Nene? There is no way this team wouldnt be in contention for a playoff spot next year.

NO will lock Gordon up or match any offer.

I'm sorry if this is a redundant question but what do you Wizard fans think of the Randy Whitman hiring?

Reinforces that Ted is taking the cheap way out.

I'm almost convinced that if Blatche isn't dealt, he'll be on the roster next season.

I've been thinking the exact same thing. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that they've hinted they want vets and they might need the cap space. If they don't need the space Blatche will be back IMO.

Well the Wittman situation isn't too bad since the players respect him, high salary players like Van Gundy, Flip, and Dantoni have had a great deal of difficulty having respect of the players. I know SVG had issues with respect everywhere he's been and the players didn't really respect Flip in Detroit that much either. Whats the point of bringing in a "star coach" if he can't handle his players?

Agreed. If the deal were for 1 year, I'd give Leonsis the benefit of the doubt. I'd assume that the guy he wants is not available yet. However, giving Randy a 2 year deal implies that Ted doesn't want to pay a top tier coach until he has top tier players. Kinda smart though.

He won't be getting top tier players with a loser like Wittman coaching this team.

Ted is the king of cashing in on opportunities. Wittman wins six games in a row against complete garbage and he gets a two year promotion.

Basically in his first five seasons John Wall will have been coached by two lame ducks. Wittman is going to be on the hot seat the moment season starts. He's a carry over from the Flip regime.

The clean up that was needed in upper management never happened. Same loser coaching staff, same loser GM.

Agreed.

In 2010 we should have cleaned house completely. #1 pick, new ownership, should have went out and hired a new GM who would go out and hire a new coach.

We're rebuilding when it comes to the roster but we're keeping retreads in the FO and coaching staff. Just doesn't make sense.

Best case scenario is we become a decent playoff team over the next couple of years but Wittman proves to be in over his head, and we can him and bring in someone who can win(kinda like Dallas with Ric Carlisle).

Everybody needs to calm down.

A. When the hell did Wes Unseld average 20 points per game? His career high was 16.2. He averaged 13.8 as a rookie. His career average was 10.8. Seriously' date=' who are you thinking of?

[/quote']

I didn't say he averaged 20 points per year his rookie season... I said he was MVP of the league his rookie season one of only two players to achieve that.... Thus Wes wasn't a project. He was a beast. Which refutes the guy who said nobody comes into the leage and dominates immediately, aka beast immediately... Wes, Karem, Bird, and Wilt all did this.

A. You can't extrapolate numbers from college to pros. The college game is 40 minutes with a 35-second shot clock. The pro game is 48 minutes with a 24 second shot clock. Pros get a lot more opportunities for blocks and rebounds

I think you can saftly say that davis has a lot of work to do before he is an elite center or power forward... He's got the athletism' date=' and he's got some polish, but the boy needs to get alot stronger.

.

B. You can't compare numbers from the 70s to today. In 1978, the average NBA team scored 110 points per game. In 2006-2007, it was 98.7 per game. I can't find last year's numbers (which I believe were slightly up but I know the numbers collapsed this year).

You absoltely can say that some great players come into the leage ready to contribute at an elite level. Just like you can say some don't. Davis is one who won't. It's not a knock on his long term potential. It's just a reflection on the fact that he is an 18 year old kid with 1 year of college and is more potential and project than finished package. Which was my point from the beginning.

C. You can't compare anyone to Kareem. Kareem was the perfect center. This is like looking at Steven Strasberg and comparing him to Cy Young or something. "Oh' date=' he's not as good as the single greatest offensive force in the history of basketball. Therefore, he stinks."[/quote']

Granted... but you can say, which I did say, Kareem came into the leage with everything... He like Wes contributed at an elite level from the very first. Which was the only point I was making. That won't be davis's track. Maybe it would have been if Davis stayed in college for 4 years like Kareme did. But that's not how the nba works today.

---------- Post added June-2nd-2012 at 11:32 PM ----------

I'm still trying to process this Unseld thing. I have extremely vague memories of 70s basketball. (Though' date=' apparently, my dad like to put my baby swing in front of NBA games. It apparently soothed me. On a related note, I like falling asleep to games broadcast by Marv Albert. I'm also almost 40). Wes was famous for rebounds, outlet passes, setting picks, and being awesome despite weighing 300 pounds and not being able to jump over a deck of cards.

Are you guys thinking of Elvin Hayes? I think you dudes might be thinking of Elvin Hayes.

