MissU28
When I lived in VA, I pronounced it poin-set-uh. Whenever I take the Coaster (train) downtown, we pass a part of Carlsbad called Carlsbad Poinsettia, and it is pronounced Poin-set-tee-a. This morning I was talking to some coworkers, and they both pronounce it Poin-set-tee-a. I had never heard it pronounced like that until I got to California. How do you pronounce it? Dictionary.com says that it's pronounced both ways.
MissU28
ps I still refuse to call it a poin-set-tee-a if I'm talking about the flower. I'll acknowledge it as the name of the part of Carlsbad, but the flower's still a poin-set-uh to me.

MissU28
just asked my boyfriend- he said the exact thing I did....that he's called it poin-set-uh all his life (he's from Connecticut), until he came out here and they called it poin-set-tee-a on the train. California's mad lame, son.

Mickalino
Maybe we should ask the guy who discovered the plant in Mexico, and who it's named after, Mr Poinsett. Oh wait, he died 158 years ago.
