btfoom
I just saw this article/video and thought it was really cool: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/soccer-dirty-tackle/terminally-ill-feyenoord-fan-given-overwhelming-tribute-club-195330313.html A 54-year-old terminally illFeyenoord fan known as "Rooie Marck" (Red Mark) knew he didn't have muchtime left. His last wish was to attend his beloved club's firsttraining session of the new season, held at Feyenoord's stadium, DeKuip. Arrangements were made so that Marck, his family and his friendscould watch the training session from right beside the pitch, but whatawaited Marck was more than he could've imagined. Weakened by his illness, Marckwas brought in on a stretcher and set up so he was facing all of thefans and ultras sitting at one end of the ground. While his friendsdrank, Marck smoked a cigarette and smiled as the fans lit flares enmasse. When the team came out to train, Marck stood up from his bed andapplauded them and when they jogged past him, they applauded right back. Then the focus turned to Marck himself. The other fans unveiled agiant banner depicting Marck and serenaded him with a rendition of"You'll Never Walk Alone." As Marck cried from this remarkable show ofaffection, his friends embraced him. <more at link>

Jumbo
Clip is from Morgan Freeman/Wormhole. It's fun (and useful) stuff on use of illusionist's "tricks" to examine various aspects of cognitive processing---and such does touch the tips of many icebergs floating in the sea of message boards. http://msnvideo.msn.com/?channelindex=4&from=en-us_msnhp#/video/f92622ec-64f6-4f71-82d9-f895680f82d7

twa
When the 57-year-old executive started his career in the 1970s, 600 feet was considered “deep water.” Shale was useless rock. Oil didn’t exist below the salt layer. “In the span of one person’s career -- just one person’s career -- two plays that couldn’t exist according to our professors and our mentors are now some of the biggest plays in the world,” he said. http://www.businessweek.com/news/2013-09-12/wildcatter-hunch-unlocks-1-dot-5-trillion-oil-offshore-u-dot-s-dot-energy Wildcatter Hunch Unlocks $1.5 Trillion in Offshore U.S. Oil

China
Haunting Photographs Of Animals Turned To Stone By A Deadly Lake Photographer Nick Brandt stumbled upon the calcified carcasses washed up along the shoreline of Lake Natron in Northern Tanzania. Lake Natron is a salt lake and has a pH level around 9.5 to 10 — extremely alkaline — that preserves the animals after their death. Brandt found the calcified animals around the lake and positioned them for the photographs. Click on the link for more