Hayes averaged 28.4 as a rookie. That would have won the scoring title this year and last year.[/quote']

Wes was famous for several things. Defense, rebounding, bone-jarring picks and ability to ignite a fast break with his crisp, accurate outlet passes, Unseld made up for his lack of size (6’7”) with brute strength and sheer determination. Unseld took the Bullets franchise to four NBA Finals, and won the championship in 1978 over the Seattle SuperSonics, in which he was named the Finals MVP.

Wes was famous for being a tough guy. So tough he could play center in the NBA at 6'7" and dominate inside.. averaged 18.2 rebounds a game his rookie year and becoming the second player ever to win the League MVP his rookie year... He was a bad man...

NO will lock Gordon up or match any offer.

Doubt it. They've barely seen him play there. He's not cemented himself. And they're building a new era around Davis.

I like Eric Gordon, I've actually seen him play a bit, He's pretty nasty taking people off the dribble. He's a great free throw shooter and he gets to the line near an elite level.

In a lot of ways, I think Gordon's scoring ability is developing into an elite caliber. I could see him being a mid 24-25 PPG scorer eventually. He's a terrific shot creator with great instincts and a fearless mentality in traffic. He'd definitely give us a huge source of scoring. He can play the ISO game, he can generate offense in crunch time. He can run and play the transition game.

There are a couple of negatives to consider though.

-- Most obvious is the injury history. It's bad. But sometimes guys just have bad luck. But he's an undersized, physical player.

-- Like I said, he's undersized. His length isn't great for the type of player he is. But he's a thick, powerful player nevertheless. His legs are huge and he can generate a ton of power from his base. It makes him a better defensive player than he'd seem, and gives him a lot of ability to back guys down and bully his way to the rim at his height.

-- He's not as good a shooter as I thought he would be. He's a streaky and somewhat inefficient scorer that doesn't shoot the three ball at an elite level. I thought the spot up game would be one of his biggest strengths coming into the league. He's more Kobe/DWade than Steph Curry/Ray Allen.

--He's going to need the ball in his hands quite a bit to be his usual self on offense. Wall and Crawford are already pretty ball dominant, plus our bigs need some touches.

His career FG % is .452 and 3P % is .370. Not bad, but both are very average numbers for a top shooting guard. Still, his final season in LA was impressive as hell. 22 PPG on 17 attempts per game would be really, really nice to have.

I also think playing with Wall would help Gordon's efficiency numbers some. He'd be playing with a true pass first PG with near-elite passing ability. It'd make his looks a lot easier. Still, you are who you are.

Gordon is also only 23. I think a couple of healthy seasons could see his scoring numbers rocket upward because his scoring ability and skill level is so amazing. He needs to stay healthy and get on the right team.

All in all, I'd like to have Gordon. I think he stands to be a pretty large upgrade over Jordan Crawford. I like Jordan, but he's a poor man's Gordon IMO. The only thing he's really got over Gordon is consistent health, length, and well established team chemistry. All of those things are important of course. But if you sign Gordon and he stays healthy and gels with the team, you've got a better player.

I wouldn't pay more than ten million a year for Gordon though. He hasn't proved he can stay healthy enough to commit more than that. And with Les Boulez hanging over our heads at all times, I'd be nervous as hell about signing the dude at all.

If we did sign Gordon, I think we'd need to trade Crawford. Sign him and suddenly you've got an organically grown potential star one two punch. That means it could be a good time to pull out the stops to make a big deal. We've got a ton of trade assets. Try and deal for Dwight Howard. Or Chris Bosh maybe. I think Bosh could be had fairly easily for a package of tough bigs. If you can pull off a Dwight trade where he'd spend some time with us and Gordon stays healthy, I think he'd sign an extension here. Dwight would absolutely thrive playing with Wall. And Gordon could space the floor for them. We'd be much, much better than his recent Orlando teams. You could move back a bit and take a Harrison Barnes in the draft and field a very powerful team. MKG would also be a nice pick. Keep the third pick in any trade for Dwight, there's no assurance he'd sign an extension. Find unselfish shooters who don't need a ton of touches to fit in.

I think a Crawford + Nene + Seraphin + Singleton/Booker/Vesely and future draft picks is actually one of the most appealing deals Orlando could find. Their leverage is low. They have to make a deal before the deadline or he's walking for nothing. He's slightly damaged goods after last season.

Let's say we pay a pretty steep price and get Dwight for Crawford + Nene + Seraphin + Vesely/Booker and an minimally protected 2013 first. We've lost our bench and our three most appealing long term prospects plus Nene gives them a competent replacement for Dwight and makes the salaries work.

Then let's say we use someone like Drummond or MKG to move back from three and pick up Barnes and a late lotto pick like Portland. Use that pick on someone like Terrence Jones or John Henson. Maybe even Sully if we're extremely lucky.

Plus we'd have Shard's expiring deal as a big trade chip.

