Bands That Are Secretly The Same Band

Not literally. But they might as well be.

- Cutting Crew and Journey have some songs that sound eerily similar in instrumental tone and arrangement. Maybe Cutting Crew was actually a few Journey guys in disguise, trying to follow up on "Who's Crying Now" with "Died In Your Arms Tonight."

- The Gin Blossoms and Toad The Wet Sprocket are quite obviously the same band, just trying to sound a bit different when they put on their various disguises. Their twin-quasar fail is so epic that they respectively ended up #1 and #2 on Evolvor's Top Forgotten Rock Bands of the 90s list. But should the order of #1 and #2 be switched? The obvious correct answer is who cares.

Your turn.

Idk the names of them, but all those dumb punk bands that have the guy who can't sing as their singer all sound the same.

And all the screamo bands where all they do is just scream and you can't make out what the hell they're saying.

All of these new pop rock/pop punk/indie rock bands. There are a dozen or so bands consistently labeled as at least one of the above that are essentially interchangeable. Motion City Soundtrack, The Academy Is..., Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Armor for Sleep etc.

Blue Oyster Cult went into their first record company audition under their old name, Soft White Underbelly.

They bombed, and went back a few days later as BOC and got the contract.

Nowadays, they will occasionally turn up in a club as Soft White Underbelly.

the Rolling Stones will also turn up in small clubs occasionally, using the name of Keith Richards old band the Barbarians.
