Tastes Like Chicken
This site sucks. If it were'nt for the mods blowing their own horns, it'd die!!HAHAHAHAHHHA Just kidding -- I've met a number of the mods: Pez & Huly (those guys are COOL), Big Sexy, and my fav. mod: TLC. Honorary Hog is the coolest website guru I know -- thanks for making ES what it is! Holy ****, they made me a MOD?!?! **** yeah!! :dj: Now where's my signing bonus and stock options? :paranoid: But seriously... Great work on this research MTH, and what a cool story. Kudos to the folks who built this ****er from the ground up. :applause:
Die Hard
Did one of you founders ever work at MCI/WorldCom?Back in the day (probably 2002ish), I went to a Wizards game and sat in the MCI/WorldCom box at MCI Center. Conversations turned to the Redskins, and a blonde haired kid who was in the box with us said he started a site called extremeskins.com. Ring a bell anyone? No. There's a picture of the group of 7 of us in the history thread.... none of us were young or blonde
SWFLSkins
Great write up MTH. Thanks to all those who contributed hours upon hours to build and maintain this site. And yes I remember those TSN days, it was like the OK corral, but with verbage. Edited January 31, 2010 by SWFLSkins
thoffman01
Its the same because he stole the script from ES. He doesn't answer e-mails because he's no longer maintaining that site. No updates since 04 should tell you that. Could be interesting to know when his domain is up though & then watch & see what happens to the site. Yea...it expires really soon expires: 2010-02-03 02:45:
TK
http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=8749 Redskins.com Adds Fan Forum, Chats August 10, 2005 Team Acquires Extremeskins.com,web's most popular Redskins fan site The Washington Redskins today announced a strategic alliance with Extremeskins.com, the Internet's most popular and populated team-specific Redskins fan site, resulting in the fans' closest possible connection with the team. The addition of message boards and fan chats with team players, coaches and officials adds another powerful element to Redskins.com's ever-expanding slate of video team reports, audio and video press conference coverage, news articles and team features. As a result of the partnership, the Extremeskins.com owners and their corps of moderators will become the exclusive Redskins.com message board and chat site under the banner Extremeskins at Redskins.com. Interactive chats are tentatively scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 6, with Owner Daniel M. Snyder, followed by a chat with Head Coach Joe Gibbs on Thursday, Sept. 8. Players will be added to the mix the next week, beginning with quarterback Patrick Ramsey on Monday, Sept. 12. The message board is scheduled to launch soon. "As we began our re-design of Redskins.com early this year, we wanted to incorporate the message boards and chats so popular with fans," said Larry Michael, Redskins senior vice president. "As we examined existing sites, we quickly discovered Extremeskins. With its 35,000 members and the years of experience accumulated by the operators, we quickly wondered whether we could incorporate it, rather than build our own." Founded in 2000 by Tony DiMarco and currently owned by DiMarco, Eric Leichter and Mark Steven, Extremeskins.com's popularity with fans is in large part due to the dedication of its moderators, as well as the distinct personality they bring to the site. The alliance with Redskins.com allows the owners, all of whom have other full-time jobs, to concentrate on the dream they had when founding the site: Provide the best fan experience possible, with the most up-to-date information possible about the Washington Redskins. Extremeskins at Redskins.com will live within the team site, and the team will assume all technical responsibilities, with the moderators continuing their existing roles. Representatives of Extremeskins at Redskins.com will join the team at all games, providing an exclusive fan view from the pressbox and sidelines. Extremeskins will also have the ability to attend all practices and team activities. "We have no interest in changing or reining in the moderators," Michael said. "They are what made the site so popular. They are what attracted us to the site in the first place." The team expects to begin integrating the Extremeskins.com content and membership within the next week, with Extremeskins at Redskins.com to begin seamless operation from its new address shortly thereafter. Fans may register to participate in team message boards and chats as soon as the integration is complete. Existing Extremeskins.com members will be automatically registered at the Extremeskins at Redskins.com address.
Mark The Homer
Nice find, TK. Re "Founded in 2000 by Tony DiMarco and currently owned by DiMarco, Eric Leichter and Mark Steven,..." I knew about this, but I've been waiting for more details from Om. He promised me he'd send something, but it's been almost a week... I will link this article into the OP somewhere.... Edit: The link seems to be dead. That sucks. I'll link to your post instead. MarkB452
That was really cool to read. You forgot to mention that the merger ended the largely heralded Daily Babe thread. ...but we do have the cheerleader pics mega thread....
