  1. Haven’t posted on here in over a decade but man that was depressing. Really struggling for positives after a *win*. Guess there’s some young guys showing growth. But man the team is regressing week over week. They look worse not better. And there’s no easy answer. Top to bottom organization issues (same as it ever was). Sigh.
  2. For conservatives overreacting, I found view from the scotusblog this interesting:
  3. Considering that the individual mandate was struck down under the commerce clause, this ruling should specifically prevent goverment mandation of products such as your Nissan. Unless you actually think this opens the door for national product specific taxes, which is ridiculous. That might have been possible had this been ruled constitutional via the commerce clause, but not now. Roberts will probably add some very limiting language regarding commerce items for use in future decisions as a result of him upholding the mandate. Kinda a brilliant move.
  4. Do any of these sites not require flash? I will be traveling via car this afternoon and will only have access to an iPhone.
  5. http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/teams/usa2.php?article_id=27969 Announced. This is pretty awesome.
  6. i8cNHCP3juQ Don't want to spoil any of the appearances, but I have three votes for most random: Tonya Harding, Rednex, and Forest Gump's son WTF!
  7. Braves lose Prado, had to be helped off field after aggravating oblique strain. Might be the nail in the coffin. IF, and a big if, they make it, it'll be a 5 game series at best. Too young, too many injuries. But Freddi G's gonna have a great squad next season.
  8. No injury on the play, no history of dirty play...this is his one strike. A high five, low six figure fine is the most I would expect. Looks like they were pretty flat footed. If I was Delhomme, I would be more pissed at my teammates for not caring that I just got hip tossed by a rookie than anything else. EDIT: YUP, they didn't take a step towards Suh.
  9. Braves are 4-2 vs Padres this season. Beat Latos, Richard x2, and LeBlanc.
  10. The hint they gave was all the films featured in order of release date. Helped me out a lot. Nosferatu, Metropolis, Frankenstein, City Lights, Duck Soup, Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Singin’ in the Rain, Rebel without a Cause, Seven Year Itch, Spartacus, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Dr. No, Lawrence of Arabia, A Hard Day’s Night, Dr. Strangelove (or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb), The Sound of Music, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Planet of the Apes, Rosemary’s Baby, Easy Rider, A Clockwork Orange, Shaft, The Godfather, The Exorcist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Taxi Driver, Annie Hall, Saturday Night Fever, Star Wars, Superman, Alien, Apocalypse Now, Raging Bull, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Scarface, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Amadeus, Full Metal Jacket, Robocop, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, The Silence of the Lambs, Reservoir Dogs, Forrest Gump, The Professional, Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption, Braveheart, Scream, American History X, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Run Lola Run, The Big Lebowski, American Beauty, Fight Club, The Matrix, Gladiator, Memento, Amélie, Lord of the Rings, Kill Bill
  11. I thought this was awesome: 100 movie icons, simplified. Can you name them all?
  12. David OBrien is reporting that NONE of the top pitching prospects would be given up. This is a salary dump by the Cubs. Probably? Lee has hit .283 w/ 9 HRs, 30 RBIs & .492 slugging % in 47 gms since June 16, went 5-for-11 with 4 HRs in 3-gm series at St. Louis thru Sun. Glaus has hit .174 w/ 2 HRs, 15 RBI and .265 slugging % in past 46 gms, has .285 OBP in last 45 gms, 6 Ks in last 3 gms Braves have problems with power pitchers (Look at what second tier guys like Lilly and Billingsley did to us this weekend). With a health does of Doc, Hamels, Oswalt, as well as Josh Johnson coming down the stretch, the Braves need some more pop in the lineup. Can't expect the pitching staff to continue the sub-2.00 ERA they have had thus far this month for the rest of the season.
  13. Braves close to landing D.Lee. If nothing else, the defensive upgrade over Glaus with be staggering. Glaus can barely walk at this point. Hopefully Lee's back is sorted out. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5473305 NO way Glaus goes to 3rd. Wouldn't be surprised if he is released outright to be honest. But I doubt it.
  14. http://techcrunch.com/2010/08/11/elyse-porterfield/ Fake.
  15. My question is how in the world are the Rangers allowed by MLB to keep taking on salary when they are in bankruptcy? Seems highly unusual.
  16. Before Phillies fans start sucking each others popsicles, pertinent stats: In 7 reg-season starts vs. the Braves, Roy Oswalt is 0-3 w/ a 7.58 ERA & .354 opponents’ avg. It's his worst record & ERA against any team.
  17. As you alude, it really is a matter of how you measure success. To phrase the question another way, how would you rather the next 15 years of the Redskins (or your baseball team, etc.) to play out: 2 Titles, 2 of 15 playoff seasons, .480 W-L record over the span 1 Title, 11 of 15 playoff seasons, .580 W-L record over the span Aside: Imagine if the Marlins spent like the Braves...and actually retained their stars...
  18. Dominic Brown makes Werth expendable. FYI, "one of their best hitters" is hitting .227 this month with 5 extra base hits, no homers, and only 4 RBIs. He has a .636 OPS.
  19. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/beware-the-jays-sluggers/ I think this is one of those rare instances where chemistry was the driving factor of a trade. The stories coming out about just how disliked Yunel was are staggering, and those tales were prefectly capped off when Gonzalez got a standing ovation when he walked into his first team meeting. As far as skill goes, I don't expect more than 8-10 HRs out of Gonzalez the rest of the way, but I also don't expect to see noticable offensive or defensive dips from the level of Escobar. With no SS ready for the show in sight, it looks like we have AG for the next season and a half, with considerably less upside than Yunel. A win-now move where chemistry is the biggest factor...pretty unique.
  20. I think we're on the same page...Werth would be a 1/2 year rental, basically getting some power for a SP who would have been excess had Lee been added. There is no doubt Crawford is the play. I hope some other teams make a play for him as well, because as good as Gardner has been, Crawford is a whole other dimension of scary for the Yanks. I mean, for us non-Yankee fans, can't we go back to the Pavano-esque days?:pfft:
  21. I thought that was coming in 12? Anyway, I know they are going to run at him, which is scary putting speed back in that lineup. But Werth would have been a fix for this seasons (minor) weaknesses, just as Lee would also have potentially put them over the top. As it is, standing pat is the best long term play, and the hope is that they are good enough as is to repeat. Which I don't disagree with, though I do think they might be better off with another bat today.
  22. DH, you are right, he was always theirs. Whether this year or next. But they could have added him this year and flipped Vasquez to the Phils for Werth to add to some wood to the OF. We'll see if it costs them in the short term, but today was definately a win for the Yanks in the longterm.
  23. http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/poolboy55/193328/ Yikes.
  24. I believe that Nolan Ryan through +200 in the 70s, and before pitch counts +150 was not uncommon.
