Da'uud
To each their own but for best current drummer - Chris Adler (doesn't start until :35 seconds in) Fill at 2:24 FTW
Fan since a Fetus
If we are going metal, then Derek Roddy will kick Adler's you know what. However, my favorite drummers are ones that keep unique and steady beats. So, I prefer the Gavin Harrison's and Sean Kinney's of the world. Of course the great Neil Peart should be included. There are a million Adler's and Roddy's, however, very few Harrison's and Peart's.

Mufumonk
+1 +2 The first name that comes to my mind is Danny Carey from Tool.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVbFrl9wLBA +1 The part you posted is actually fairly easy compared to the rest of the song. Here are a few more vids: Danny Carey & Kirk Covington jam out on a stripped down kit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_QQPnpkuzw Ending of Parabola: Spiraling out: Reflection: I'll also add Tomas Haake to the mix........ Blackest Eyes
Martin Lopez was a kick ass drummer too when he was drumming for Opeth. It isn't very often you hear his style of drumming in a metal band. He was a straight up monster on the kit and a nice guy too.

Old Dominion Monarch 06
Trust me, I know all about Chris Pennie. I would've picked a different video if I were showcasing his talents, because that's definitely one of the weaker things he's done. In my opinion. All of the other songs on that EP are a much better example of what he's capable of doing. Hell and Calculating Infinity and Under the Running Board for that matter. All of which are far more impressive than that cover of Aphex Twin.
edgun88
Its Carter Beauford. There really isn't any question about it. He is the best in the world.

I may be up all night. Haha. But what's the name of the first tune in the link you posted. That breakdown sounds very familiar.

Peart is hardly peaking at the moment, he's definitely aged well, however. To your point, Billy is one of the greatest drummers ever.

Old Dominion Monarch 06
STB: the original lineup of Maha was the best. Go get "The Inner Mounting Flame" and "Birds of Fire" there's also "The Lost Trident Sessions" also recorded with that lineup, yet never finished, but wasn't released until 1999. For an incomplete work it's amazing. But both of the aforementioned records are just mind blowing.
Baculus
I'm sure there are some great ones in the past but as of right now, active, I gotta go with Carter Beauford. DMB drummer. Absolutely amazing. I find it remarkable that he learned to lead the hi-hat and crash with his left hand on a right handed kit. That is astonishing. It allows for so much more. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/412353/drum_solos_carter_beauford_under_the_table_and_drumming_pt_1/ I can only dream of one day being as good as he is. so who do you think is the best? Baculus
I have been playing drums for two decades, and I think Brann Dailor is the one of the best drummers around. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kcErNWtw1o&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fuser%2FBaculus&feature=player_embedded

I have never been able to get into jazz or jazz fusion or any other kind of jazz. Just not my cup of tea.
zoony
My favorite drummer is Stewart Copeland. Best drummer alive today though is Carter Beauford, and it's not even up for debate. Strongest pocket of all time = Jeff Porcaro