Mark The Homer
That was really cool to read. You forgot to mention that the merger ended the largely heralded Daily Babe thread. Good point. I don't think it was the merger that ended it though. I believe it was the mods that ended it because it was a PITA to moderate. And at the time the mods were probably more likely to want to "err on the side of caution" since we were officially a Redskins site. TK would know for sure. Die Hard
...but we do have the cheerleader pics mega thread.... Amazing that people haven't clued in. Some members can difficult. No matters how many times it was stated to keep it clean..... no matter how explicit the directions were for the limitations of the photos.... it would go without fail that some member would test the limits and post topless women, see-through clothing (top and bottom), g-strings, etc. We all know there's porn on the internet and we know how to find it. It should have been obvious to anyone with a single brain cell what was appropriate and what wasn't. Apparently, some members are too dense. Moderating is a volunteer service.... and in a perfect situation.... there would be minimal effort required with the hopes that the community would police itself. But when you give a toy bb gun to a child... and you tell them to shoot ONLY specific targets and yet they continually shoot their peers in the face... eventually you decide to simply take the bb gun away rather than waste your time driving kids to the ER every day. Not any more complicated than that.
fansince62
Some of my favorite all time debates in here were between you and Art, '62. Art does have a style that is...to say the least...a unique signature!!!! sometimes brilliant most times combative. OM shined like a brilliant diamond as well (without all the spears!). you were no shirker yourself GSF!!! fansince62
One of the more interesting things to watch over the span of only a couple of years, was the growth of the Tailgate,(known for a brief time as The Bleachers if memory serves). Both in its popularity as well as the subject matter. Though one does tend to lead to the other. There was a time when you could visit the Tailgate and see subjects on the first page that had been there for months. Probably just a result of the growth of ES in general, but it was interesting to see. hmmm...different opinion here on Tailgate and the drive for "informed" debate
Jumbo
What DH says has applied to every similar "babe" thread that has come along in its place, as well as most all "joke-pic" threads, threads about edgy song lyrics (or a current one---names for bands), and especially unsonny's historic "own3d" thread which has been the source of hundreds of hours modding, numerous bans, several shut-downs, and countless warnings. Jumbo
hmmm...different opinion here on Tailgate and the drive for "informed" debate You raise a good point here, Al. As someone who uses observation to a practiced degree as a skill for almost four decades in two professions and has delved deeply into ES since my lurking days, I often note that for any well-informed and veteran viewpoint on any ES matter, there are countering viewpoints from equally well-informed and veteran sources. Thats what makes facts, facts and opinions, opinions, eh? I often find the truth is as diverse yet equally real as the images captured by and reflected from the surface of a spinning multi-facted mirrored disco-ball hanging over a large, heavily populated, and active dance floor, surrounded by flashing lights of myriad colors, located at varying vantage points, and changing with the music. Someday, to your great horror, I may explain that in even more detail. :evilg: Edited February 1, 2010 by Jumbo

GSF
Art does have a style that is...to say the least...a unique signature!!!! sometimes brilliant most times combative.OM shined like a brilliant diamond as well (without all the spears!). you were no shirker yourself GSF!!! Thank you for the kind words sir! Back in those days, when 2 of the "heavies" were engaged in vigorous debate, I would be afraid to chime in b/c I didn't want to look stupid. I don't want to sound like I'm putting current members down, b/c there still are some really smart guys in here, but the sheer volume has completely changed the feel of the place, and many of the most impressive posters from the golden days really don't post much anymore, if at all. Oh and btw, as good as Art was, he had an unfair advantage. If he sensed he was starting to lose a debate he would just threaten to ban his opponent! LOL. PCS
hmmm...different opinion here on Tailgate and the drive for "informed" debate Nah. As "informed" debates go,Tailgate and Stadium are pretty much the same. Just different topics. With similar,if not identical attitudes found within those debates,(among other things). It just took awhile for things to click I think. Place was still pretty small and it was just as easy,(and a good way to at least assure oneself of at least a view),to simply slap an O.T. at the beginning of the thread title. I do believe certain circumstances,(9/11 and Afghanistan for starters), at the time helped get things going as well as members starting some good "O.T." topics. Like it or not,one certain member at the time was bound to draw attention to any thread he started or posted in. Few good debates about Religion helped and of course,a "Test" thread would get some attention from time to time. As the board grew,so did the Tailgate,(duh). BigRedskinDaddy
MTH, just when I think you couldn't possibly outdo yourself...you raise the bar just a little higher. Excellent, excellent info, a well-written piece, and EXACTLY the sort of thing I've been pining for since I joined here post-merger. Thanks, brother. Nice to know this place is in very capable, caring hands. Should be required reading for all new members, but even were it so, most would probably pay about as much attention to it as they do to the forum rules they are instructed to read and abide by. Well done sir. Edited February 1, 2010 by BigRedskinDaddy