We could field a roster of,

PG: Wall, Mack

SG: Gordon, Martin

SF: Barnes, Singleton

PF: Booker or Vesely + Sully or T. Jones or Henson

C: Dwight

That's not just a contender for a playoff spot. That's a legit finals contender. We'd catapult ourselves from worst into the upper echelons of the conference. An extremely young big 3 with a roster filled out with quality role players and decent depth.

Obviously, the draft comes before any of that can happen. No Dwight deal is coming before the middle of the summer at the earliest and you'd have to wait for FA to sign Gordon--which feels like a key domino for that scenario to work. But man, if it could be pulled off, that would be a legit coup.

---------- Post added June-3rd-2012 at 09:38 AM ----------

Come to think of it, a TRob/Dwight front court could also be super potent. TRob's a true forward and Dwight is a true center and both give you some things the other one doesn't. Both are also amazing athletes and rebounders. TRob has the makings of a solid face up game for a PF with some potential to become a mid range option. Dwight is Dwight. That team could run.

If we draft TRob, I'd put everyone except him and Wall on the table to get Dwight. Holy crap we'd be good. Under those circumstances, we'd actually be a super attractive FA destination.

---------- Post added June-3rd-2012 at 09:39 AM ----------

OR draft TRob and try and make a deal for DeMarcus Cousins and you could have something special on your hands.

---------- Post added June-3rd-2012 at 09:59 AM ----------

Even crazier is a Nene/Dwight tandem. I don't see how you build a trade with Orlando for Dwight around anyone other than Nene with Wall off the table. But if you keep Nene in the deal and manage to keep the lotto pick, a Barnes/Nene/Dwight front court would probably be the best in the league.

Maybe you could start taking back a few of Orlando's crap contracts? Do that though and they'd need to take Blatche off our hands. Maybe something crazy like this: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6nnlcbe

or this: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7uwdnbq

They will do everything they can to keep him. They aren't just going to give up on signing someone who was the centerpiece of the Chris Paul trade just because he didn't play many games there. Aminu plus the 10th pick sounds like a great haul for CP3...

Yes they are building a new era around Davis, but this isn't football like they are quarterbacks or something. They are two different players and NO wants to build around both of them. Plus, they just offered him a contract extension but Gordon wants to test FA. He's restricted so NO will match.

Report: Wizards are 'big fans' of Thomas Robinson

SI.com reports that the Wizardsare developing a crush on Kansas forward Thomas Robinson with their third pick in this month's draft.

The Wizards might be tempted to reach for the poster boy of my "high-risk, high-reward" category, Connecticut big man Andre Drummond, and let him develop behind veteran center Nene. But the JaVale McGee experiment never paid off like they hoped in the three-plus years leading to his trade with Denver for Nene, so dont be surprised if they pass on him. Im told the Wizards are big fans of Robinson, who could make an immediate impact in the frontcourt.

You could tell the way Ted mentioned him in the articule I posted a few pages back. In reality this team does'nt have a true PF other then moving Seraphin or Nene there. Booker is a tweener but gets by with hustle. Vesely is a Sf I don't care what anybody on here says the guy can't rebound or defend the 4 spot and does'nt have the frame to add a bunch of strenght/weight without juice. What he does well is defend the perimeter especially the screen&roll game.

I think the TRob picks makes alot of sense even though I like Sully better. Our centers don't rebound and we don't have a true PF. Beal won't be a top 3 pick and would'nt be in any draft. MKG is just a horrible horrible fit with the cast EG as assembled. And me personally I think Jan and Singleton will develop into shutdown defenders at SF. Singleton was a monster defender in college and I think without training camp he struggled with the speed of the game with a full offseason I think our rookies are much improved.

I truly believe Davis and Gilchrist are going 1 and 2. So we will not have the option to draft MKG. I don't want Drummond, Ron Thompson said watching him this year at games the kid had no passion and looked lost on the floor, the last thign we need is Javeel the 2nd. Im not sure who is worthy of the third pick, I just know it's NOT Drummond or Barnes.

He's not lying, Drummond looked at times like the best player in basketball with his size and strength, but then other games just disappeared and didn't seem to care. He's basically the biggest risk reward pick I can remember the past 3 years or so because if he's able to work out like he can then he's gonna be a stud, if he continues to struggle then he's going to bust hard

Can the same not be said for the entire UConn team? I watched some of the games to see Lamb and Drummond and they looked like a hot mess.

Seems like there are multiple directions we can go with this pick that would make many, if not most, happy. So instead of that, here's my question:

Who at #3 would make you UNhappy?

PJ3

Barnes

Drummond

Anyone outside of MKG, Beal, or Trob would upset me

Or this
