The Tris
My question is how in the world are the Rangers allowed by MLB to keep taking on salary when they are in bankruptcy? Seems highly unusual.
royallypwned
My question is how in the world are the Rangers allowed by MLB to keep taking on salary when they are in bankruptcy? Seems highly unusual. We're not really taking on salary, because before making the deal, the other team agrees to pretty much pay all of the outgoing player's salary. While we're on the topic though, this whole situation might, just MIGHT, get solved by next week. There is an auction set for August 4th which could make things a lot more clear. edit: also, it's a running joke amongst us Rangers fans to cheer "Good game, MLB!" after wins. MattFancy
Houston Astros first baseman Lance Berkman has waived his no-trade clause and a deal is in place to move him to the New York Yankees, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney on Friday. The Berkman deal likely will be completed before Saturday's trade deadline. The Astros will pick up $4 million of the $7 million owed to Berkman this year and in his 2011 option, sources said. The Yankees will send two prospects to the Astros: reliever Mark Melancon and infielder Jimmy Paredes. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=5424350

StillUnknown
yankees didn't need more offense they still have a major weakness in middle relief. StillUnknown
Well you know they have to make a move to somehow save face over the Lee Embarrassment. it might be embarrassing, but in the long run its probably beneficial to their team they didn't get him. they'll be the favorites to sign him in the offseason, and they won't have to give up their most prized prospect (who most scouts say has Miguel Cabrera level offense in him)

Warhead36
If Mark Cuban buys the Rangers, then keeping Lee might become a possibility. I would love for Cuban to become an MLB owner, but MLB ownership is an old boys club and they probably fear Cuban's youthful enthusiasm and tendency to be rebellious, although it's something MLB drastically needs. Didn't they prevent him from buying the Cubs a few years ago?

Tim Kurkjian basically said the same thing on espn a couple of weeks ago. he said it was highly doubtful the other owners would let him in

royallypwned
Today is the 17 year anniversary of Nolan Ryan's massacre of Robin Ventura. Easily the most memorable game I've ever attended.
